Busting through a plateau!!!

I feel so accomplished! I completed a 90 minute upper body workout with 2 of our female YMCA wellness coaches ( who happen to be my colleagues and friends)on Friday. Several things happened:

I Actually stepped foot in a weight room with someone who knew what they were doing! ( I have been teaching/taking aerobics for 23 years, but only recently began weight training this year with Cathe) I have always had a dread factor of not knowing what to do on "those machines" and NOW I KNOW!!

I pushed myself to exhaustion with every muscle! I need that accountability factor I guess, and found it in a workout partner.

I achieved instant onset of muscle soreness, yet as each hour went by, I gradually became less sore, except in my forearms.

I did weight assisted pull ups that felt AWESOME on my back! I have trouble acheiving this exhaustion on my lats with free weights alone. Strongly recommend these in the gym!!

I Am ready for more!!! I cannot wait to see what limits I can break in the next workout! I will be joining them in their lower body
rotation on Tuesday.

Just thought I'd share a big accomplishment. I love working out with Cathe, but sometimes do things a little "safe" (not completing all reps, for ex.) I just needed someone to push me past my plateau and now I know what I am capable of! Don't be afraid to jump out there and push yourself! Working out effectively in the gym, I feel like I've done one of those checkoffs for life! Ha ha. I know it will make me more effective when I work out with Cathe at home, knowing its okay for your muscle to SHAKE at exhaustion, and getting there is not so scary now.

Fabulous! I have been tempted by the local gym lately. There are just some muscles I don't feel challenged by Cathe enough. I think I have to wait till my youngest child is just a little bit older. She's six, but I see it in the distance!

Heather,

Cathe's workouts are definitely challenging, I just found the gym an added challenge. I know it is hard to find the time and $$$ for the gym, and I am lucky in that I work at the Y. If you need to be pushed a litte, maybe find a fitness partner in your neighborhood and "spot each other" during your tough weight workouts. It makes a huge difference knowing someone's got your "back" when you need to push yourself.

Janet, you buff girl -- Way to go!!!! What a gift to have those friends/coaches/inspiring colleagues and that great gym right there at work!

Let us know how the LB workout goes.

I'm really curious, by the way, about the fact that you had instant onset soreness but no DOMS -- I've never had that happen before. Wonder what that's all about? (I would MUCH prefer soreness YOUR WAY! :))

I am curious about that too. It has never happened to me either. But I had never worked my upper body so hard before. It was really bizarre. I was really warm in my chest, biceps and back and as the day went on, it faded! It was like it washed away. I was left with this soreness in forearms. So this has never happened to you either? Maybe you could come and work out at the Y with me one day, when I get more educated on the equipment! We could get you a days pass to come visit! I just sent you a personal email, so let me hear from you!
