Buff Badgers Week of August 22nd

heartymax

Cathlete
Got in Muscle Max this morning and did my own version of abs. Not fond of those hip lifts and pikes or whatever you call them. I had a great weekend. Kids enjoyed spending some time with their cousins out in the country area of Virginia. So much space to run, play ball. It was nice to see them have so much fun as we enjoy every moment before they return to school in one week. My next class starts tonight so Mondays will be long for the next 8 weeks.

Yesterday did the 1/2 marathon. Ran with my DH who doesn't run. It took 2 1/2 hours. My hip hurts now, so off to the chiro. Today will be some kind of weights. Minneapolis marathon is a really pretty course along the Missisippi, through parks and the like and very flat for the most part. Great first 1/2 for people I would think. DS13 team won all three games of soccer on Sat. and the Varsity won on Fri. night. DD8 starts soccer tonight. Packing with DD19. Only one week and she is off to college.

Heartymax, glad you and your kids had such a good time. It is always nice to get one last hurrah in before school starts again.

Enjoy your day.

Good morning! Friday was a mixed bag: the first half of Kari Anderson Bench Works (a VHS I picked up at Goodwill), 10 Minute Solution Pilates (Netflix streamed), and after a trip to Half Price Books, Shiva Rea Radiant Heart Yoga. The last one felt great, but I caught myself rolling my eyes at the visualization/meditation stuff a few times. :p

Saturday was no workout, but a long walk with DS. Yesterday was Jari Love Slim and Lean and a couple walks. I'm not sure if I'll get a workout in today. I had a bad night of sleep last night and I'm going to be at school during my normal workout time. We'll see how I feel after dinner.

Heartymax- I have a lot of trouble with the jack knife moves at the end of Muscle Max. They hurt my hips to balance like that. I usually modify or do something else. Glad you had some fun with the kids over the weekend.

Karen- Sounds like a beautiful run. I used to really like Minneapolis when I was in college. We'd visit on the weekends sometimes. It's such an interesting city. Good luck getting DD packed up for college. It's a hectic time.

I've got one last home visit this afternoon, and some other work to do at school. Just a little over a week before things get really crazy. I've also got to fit in a faculty meeting, two get togethers with friends, a vet appointment, and a hair cut. Should be a fun week :D

Have a great day everyone!

Morning Ladies,

I got in Ripped in 30 Week 2, and 30 Day Shred Level 1 on Saturday. Sunday was a rest day, and I'm planning on 30DS L1 and Yoga Meltdown for after work. Not sure if I will do Level 1 or 2 of the Meltdown. :D

heartymax, Nice to have a last hurrah before school starts. Sounds like your kids had a good time.

Karen, Congrats all around your family. WTG on the 1/2 marathon, just take care of that hip. ;) Are you trying to encourage all of us to try that half? Really does sound like a very pretty course.

Sam, Really busy week for you, but I'm sure that you will get it all done. That is one reason I have avoided Shiva Rea's yoga. I'm not sure how much of that stuff I can take.

Have a great day!

Karen - Congratulations on doing the half! :) Hope the hip feels better after the Chiro visit.

Heartymax - At least you get your long day out of the way on Monday right away instead of dreading it all week long. I've never been to Virginia but hear it's beautiful. Actually, strike that. I was at Arlington Cemetery when we went to DC so I saw a little bit of VA.

Sam - Sounds like a busy week ahead for you. Hope you get to enjoy it a little bit before the craziness begins. I know what you mean about rolling your eyes when those yoga instructors talk.

Laurie - I have to work up my courage to do Ripped in 30. ;) Are you doing a Jillian rotation?

Did nothing on Thursday and Friday (workout-wise anyway). Saturday morning I got up and weighed myself. Not surprisingly I gained 6 pounds. :( Some of that is water weight for sure but yeah, the concentrating on the eating thing didn't work so well for me. I honestly need to do both - exercise and watching what I eat - in order to succeed at weight loss. Without one, the other seems to go completely awry. So I gave myself a pep talk and did Tabata Inferno. I'm giving up S90 for now. As much as I like the S90 workouts, I want to do other stuff. I didn't want to feel like Tabata beat me or that I was scared of it, so I did it one last time. Did a couple other short segments from Exercise TV Saturday night. (Biggest Loser Bootcamp 10 min. and a 25 min. circuit with light weights with Chris Freytag)

Yesterday I did KCM Split Sessions Upper and Lower. This was the first time with this workout. I liked the upper body but not sure how I feel about the lower body workout . Haven't tried the bonus floor work yet. This morning I did Stretchmax with the band. If my legs aren't sore tonight I'd like to do some yoga or walking.

HI ladies! I had a great time over the weekend. I really needed the break and thankfully have only about a 1 pound gain due to too much good stuff!:D I recieved many, many comments on my figure and some have seen my pics on FB so they knew I was doing P90X. I loved seeing my old, dear friends. My body enjoyed the break ,though I did walk 6 miles yesteday, 3 with my friend and 3 with my dog!

Today I over-slept  so I will be mowing the lawn and doing some core work after I get home.

Karen, awesome job on the half! My friend from HS is running a marathon in Colorado in October and she just started training. Yikes! I am thinking of maybe a half next Summer... Congrats to your kids!

Sue, don't fret too much over the weight gain. It'll come off as quickly as it came on. Just try to be consistent with wither the exercise or the diet.

Laurie, I looked at Ripped in 30 at Walmart yesterday, but did not get it... I wish she would come out with another Banish Fat workout!

Heartymax, I am not a fan of the spikes on the ball either! I think if you have longer legs it's harder (my opinion!) Glad the kids enjoyed their time with family!

Sam, busy lady you are! Hope Elliot is healing well!

See you all tomorrow! Susan

HI! Sounds like everyone had a great weekend! Today was my first official 1/2 day back at work...we have to put in 2 full days this week.

This a.m. was a 4.5 mile run. It was about 58 degrees and felt great!

Karen, Congrats on the 1/2...you had really good weather.

Susan, sounds like a wonderful reunion!

Sue, you know what works for you and I´m sure you´re right that most of it is water weight!

Laurie, is the Renn Faire over? You deserve a rest day!

Sam, sounds like you have a busy week, but you´re still able to get in those workouts!

Heartymax, sounds like a nice weekend. Hope that hurricane doesn´t reach VA.

This morning was 40 minutes of Cardio Fusion which is up to the Drill Max segment. Then I did 10 minute solution pilates abs. My class has more work than the summer class, but I still don't think it is too bad. We have a few group assignments and I partnered up with some people from my last class since we felt like we knew each other already. We have already divided up the tasks and things should go well.

Sue---you hung in there with S90 and did very well. We are all supporting each other with making better food choices in the midst of all these kick butt workouts. Some weeks are just better than others.

Susan-bet you enjoyed all those wonderful compliments. Glad you enjoyed the catching up with some old friends.

Karen---good luck in getting DD off to college.

Lala--hope you have a great school year. Teachers come back today and we have new student orientation in a few more days. Lot of more work to do to get ready for the students to return next week.

Sam---a long walk counts as a workout:D Gearing up for the school year is always stressful, long hours and so much to do. This is the time that I sometimes skip a few workouts because I get so busy. Last year, I managed to hang in there with my routine when so I hope to stay focused the next few weeks and continue to get my workout in.

Laurie---while doing the pilates abs this morning....I said to myself that I wish I had Jillian shred workout had a chapter segment so I could just do the abs. I don't want to make any more purchases right now though.. The pilates just didn't do it for me.

HI There! Today was a 3.75 mile run, then walk Ruby for 30mn then some core work!

Lala, I am liking the cooler morning temps myself! :D

Heartymax, I have not tried the 10mn Solutions ab workouts for Pilates. I too wish Jillian would Chapter her dvds more, but then she'd probably raise her price too!

Have a great day ladies!

Susan

Morning Ladies,

No workouts for me yesterday, just wasn't feeling the love. ;) I did have a wonderful gift when I got home last night though. Oldest DD was in a cleaning frenzy, and walked into a house that was spotless. :) This morning was my first time trying out the week 3 Ripped in 30, and this is probably my favorite so far. :D Killer on the legs though. ;) I followed that up with Level 1 of 30 Day Shred.

Sue, I'm finishing up the next two weeks with Jillian. I'm doing 5-6 days of Ripped in 30, and trying for at least 6 days of Shred. The first week of Ripped is on par with Level 2 and 3 of Shred, just so you know. Give one of the weeks a shot, and follow it up with something low impact like boxing or something like that. I just love how Jillian makes my stomach disapear. ;) (Not totally of course, but working on it.) WTG on giving yourself a pep talk, we all need to do that on and off. ;) You did really well with the S90 rotation, sometimes you just have to do something else when the workouts are just not doing the motivational thing. ;)

Susan, Wonderful that you had such a great weekend, and I'm sure that you will get that pound off in a couple of days with your clean eating. ;) Jillian is on a short workout kick right now. I think the next workout she is coming out with in Dec is Extreme Shred, so it makes me wonder if that is going to be the 3-2-1 method also.

Lala, Dang the dreaded "S" work! :D We have two weekends left of the faire, and I have to say that I'm ready for it to be over with. It has been a long hot summer, but these last two Sundays have been a blessing.

heartymax, Jillian's Six Week 6-Pack is all abs, and really very good. The first workout is a lot of floor work, but the second workout is all standing. That one is very good. ;) I agree with you though, I do wish there was a way to skip.

Have a super day everyone!

Lala - Yep, you're right. I know what works. Just wish it was a little easier. ;)

Heartymax - Thanks for the support. My bad days seem to outnumber the good days lately but that's just how it goes sometimes.

Laurie - Thanks for the encouragement and the warning about Ripped in 30. I don't know when I'll get to it but it'll be soon. Send your DD over to my house! LOL My kids seem to have blinders on when it comes to seeing things around the house that need to be picked up. Is that Jillian's 6 Pack Abs workout that makes your stomach disappear?

Susan - Normally I'd say I'm loving the coolor weather, too, but today I'm wearing sandals and short sleeves in an overly air-conditioned office so I'm freezing! Great job with your running.

Does "S" start for everyone's kids next week? Mine start on September 1 although DS has a Freshman Only Day on 8/30. He's kind of mad he gets cheated out of 1 more day of sleeping in.

Went out to lunch with a former co-worker today so didn't get to checkin earlier. Found 3 dvds at the library last night: KCM Muscle Definition, the original Turbo Jam set with 5 workouts (I don't have any of these) and 10 Min. Solutions Pilates on the Ball (which I rented before). I did (3) 10 min. segments from Pilates on the Ball last night. This morning I went for a 1 mile walk. Tonight I'm thinking of doing Turbo Jam. My eating has been good. I started using So Delicious vanilla flavored coconut milk with my cereal in the morning but now the kids have decided they like it and are drinking it, too. Of course it's more expensive than regular milk so it's good and bad that they're drinking it. They started selling fresh fruit at work (bananas, apples and oranges) for 50 cents. Yesterday I had an orange and it was delicious - juicy and no seeds. They still have the popcorn though. I told HR the popcorn should be 50 cents and the fruit should be 25 cents if they really want us to be healthy. :D

I was preparing to sit down for a late lunch at work yesterday when suddenly the building started shaking and we were wondering what was going on. Everyone evacuated quickly. Who knew Maryland would have an earthquake. Thank God I grabbed my cell phone before going out because my son immediately called. No one was hurt but everyone who grew up in a "no earthquake" zone were shaken up. The first day teachers are back and we have to close school early. With that said, I had two glasses of wine with dinner and I know my nerves alone must have worked off some calories:rolleyes:

This morning was Power Hour with push ups mixed in throughout the workout.

Gotta run ladies cause I want to get to work a little early to catch up on some things I didn't get a chance to finish yesterday.

Morning Ladies,

Today is Ripped in 30 Week 3 and 30 Day Shred Level 1.

Sue, My dd starts on Sept. 1st, but that is the day that is only for Freshman. ;) She is ok with having to be there one day earlier, because it is so much better not having those upper classmen in the way when you are trying to find your classes. My oldest said that she would walk around the school with her on Thursday when we have registration. ;) I have noticed my gut and love handle area shrinking from doing the RI30/30DS combo. I have heard that the So Delicious brand is very good, guess that is confirmation.

heartymax, Dang on the earth moving! Apparently some people felt the aftershocks around this area, but I didn't feel anything. Glad that you where able to calm your nerves with a couple glasses of vino. That would be my cure all also. ;)

Have a wonderful day!

Good morning. Monday was no workout, yesterday I did the combos only premix from Low Max. I like that premix when I want something low-key and steady state. I wasn't in the mood for anything resembling a "blast" yesterday.

Sue- I'll just chime in with everyone else and say don't worry about the weight gain. I'm sure it's mostly water. Don't feel bad about not sticking with S90 all the way through, either. You have to do workouts you feel like doing. You're right, the fruit SHOULD be cheaper than the popcorn. :D I have that Turbo Jam set. I like the workouts, but I've memorized everything Chalene says so I haven't done one of them in awhile. Let me know how KCM Muscle Definition is, I've been curious about that one.

Heartymax- I'd say an unexpected earthquake definitely calls for two glasses of wine with dinner! I'm glad everyone is okay.

Laurie- I can't wait till my kid can clean! What a wonderful surprise. It sounds like those Jillian workouts are really working for you.

Susan- I'm sure it was great to get all those compliments over the weekend.

Hello Lala and Karen!

My MIL is supposed to come over for awhile to take DS to the park/wading pool. I hope she does, because I can fit in my workout then and get a little cleaning (or relaxing) done during his nap. Not sure yet what workout I'll do. I was thinking of doing another Jari, but my biceps are still hurting from her last one on Sunday! My fault for starting out too heavy. Haircut this evening and drinks with a friend even later. I have a faculty meeting in the morning, so I can't stay out too late :) Have a great day everyone.

Good morning! I'm on early today :) Heartymax, I didn't know you live in Maryland. My DS lives in VA Beach and he said he didn't feel anything, but his friends did, I guess...go figure. They are now concerned about Irene :( and yesterday we had a tornado only 15 miles from us :(

Yesterday I did Supersets. Today was nothing, think a rest day!

I starte on thyroid meds for "subclinical" hypo. Don't some of you take meds for thyroid? This so far (after 2+ weeks) seems to give me stomach aches and I'm actually MORE tired. Do any of you have side effects?

Sam, I know the "no blast" feeling ;)

Laurie, It should be nice for DD to be in the building one day before everyone else. Our students all come back the 1st. BTW, gorgeous foto of DD!

Hi Susan, Sue, and Karen! Have a great day!

Good Morning,

Yesterday I did spinning Tabata workout with Mindy Mylrea and Quick Fix Rx for lower body. Today I did Hi Reps and a mile run with the dog. Power sculpt by KCM was on Mon. along with element yoga for flexibility.

Lala, sorry you are feeling tired. I love the music in Supersets. Just did that one a week ago or so.

Sam, sounds like a fun day for your DS. Hope it all happens so you can get your workout in and some relaxing, notice I didn't say cleaning.

Laurie, I really like what Jillian's workouts do for my mid section too. I did Ripped in 30 level 3 the other day.

Heartymax, nice job on getting Power hour done. Tough workout. Glad you are all ok.

Sue, KCM muscle definition is one of my favorite workouts of hers. Alot of people don't like it but I find it very effective and fun. Jillian's workouts are short and sweet and pack a lot into a short amount of time with good results.

Susan, glad you had a good time at your reunion. Cooler temps are awesome.

Enjoy your day.

Hello there! Today I decided to do STS Total Body. That's a good workout! My shoulders were crying, like they always do when I do a Cathe workout!

Heartymax, I too would have had the wine!

Sue, both my kids go back on the 1st. They are not too excited about it. Our library has not had a lot of good workouts dvd's latlely...

Lala, I am on Levothyroxin for my thyroid (112 mcgs) I have had no side effects and have been on it for 3 years.

Sam, I hope your MIL came over so you had some time to workout, etc..

I have a Sunday School teachers meeting right after work and then of course there is always house work.. Hope to get to bed early to get a good run in the morning!

Take care~ Susan

Morning Ladies,

Ripped in 30 Week 3 and 30 Day Shred Level 2 for me. Those two workouts have some of the same exercises in them. Still love those walk out push ups in 30DS. Probably the only form of push-ups that I like.

Sam, Did your MIL come over for the wading pool? Sure was a nice day out for that type of thing. My MIL sent us a Anniversary card in the mail, and inside was a note that they are probably in Myrtle Beach as I'm reading the card. I have the MIL that is a martyr! She claims that she didn't want to bother us by calling to let us know. Of course it would be so much better to get a phone call from some hospital in SC to say something happened to one of them. Sorry for the rant! ;)

Lala, Sorry to hear that the tornado was so dang close. We had that one that passed over us last year. That was not fun at all. Now that you mentioned the hurricane, I'm hoping that my in-laws get out of SC soon.

Karen, That Week 3 of RI30 is interesting in that she does a lot of exercises with just body weight. When I was reading reviews, they said that the exercises where different. I found that I have done these same exercises in Insanity and S90. Guess those reviewers just hadn't seen those type of exercises before. ;)

Susan, We have registration tonight, so this is another night of running around for me also. ;) Glad you could get a great workout with Hi Reps.

Have a wonderful day!

Good Morning,

We leave today to take DD19 to Maranatha. Will try to get a workout in later before we leave, some cardio probably.

Laurie, do you like the level 3 better than the others? I haven't done any other ones of hers.

Sounds like you are all running around like crazy. Take it easy and I'll check back in on Mon. I hope I can make it through without to many tears.

Have a great day.

Heartymax - OMG! I've never felt an earthquake but that'd sure "rattle" me (pun intended) for the rest of the day. Did the wine settle your nerves?

Laurie - Freshman Only Day for us is August 30 with everyone else starting Sept. 1 so tell DD she is lucky she gets a couple more days off. :) I think the So Delicious milk is an acquired taste. The texture is a little grainy and it tastes even more watery than regular skim milk. I was shocked my kids liked it.

Sam - I did KCM Muscle Definition Workout #1 this morning and I liked it. Not much leg work though and she doesn't do chest work until the very end which is odd. I'll try #2 this weekend. Some of those intervals in Low Max give me a "blast" to my heart-rate. ;) Thanks for the reminder. I need cardio and more lower body work so I think I'll do LM tomorrow.

Lala - I'm on thyroid meds and haven't noticed any side effects. As I recall, the Dr. started me out on a very low dose and kept increasing it until we found a dosage that worked. When do you see your Dr. again?

Karen -That's surprising that some people don't like KCM Muscle Definition but not really. She does some different exercises and some people may prefer traditional ones or feel they're not very effective. Have a safe trip to Maranatha. That's in Watertown, right?

Yesterday I did Turbo Jam 20 min. workout, Ab Jam and 1 mile walk. This morning was KCM Muscle Definition Workout #1 41 min. Great workout as always from Kelly.

I'm so nervous for DS today! It's his first high school football game this afternoon. Leaving work early to catch the game. Hope he plays well. The coach made him one of the captains this week because he listened, did everything he was told to do and knew the rules the best. Can you feel this proud mama beaming with a big smile? :D He has an ingrown toenail that I had to take him to the doctor for yesterday. She cut it out and put him on antibiotics to take care of the infection. Hopefully no one steps on his toe today. DH said he should put a big bandage on his thumb so if they do, they'll think he's grimacing because of the thumb - not the toe - so they won't target his toes. Football players can be mean - especially when the referee isn't looking.
