Buff Badgers week of Aug. 29th

heartymax

Cathlete
Today was STS total body. I think I will confirm to myself that I don't like it as much as High Reps. It's a good workout----but you know what I mean.

The weather was pretty bad this weekend with the affects of the hurricane. We got plenty of rain and wind. There are power outages so no first day of school today. Bummer for many as I know my kids and several others were really looking forward to going back to school today.

Last night, my family went out to dinner for my 43rd birthday. It is nice to be in good health and be able to have the strength and energy to work out with Cathe.

Heartymax- Happy birthday! It's good that you got to celebrate with your family despite Irene. What a bummer for the kids that the first day of school got canceled. I hope you and yours are managing okay and don't have any power outages yourself.

I'm checking in a bit early today because DS is still sleeping! We went to my parents' for dinner last night and he developed a fever while we were there. I'm hoping it ends up just being a cold and not an ear infection.

Friday I did Jari's Ripped and Chiseled for the first time. I really liked it. She does section of squats, one of lunges, and one of dead lifts, and that's pretty much it for lower body work. That's okay with me since I don't care for lower body work much, and I still feel it in my glutes today, so it must have been effective. Saturday was no workout. I finished up my classroom instead. Sunday I did the first half of Imax2. After that I went out with some girlfriends from college and consumed waaaaay too many calories

If I get a chance to work out today, I'll do Jari's Get Extremely Ripped 10000 (pause to  at the title), which I just ordered also. I previewed it, and it looks really tough.

I start school tomorrow, so this is my last day of summer :( I have a physical therapy appointment later to evaluate and treat some nagging lower back pain I have. I'm really looking forward to it. I feel fairly certain that some good stretches/exercises should keep it at bay, I just need a little professional help :D

Have a great day everyone!

Good Morning,

Today I did Peak 10 cardio strength 2. Tough workout. I ran 5.5 miles on Sat. and that was about it minus a bike ride with DD and a few walks with the dog.

Sam, hope DS is feeling better this morning. Are you liking Jari workouts? Let me know how you like the 1000 workout. I have it but have never done it I end up with lower back pain when I do her workouts. Go figure. Hope you can get some relief from the PT you get today.

Heartymax, Happy late birthday. Nice you could celebrate it being healthy. Glad you are ok despite the hurricane. I don't like all the equip. in STS total body, that's why I do Hi Reps more often and my triceps could use all the work they can get.

DS17 has a torn muscle that caused hematoma in his thigh so he is out of soccer for the season and will have to start PT in a few weeks. I feel bad it happened in his senior year and starting on varsity.:( DD19 is at college and seems to be happy there. If I think about it to long I still tear up. Hard letting her go and realizing next year I have to let what I believe will be the hardest one go.

Have a great day.

Afternoon Ladies,

Got No More Trouble Zones done on Saturday, rest day Sunday and today Ripped in 30 Week 1 along with Yoga Meltdown level 1 also.

heartymax, Belated Happy Birthday! Bummer on the first day of school, and of course the wind and rain. ;) Glad that it is only power outages.

Sam, Hope your DS gets better quickly. Hay fever season for me, but have only been having watery eyes so far. ;) Hope you are able to get relief for the lower back.

Karen, Sorry to hear about your DS. That has to be very hard for him to have to sit out. We are taking dd to college on Wednesday. I don't think it will be to difficult for me, have had to let her go already this summer.

Have a wonderful day!

Hi gang! Saturday was 5.5 mile run and ab work. Sunday was a 60mn hike with Ruby on the nature trail. Today is my off day. I like making Mondays my rest day!

Heartymax, so glad you are okay!:) Hope you had a wonderful Birthday! We're the same age! ;)

Sam, hope DS is feeling better. Allergies are really affecting my DS this Summer. Enjoy your last day of Summer vacation!:D

Karen, so sorry to hear about your DS! That's just not fair...I hope you DD enjoys her time at College.

Laurie, Is this a 1 month Jillian rotation you're doing?

Hope you all have a restful night~ Susan

Hi everyone! This weekend I ran in a 10K and finally got under a 10 min mile!:D today was STS total body...great minds, heartymax! I think I agree that I do like high reps better, but I really like using the disc/paper plate for legs

Karen, too bad for DS, that has to be tough :(

Susan, sounds like a nice weekend

Laurie, those sound like good workouts. Enjoy your time with DD!

Today was the step and Hiit Lo premix from High Intensity. Got up early to make sure everyone is back in routine as we venture off for the first day of school. The boys and I are pretty excited.

We never lost our power during the storm so we were quite fortunate. I was happy to have the day off for my birthday and my class was canceled because it is held at one of the local schools. I was feeling pretty bummed out about having to work all day---especially being the first day of school---- and go to class that evening on my birthday ----so it all worked out.

Sam---I am usually only good for 1/2 of the Imax 2 also. Those Imaxes are very tough. Hope you and your students have a great first day of school.

Karen---Sorry about your son.....what awful timing.....not that anytime is a good time...but you know what I mean.

Laurie----I love the title....no more trouble zones....I can think of a few zones that I won't no more trouble in:rolleyes:

Susan--- you have been doing an awesome job on your running. You jumped right in like a pro!

lala---congrats on your time!

Good Morning,

Today is our Tue. night bike ride. Of course it is suppose to rain.

Lala, congrats on getting your time down to under 10min mile, quite an accomplishment.:D

Heartymax, nice that the storm worked to your advantage so you could be home and celebrate on your birthday.

Susan, you had a nice day to walk on some trails on Sun. Allergies are getting bad for me again too. How many miles are you planning on getting up to?

Laurie, Is DD going close to home for college? Did you order the new lower body workout by Jillian?

Hi Sam and Sue.

Have a wonderful day.

Morning Ladies,

This morning Ripped in 30 Week 2 and 6 Week Six Pack Level 2 was the workout of choice.

Susan, Mondays are really nice days for a rest day. ;) I have decided to take Jillian as far as I can. I'm going to do her workouts until I'm not feeling the need anymore. I have started to do things a little different by adding in her other workouts so that I don't get bored.

Lala, Congrats on getting under 10 min. mile! :D You are doing awsome on your running.

heartymax, Glad you had a good day! Even though Jillian uses light weights in that no more trouble zone, it sure does hurt in places that you didn't know exsisted.

Karen, Hope the rain doesn't spoil the bike ride. ;) Yes I have Jillian's new workout on pre-order. I'm hoping to incorporate that one into my rotation also. DD is only about 45 min. away from us, so not to bad.

Have a great day!

Heartymax - Happy Belated Birthday! :) I'm glad you were able to go out to celebrate with all the power outages going on in your area. You're right - good health is a blessing.

Sam - Hope you enjoyed your last day of summer vacation and DS feels better soon. I'm curious what exercises your PT gives you for your low back. I hurt my low back a couple of times doing S90 until I modified one of the moves. If found that non-twisting corework (so no working the oblliques) helped. Wonder if my instincts were right.

Karen - That sounds like a nasty injury your DS17 has. Poor kid. It must be hard sending your kids away to college. I know I'll have a hard time in 2 years when my oldest goes away.

Laurie - I hope your oldest has a great time at my alma mater! Well, not too great. ;) She has to get some studying done, too.

Susan - Wanted to tell you how funny it was when you posted about Ruby putting her head down when she gets weighed on the scale! LOL I can picture it in my head.

Lala - Congrats on getting under a 10 min. mile. I jogged/walked this morning for the first time all summer and I only did 13 min. miles.

Sorry I didn't checkin yesterday. I only take 30 min. lunches so I can leave earlier so some days I just don't have enough time because I like to read the news, too.

Did Lowmax Intervals 1-4 premix on Friday. On Saturday I went rummaging with my sisters and out for lunch so no workout. On Sunday I did 3 Leslie miles from 5 Fat Burning Miles. Monday morning was workout #2 from KCM Muscle Definition. I liked workout #1 better than this one so now I'm not sure if I'll get this one or not. This morning I did a 3 mile walk/jog.

DS has Freshman Only Day today where they get to know the school a little bit and basically goof around all day. Tonight we have Open House so DH and I will each take a kid and walk thru their schedule and meet teachers. This is the first time both kids have been in the same school in 5 years.

Hi there! Today was a 4.5 mile run, then walked Ruby for 30mn I hope to do some ab work later but I have DS's open house at his new school so we'll see!

Sue, I wish our HS did that for the new freshman. That would be a little nicer for them I think!

Laurie, are you seeing any results from Jillian?

Karen, I hope it doesn't rain on your ride tonight! As for running, I don't know I would like to run a "decent" half marathon...:)

Lala, congrats on the 10k!! I have been looking for some fun-runs in our area but am not having a lot of luck!

Hope you all have a good night!

susan

Good afternoon, everybody. I need a nap. I never sleep well before the first day of school, but last night I only got three hours. Everything went well; there was nothing to worry about. I think fourth grade is going to be right up my alley.

The PT told me what I suspected: I have weak abs :( Turns out my upper back/scapular region is pretty weak, too. So, I have to do scapular retractions on my tummy without weights (with various arm positions), and I'm supposed to skip crunches and just work on planks, planks, planks for abs. The goal she gave me was to be able to hold both front and side planks for two minutes each. (Yuck! I hate planks!) She said that by the time I work up to that, she can almost guarantee I won't have any lower back pain. I think she's probably right. I was also how amazed how much I felt my muscles engage while doing her version of scapular retractions. I think I haven't been focusing on activating the correct muscles during back work, letting my arms pick up the slack instead. I actually have really mild DOMS between my shoulder blades today. Go figure

My MIL was here yesterday to watch DS while I was at the PT, and then wanted to get dinner with us. So... no workout yesterday, and I strongly suspect I won't be getting one today, either. Back on the horse tomorrow, though. I've been missing it.

DS is just fine. Not sure what the fever was about... kids get weird stuff sometimes...

Karen- I'll let you know how GER 1000 is as soon as I manage to do it. :) I do like Jari. Not sure why, but something about her workouts make me feel great afterward.

Heartymax- I'm glad to hear you weren't affected too badly by the storm.

Sue- Freshmen only day is such a good idea. My high school implemented that shortly after I left. I would have been much less scared if we had had it. Oh well.

Lala- Congrats on the sub-10 minute mile! That's great!

Hello Laurie and Susan! Have a great day, everyone.

Sam---two minute planks....OUCH!!! Maybe I can work on doing that with you. I bet with some pretty good clean eating we would have some strong abs if we can do it.

Susan---I think i would be too tired to walk my dog if I ran for 4.5 miles first

Sue--hope Freshman only day went well. Low Max is a cardio leg burner!!

Laurie---I'll take a 6 pack in 6 weeks. :D:

This morning was High Reps. I love the warrior lunges ---did I just say that???

The first day of school went well. I was tired by the end of the day and topped it off by having to come home to fill out all those papers that the kids bring home on the first day of school.

Hi

Last nights bike ride was fun 38 miles. After we ate at the place where we meet to ride with all the bikers. One of them brought cupcakes for my birthdy and the group sang to me. DD made me the cutest card, I couldn'[t help but smile. The two older boys were off at a soccer game in Eau Claire.

heartymax, I like the warrior lunges also. I really like all the paper plate exercises Cathe does. Glad the first day of school went well, hopefully you are rested up to do it again today.

Sam glad you are in a grade you will enjoy. Sounds like you got some answers and good ideas to help your back pain go away. I am going to try 2 min. of planks too. Glad DS is feeling better. Where did you go out to eat? Sorry your workout plans were spoiled though.

Susan, you are just amazing at the amount of exercise you can do in a day. It didn't rain last night until we were done riding. I would also like to run a 1/2 at a decent pace. I would have to actually train and not run with my DH though unless he trained too and he already trains for the Birkie and Mt. Bike Cheq. 40...and the list goes on.

Sue, Sounds like you had a nice weekend. Did you find anything good at the rummages. What don't you like about that KCM workout? Three mile job, nice! Cool that the kids are in the same school. Our HS has the first day for freshmen too. DS went last year and I like the idea, now they have implemented it in the elementary schools. Can't quite figure out why yet but I have to find somewhere for DD the second day as she only goes the first and some other kids in her school go the second. Not even any open houses for the elementary unless you go before or after school the first day. No need then, they have been in school all day. Done with my rant.

Laurie, I have Jillian's new workout, just need to do it. I ordered from Mary. I was going to ask the same question as Sue to if you have seen any results.

I have to into work today and then stay for the preschool open house. We start tomorrow. I don't want summer to be over yet.

Have a great day.

Karen - I found a nice leather purse for $1! I also found a pink Firm lower body VHS for 50 cents. KCM's MD Workout #2 just seemed not as effective as #1. I didn't like some of the exercises either. The one that really sticks in my mind is the 1 arm row with your elbow out wide. I think Cathe does these in STS, too, but not as many and at a slower pace.

Sam - I hate planks. . . but they are effective (darn it!). Jillian Michaels does a lot of supermans and planks in her workouts so maybe you want to try doing more of her stuff and see if it helps your abs and upper back. I can't do 2 minute planks either. That's a LONG time!

Heartymax - Freshman Only Day went very well. DS was in a fun group. His only complaint was that they ran out of pizza at lunch so he could only have 2 slices. We did the same workout this morning. ;) Except, I only did a premix so no warrior lunges. Don't think my legs could have taken that today.

After reading about all of you doing High Reps I decided to pull it out this morning and did the Upper Body Only premix. Threw in a few dumbbell rows at the end since back isn't included is this premix. Arms feel like Jello now. DD and DS had fun at their Open House last night. This is going to be a tough year for both of them because they're taking hard classes and they want to signup for every activity/club under the sun. If they keep up the discipline throughout the year, both of them can do well. Fingers crossed. Tomorrow is the first day of school and DS has a football game. Let the craziness begin!

I'm posting quickly while I wait for DS to settle down and sleep. I'm also drinking a little coffee so that once he quiets down I can (really! finally!) do GER 1000.

I've been eating badly. The no sugar thing is tough when kids bring in treats. How can you turn down a nine-year-old with a birthday cupcake??? I've got to figure out a way to be tactful, or to take the treat and use incredible willpower to save it and give it away later or toss it.

Heartymax- I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who thinks a 2 minute plank sounds miserable. But, yes... nice strong abs would definitely be worth it. I hope you got some rest after your tiring first day.

Karen- How sweet of your DH! Happy birthday to you! We went to eat at Chipotle, where I got a vegetarian bowl instead of a burrito. I can't say I missed the tortilla at all. Still, I asked for guac and got waaay more than I anticipated. But did I scrape it off? Of course not...

Sue- Hmmm... sounds like I'm going to pass on that particular KCM workout. I don't care for awkward weight moves. I do remember that Jillian's workouts have a lot of plank work in them. I think that's why I don't like them very much. :p Maybe I should invest in her six week six pack video, though.

Well, DS is quiet, I'm feeling perked up from my coffee, and GER 1000 is a full hour, so I better get to it.

Hello to Susan, Lala, and Laurie.

Have a great day, everybody!

Sounds like a busy back-to-school week for everyone. We have students starting tomorrow and all this week I´ve been at the school working. I still get nervous!!

Yesterday I did a run and today a premix of STS total..the one rep one.

Karen, glad you had a good bike ride...and Happy Birthday!!

Sam, 2 minute planks!! I like planks all right, I know they are some of the best core exercises, but 2 minutes:eek::eek:

Susan, you have been doing great on the running!

Sue, I like high reps and that premix, but yea, it bugs me that there is no back. I think it was a mistake and they just tell us to add it or something silly.

Heartymax, Happy belated birthday to you, too!

Hello! Sorry I did not manage to post yesterday. I did KPC in the morning. Today I got on the elliptical for 45mn for a brutal "random" workout.. My booty is sore!:p

Well, I got the kids off to school without much fuss. DS did not want to wake up! Can't say as I blame him. I have been getting them up early for the past week though to make the transition a little easier...

Karen- Happy Birthday! That was very nice that you got to have a little celebration!

I hope all of you that work in the school system have a great first day back! I know the students will love you!:D

Gotta go run a few errands before work! Have a great day! Susan

Morning Ladies,

Was busy getting oldest off to college yesterday, so didn't have time to post. Got in Banish Fat Boost Metabolism, 20 push-ups and 30 sit-ups yesterday. This morning was No More Trouble Zones.

Sue, I was impressed with how efficient they are at the college. They had drop-off points and guys that helped us haul all the stuff up to the 3rd floor. I noticed that other dorms didn't have that service. Must have been just for students in the bigger dorms. ;) Her floor is mixed with guys and girls, so this should be interesting. Hope your kids have fun on their first day. My youngest just hopped on the bus this morning.

Sam, Oh yes Jillian would help a bunch in the abs department. She does plank moves a lot! :D I love her 6w6p workout! Glad to hear that your ds is better, those fevers are strange. I had the feeling that sometimes they had them when they had a growth spurt! That is the only thing I could think of.

heartymax, Got to love paperwork! Glad that first day was a good one.

Susan, I have been seeing some improvements in my lower body, back and stomach. Mostly the legs though. ;) She does a lot of Plyo work, and that is what happened to me when I was doing Insanity also.

Karen, Happy Birthday! You already have the Killer Buns workout? I'm not suppose to get it until after the 3rd. :( I ordered from Amazon though, got it for $8.99! So I guess that I can wait a bit. I do have it scheduled in, so I'm hoping to get it next week. I gave Susan the info on what I have seen so far using Jillians workouts. I can say that since I started the change up and incorporated different workouts of hers, my core has been DOMS central!

Lala, I love that you still get nervous for the first day! ;)

Have a wonderful day!

Hello, everyone. I finally did GER 1000 yesterday and hated pretty much every minute  I'll have to try it again, because I'm not sure if I hated it because I was tired and grumpy, or because I really hate it. The format is 3 minutes of progressively intensifying cardio followed by roughly 1 minute of weights. All the weights are combination moves, a lot of them requiring balance. I didn't choose heavy enough weight most of the time, so I didn't feel like I fatigued my muscles very well. But after the huffing and puffing from the cardio, it seems strange to pick up heavy weights. I don't know, I'll have to try the "weights only" premix sometime. I could see enjoying that more. There are also premixes for just half the workout. I think I'm one who prefers Jari's weights only stuff.

First week of school is over! Our school gives us a 3-day week, followed by a 4-day week, and then a full week. It's nice to ease back in.

Lala- I still get really nervous before the first day, too. I told someone my heart was in my throat the other day. :)

Laurie- Yup. I may have to invest in that one. I've already spent my video money for this month  , but maybe during our next monthly budget. I've realized I should probably have a "core day" once a week. DS is still fine, so who knows? I think he's in a constant growth spurt. He's as tall as some 4 year-olds, and he's only 2.

Susan- Thanks for the well-wishes. Everything went great... you should tell your DS teachers don't like to get up either ;)

Have a great day everybody!
