Bumping?

Hi all

I'm new to the Cathe forum and sometimes read that someone is bumping. What does this mean? Does it move the message up to a new date so that it is at the top of the list? If so, how do you do this? I am assuming someone would do this to get more responses from the people in the fourm?
Just wondering......Thanks

Angie

Bumping moves the thread back to the top in the hopes folks will see it, read it, and possibly answer it.

I would not encourage anyone to bump.

Some forums have a 'no-bump' policy because it is considered a bit rude (or impatient?). Some people are VERY impatient to have their questions answered and 'bump' after only a day, not realizing that we are in different time zones, and that whether they bump or not,, if someone hasn't seen their message, it will show up on their computer as 'unread' in any case.

I would much rather see someone move a thread back up by posting a comment or a follow-up question rather than just 'bumping'. If everyone started doing this, we'd have a whole like a threads that have post after post of messages just saying 'bump.' (Kind of like people keeping moving their hand on top of a pile of hands on a baseball bat).

You've got it :)

Personally, I see nothing wrong with bumping after a day or so. Sometimes a post falls to the bottom of the list quickly and wihtout much attention and we are all here for some good advice.

Just to further clarify about the definition of bumping (which it took me years to figure out lol), the thread at the top of the list is the one that has had the most recent reply. So if nobody has responded to a thread it gradually moves down the list and can get lost. Then sometimes the original poster or someone else will just post a reply that says "bumping", not adding anything to the thread but just to make it move to the top again (hoping that someone else will respond with some information or whatever).
