BUFF BADGERS Tue 3/21

Morning BB's,

Today will be Bodymax.

For the first day of spring it is really cold out. x(

Sue, that was interesting that they inserted a Turbokick segment into your class. I wouldn't call that light exercise. :D Even if I had hard shoes on I would have taken them off and started kicking away. :)

Susan, I'm a terrible bowler. Gutter balls are the best thing I can do!

Sarah, I hear you on the B'Days. My DD's are only 9 days apart on their's. The best part is I only have to have one family party. ;-)

Ellen, My parents live 5-1/2 hrs away from us, and it never seems to be a long enough visit. We will be heading up there for Easter and I'm thinking of taking an extra day, just so we can chat.

Have a great day!

Laurie

Hi everyone,

Yes, it was VERY brisk on the way to work this morning. Brrrr!

Last night was Cardio & Weights. That's such a fun workout. I love the music and the step routines are just plain fun! The ab work kills me too.

My in-laws live about 5 1/2 hours away too, and I agree with everyone - it's hard to make the visit in a regular weekend. We almost always need to "buffer" it with an extra day at least.

YAWN! My DS is sick and was up at 4:50 and never went back to bed. That'll teach me for staying up late to watch the Sopranos and Big Love. Early to bed tonite!

Hi to all who come later - Sarah

Hello Ladies!

Today was Christi Taylor's Happy Hour. It's a nice, fun break from Cathe. I am preparing myself for IMAX tomorrow. The plyo scissors always kill me!

Stay warm! Susan

Hi BBs,
I had stage 1 of a root canal yesterday and no workout. Stage 2 is next Monday but could be sooner if she has a cancellation. Other than today would be OK. I couldn't open my mouth that far today. Tonight is spin class and hope to be ready to get back to morning workouts tomorrow. Went back on the HRT patch and that problem is resolving.

Sue - What did you think of the turbokick segment? Did you like it better than turbojam? I think it would have been better if they had warned everyone what to expect. They might have thought they were going to march in place or do a Leslie type workout. That is a nice facility out there but very far out of the way for me.

Good morning,

Today I did Legs and Glutes and the upper body split of Muscle Endurance. I admit that I didn't do all of the biceps exercises :) I haven't been lifting nearly as often as I used to and have lost some strength and endurance in my muscles. Now that it's staying light out in the evenings, I think I can do a weight workout some mornings and run outside in the evenings. We'll see how long my resolve to do that lasts!

Yes, every time we've gone back to Indiana to see friends or my boyfriend's family, it never seems to be enough. We're actually thinking about moving back to Indianapolis — my boyfriend has had a hard time adjusting to life in Wisconsin, and we really want to buy a house but have had no luck finding anything that's affordable around Madison. The prices seem to just keep going up, and if I'm going to go to school full time soon, we need something affordable. I'm back and forth on how I feel about this... most of my family is in Wisconsin, and I've never lived far from my mom, other than a few months after college. But I also feel like I've never really taken the chance to make a life on my own or done my own thing, because family stuff always crops up. My dad left my mom right after the first semester of my freshman year of college, and neither of my brothers was around to pick up the pieces when she needed it. This is a hard decision. But I'll be 28 in a few days... at some point I have to live my own life, right?

Sorry so long :) This stuff is all I've been thinking about.

Marie, I hope your root canal goes okay and that you're recovering from the first stage. Dental work is always rough.

Take care,

Ellen

Ellen - Are house prices better in Indianapolis than Madison? From what I have heard it is a buyer's market now so people might be more willing to accept less than the asking price. Is he working now or a student? Could he find a good job in his field there? Maybe you could find something have way between your families so you can both see family and friends without too long of a drive? Did you live there before or always here? I assume you plan to get married if you are buying a house together so would you get married here or in IN?

Housing costs are much more reasonable in Indy than they are here. For example, a three-bedroom, two bath house here costs more than $200,000, while in Indy that would be closer to $150,000. He works in the ad design department at the newspaper here, but the majority of his experience is in newspaper sports. He's already been semi-offered a job at the newspaper in Indy (the sports editor there used to be the sports editor at the paper where we met) and would make significantly more money than he makes here. Most of his family is in Indy, and most of our friends are in Indiana (to be honest, I've never really made friends here). We moved here from Indiana in 2004; I am from Lafayette, Ind., and he is from Indy; we both went to school at Purdue and lived there until coming here. My parents are both from Wisconsin and I always liked Madison, which was why I wanted to move here. We'll be married probably in the next year or so and will do a destination wedding.

So complicated! :)

Marie - It was a lot more straight forward punching and kicking but I got the feeling she was trying to make the choreography easier for the kids and adults who aren't used to kickboxing. Not a lot of shaking going on like in TJ - that would really scare the kids off!

Marie - Good luck with your root canal. Dentist appointments are never fun. I've been procrastinating for a week now on scheduling a crown.

Ellen - I wish you well with your decision where to live. It's a tough choice. I've only been "through" Indianapolis (never visited) but I've heard positive things about Indy from people who live there. Fortunately, DH and I only had to decide between Madison and Milwaukee so we chose Waukesha which is somewhat in the middle.

Sarah/Laurie - Thanks for the reminder! I have birthday parties to plan, too. My kids' birthdays are also 9 days apart.

Did GS Back + KPC premix w/abs (the one with all 3 combos - I think it's called blocking and kicking).

It's SNOWING outside! Ugh! I didn't hear anything on the weather report this morning about snow. One of my co-workers leaves for Florida and 80 degree weather tomorrow. She's 23, cute, single and heading to Daytona Beach. Oh, to be young and foolish again. (sigh)

Stay warm!

Sue

Ellen - a better job offer and more money on top of better housing prices are all good motivators to move. I wanted to do a destination wedding when DH and I got married (second for both of us) but he wanted to do a more traditional one. It was really nice but I think destination weddings seem more exotic and so much of the work is done for you!

Sue - what did you think of turbokick?

Ellen - I forgot to ask what locations you're considering for a destination wedding. What a fun idea!

Marie - You must have missed my response above. Or maybe I didn't answer the question (LOL). In short, it was fun but I don't think it was a true representation of what her Turbokick class is like. A lot of people didn't know how to do a hook or uppercut so she had to demonstrate a lot. Plus, the room was crowded so we couldn't move around much. I STILL want to try Turbokick at our Y and one of these days I'll do it.

Sue

---Ellen - I forgot to ask what locations you're considering for a destination wedding. What a fun idea! ----

Don't kid yourselves - it sounds good, but is a nightmare. My brother just did one of these and 90% of the family could not attend, as a result. It's fine if everyone has to travel anyway, but unless you don't care if no one comes or all of your friends are wealthy, don't do it. Just elope! I was one of the folks who couldn't attend and it's very tough to reconcile not going with all of the other factors that make it impossible. No point in making people feel bad when it's supposed to be a happy occassion. Even the people who went would have preferred a simple, home ceremony. It's a major hassle!

We've made it known to our families and friends for a long time that we would do it this way, probably somewhere around Las Vegas, as that's where his dad lives and it's reasonable for most of our friends if they want to come. I really only care if our immediate families are there, honestly, although I know that most of my aunts and uncles would probably come too. My best friend did a destination wedding in Cape Cod, and it was fantastic for everyone, including me as one of the only friends who went. I am very uncomfortable as the center of attention, so the smaller the better. I guess I'm really only concerned about whether we're happy that day, that our parents aren't killing each other and that he shows up :)

I think Door County even has some wedding packages but I am sure there are lots of places to choose from when you start to look at options for destination weddings. I can understand the family issues that can get involved and want to avoid. I would think that people could be civil to make your day special with whatever you decide to do.

Sue - sorry I missed the response. Still kindof out of it! Not all instructors shake it like Chalene. In the rounds she encourages them to use the style they are comfortable with.
