Slim Series Review
Happy Monday, ladies! I had a nice weekend. DH and I went out for our anniversary (which is actually tomorrow), and I went to the outlet mall with my mom yesterday, which was SO beautiful! (the day, not the mall!) Today my SIL and I took DS to the zoo. It is my stretch day. One more Tear It Up! tomorrow and I'm done with my Slim Series rotation! Here is my (almost) final analysis, sorry if it gets a little long-winded. I like to type
The Bad News: 1) The workouts can be tedious and boring, and the music is awful! Most of the time I just listened to the radio or had the music off. This is really saying something, because usually I scarcely notice the music in workouts. 2) Most of the cardio comes from lifting the light weights at a fast pace. I've always found the effect uncomfortable, and that burning in the muscles while also being out-of-breath to be just about torturous. 3) The workouts are lengthy, between 58-78 minutes each. 4) The production quality of the videos seems not-so-good. Sometimes you can hear the filming crew in the background, and the background exercisers sometimes have bad form. 5) The workouts are all sort of similar, so it really does feel like you're doing the same thing for an entire month.
The Good News: 1) Debbie is a warm, encouraging instructor who laughs when things start to hurt really bad. 2) I see definition where I've never seen it before, particularly in my legs and shoulders, and I have much better muscle endurance overall. I began doing the series with even lighter weights than Debbie, but by the end I could use the same as her for most workouts. 3) Typical female "problem areas" are hit really hard - like the hips, thighs, and butt. She also concentrates a lot on the shoulders/rear delts. 4) I lost somewhere between 5 and 7 pounds and one pants size. This is actually less than I hoped, but when I really consider how many "cheat" days I've had in the past month, that's pretty incredible. 5) There are a couple workouts (Shape! and Tone!) that I could see including in my week even when I'm not doing a full rotation.
Overall: I will
definitely do a rotation again! I still have 15-20 pounds to lose, and I think this will help me get there. I do need a break, though, because I'm pretty sick of the workouts
It's sort of opened up a whole new world to me in terms of strength training and what my body responds to. As I type this, I'm previewing Tonique videos I just acquired on the Video Fitness forum (Ugh... I think she's done about 100 full sit-ups). I'm also interested in Tracy Anderson, who I used to roll my eyes at only weeks ago. I'll still definitely do heavier weight-training as well, since I think variety is really the key to getting what I want.
Okay, I'll stop now! Sorry that got so long!
Heartymax: Way to push it! I'm right there with you this week...
Sue: I've lost the same FORTY pounds several times, so... yeah... I hear ya
Hello Laurie!
I hope everyone has a good week. We leave for Missouri on Thursday.
