building upper body

Cathe,
I've made you my personal trainer from FIT t.v. I'm 5'6" and 125 lbs. I'm small framed in my upper half, shoulder and arms. I was wondering what I can do to build up the muscles. Should I take a protein powder? I'm doing your power hour three days a week right now and that's all. Should I do more weight training than that if I want to build up?

I am not Cathe, and hopefully you will not mind my 2 cents...if it were me, I would do Cathes' Gym Style series. If you don't want the lower body work, then you can just buy the 2 upper body Gym Styles. They are a lot of fun!

Another idea...Pyramid Upper Body. Now, that one includes Pyramid Lower Body on the same DVD.

Just an idea...hope you do not mind my feedback!

Good Luck!

Hi Sarah,
Thank you so much for the reply, of course I don't mind your feedback. I can tell from your picture that you know what you are talking about. I've never seen Cathe's gym styles, but I do have her pyramid upper and lower body on tivo. I do need lower body work as well so I will use both of those. Thank you again for responding.

Sarah,
It's Dawn from Michigan again. I forgot to ask you if you take a protein powder when you workout. Is it necessary? Does it help build?

Hi Dawn,
I'm not Cathe, but I am also 5'6" and 125 lbs. and I have to agree with Sarah. I had a smaller upper frame and I have been doing Cathes strength rotation with the Gym Style workouts and I have seen great results. My lower body tends to bulk muscle fairly easy so I have added running 2 times per week into my routine to keep them on the leaner side, but as far as the Gym Style workouts go ... they are a MUST:)

Gym Styles are a good way to go. You need to move away from endurance based work, which the PUB does feature, and move towards strength work with heavier weights. Gym Styles will send you on your way, but Slow & Heavy will really take you there. I am a skinny minny in the upper body department and nothing has built muscle there like this series, better than the GS even.

Really, you should get both.
