Hello fellow Badgers!

Hope you all had enjoyable weekends. Mine was good overall. The soccer tournament wore us all out and yesterday was spent doing housework, and then for a bike ride with my DS.
Today I have to get in the basement and clean, clean ,clean!!! I have a guy coming tomorrow to give me an estimate for putting the floor in our new bathroom and I don't want him to see my basment the way it is now!

My workout today is Legs & Glutes followed by Pilates Power Sculpting Abs. I also wlaked for 40mn this morning.

Bye! Susan

Good morning! Wow, Susan, sounds like you are going to have lots of activity today! I´m going to walk and since I can´t do a whole lot, I´m going to bake!

Hi, guys. I don't know where to begin but it's been a rough 24 hours. Last night as we were on a family bike ride, we had a pileup and DH who was in the rear got hurt the worst. I didn't see it happen because I saw my DD crash into DS and go down hard so I ran to her. By the time I turned around DH was on the ground writhing in pain. He managed to bike about 4 miles home and when he got home decided to take a bath in Epsom salts to ease his soreness. Well, he couldn't take his t-shirt off on his own so called for help. I helped him into the bath but the bath didn't help. He was having stabbing pains on his inside forearm and we realized right away he needed immediate medical care.

I called our doctor to see where they would send me and the closest Urgent Care place that was still open (it was about 9:15 p.m.) was in Brookfield - about a 25 min. ride from our house. The doctor took x-rays of his forearms but didn't find anything. She thought maybe he had some kind of nerve damage but they didn't have the proper equipment to do anything other than x-ray it. She told us to followup with our primary physician today and if it was really bad to go to the ER. The whole time DH is having terrible muscle spasms and shooting pain anytime he made the slightest movement. I felt so bad for him. The doc prescribed pain killer and muscle relaxant which I picked up at 24 hour Walgreens. Didn't get to bed until 12:30 this morning. The pain killer sedated him so he could sleep at least but he woke up twice before finally getting up at 6:30 with shooting pains again. The meds weren't really helping. :-(

I scheduled an appt. with our primary but the soonest we could get in was 2:15 p.m. I explained the debilitating pain he was in so their recommendation was to go to the ER. So off to the ER we went. . . 6 hours later they finally determined both elbows had slight hairline fractures. Why the Urgent Care doc didn't x-ray the elbows is unknown. DH didn't have any pain in the elbows or maybe the pain in the forearms was so predominant he didn't even realize it. Anyway, what we think happened (since DH can't remember and I didn't see what happened) is that he flipped over his handlebars and somehow landed on his back and came down hard with both elbows.

They put on half casts on both arms from wrist to elbow, bent at 90 degrees. They're crossed so it looks like he's in a straight jacket. He can't use his arms at all - can't eat, can't drink, can't scratch his nose, can't take his glasses off, can't brush his teeth, can't drive, the list goes on and on - on his own. In a week we're supposed to see the Orthopedic Surgeon and see if he needs surgery or if permanent casts can be put on. They were concerned about swelling so only put a half cast on. Best case scenario is that he's in casts for 6 weeks.

Sorry to be such a downer today but it's been a long, stressful day and I didn't get much sleep. I took off work today and will probably be out for at least a few days until we figure out a system. The kids can help with some things but not all.

To top it off, I found out my co-worker, the one who found out he has cancer 8 weeks ago, has been taken off his feeding tube. He's only 44 years old and they're waiting for him to die. The doctors say there's nothing more they can do. Makes me sad and angry at the same time. We don't know why his family is doing this other than to go along with his wishes of not taking extraordinary measures to keep him alive. DNR - Do not resuscitate - I think is what it's called. It all seems so surreal. None of us at work thought this was going to be how it turned out.

So anyhow, I may not be around the Forums much over the next few weeks - or maybe I'll be bored and be around more than usual. I don't know yet.

Sue

Oh My!

Sue, I am so sorry to hear about what you are going through! How awful! It's awful that your DH had to wait to get someone to figure out what was hurting. I do hope he heals quickly. Either way, I wish you all the best. I am sure it won't be easy for him or the rest of you. You're in my prayers. As for your co-worker, that is sad that they have already decided to stop taking measures to help him. However, if it is his wishes, they can't really say anything. It's sad but he must know what he is doing.

Don't you forget to take care of yourself during all of this either! You won't be any help to anyone if you run yourself ragged! ;)

My days have been busy but quiet. Today was the elliptical for 35mn and a 20mn pilates max. workout.

You all take care and God bless- Susan

Hello BB's,

I have finally been able to log on to the site. Can't believe it took so dang long. Oh well.

Sue, Sorry to hear about your DH and your Co-Worker. Hang in there. You are in my prayers.

DD15 is in Puerto Rico this week with our church youth group. I just got back from taking my MIL to the grocery store. She hurt her back, so needs help with things. DD11 was with her all day to help with some chores.

Faire is going a lot better than last year, so I'm happy!

Will be back for more of a chat, just heard the timer for dinner.

Have VB tonight also.

Laurie

Sue, soooo sorry to hear about DH. Hope that he doesn´t need surgery and that something can be done to make him more comfortable. I´m glad that DS and DD are OK. You´ll be in my thoughts and prayers.

Good Morning,

Sue, sorry about DH. I hope he is feeling better. That has got to be quite an adjustment for your whole family, especially DH. What would a permanent cast be? Anyway, take care of yourself and I will pray for a quick healing and patience and rest for you. I hope you are around more instead of less. What does DH do for work again?

Laurie, glad you are back on. Was your vacation nice? Glad to hear the faire is going well this year. I'll bet DD is having fun in Puerto Rico. My mom and dad used to live there and we went to visit them. Body surfing is so fun with the waves. White sandy beaches. It was a lot of fun but hot and that was in the winter.

Susan, you are really motoring through summer. You sure keep busy. How did it go in your basement the other day? I hope they quote you something in a good range. Lately everyone seems to be upping their prices. Probably gas a lot to do with gas.

lala, glad you are taking it easy. Baking sounds good to me. What did you make? I'll bet you are raring to go roller blading again.

I was off the computer becasue DH forgot to pay the bill so we got it shut off. Sorry for not being around but it is paid and I am back. Lucky you(insert smily face)

Monday I did GS chest/tri/abs, Tue I went for a 42 mile bike ride with DH and hi/lo knockout. Today I am doing GS back/biceps/shoulers/legs.

DH is leaving for a 24 hour 2 man race in Wausau this weekend so he is trying to get ready for that. DS has a pre-algebra class for a couple of weeks and I have to get to the beach at least once this summer. I didn't realize how much more time consuming taking DD to and from her job would be. It seems I get something started and have to leave again. My car is getting a good workout.

Rambled long enough. Have a great day.

Hello!

Laurie, I am jealous of your daughter! LOL! Hope she is enjoying herself! Hope you had a nice vacation!

Karen, I have a friend that is in that same race this weekend. He loves his races. Hope your DH does well. Glad to have you back!

Lala, I love baking. I often wish I worked in a bakery but then I'd probably weigh about 100 pounds more!

Sue, hope your DH is surviving. Is he still taking pain meds?

Today is Max. Inten. Strength followed by a 20mn hi-intensity elliptical workout.

Oh, yeah, Ruby got attacked while walking again! There is a woman in our neighborhood who walks her 3 shit-zus without a leash. One of them always comes up and bites Ruby in the back of the leg and ankles. I usually try to avoid her at all costs. Well, anyway, Ruby is getting really tired of being attacked I think cause she turned around and grabbed the thing by the neck and gave it a shake. It whimpered, but came right back at us! The owner was calling her name but not getting close enough to stop it. I have so had it with the people in this town! She is the neighbor to our chief of police! Apparently he doesn't care that she doesn't obey the leash laws! Grrrrrrr....

There enough of that vent! :)

Take care everyone! Susan

Susan, what is the name of your friend? Maybe DH knows him or at least of him. Sorry Ruby got attacked again. Poor dog. I wish people would train or at least take care of their dogs if they are going to have them. I hope it doesn't happen again. Have a good day.

Morning BB's,

Today’s workout was speed work for 5 miles on TM. Will do P90X+ Abs/Core Plus workout when I get home. Need to go get DD11 new shoes for faire tonight too.

Karen, So sorry that we where not able to get together on the Friday of my vacation. I didn't get your e-mails, and I'm thinking that you didn't get mine either. And then to come back from vacation, and not being able to get on the site to post was frustrating. Probably wouldn't have been able to see you anyway. Cami decided to chase a deer on the morning we where going to leave. She was AWOL for more than half an hour, just glad there was no DNR warden around to shoot her for chasing the deer. We had a great time on vacation, but I never got in a single workout. The deer flies where most annoying, so I didn’t even attempt to run.

Susan, Sorry to hear about Ruby getting attacked! That is the reason they do have leash laws. Wonder why she thinks her dogs are so special!!! I’m jealous of my DD too, she is probably going to be coming back with a really great tan. Most of the work they are doing out there is outdoors. And they get to spend one day at the beach.

Lala, I’m sure that I will get acquainted with you as time goes on. Love to bake too, just wish I had more time. I have to remember to make a pie for this weekend.

Sue, Hope you have caught up on your sleep, what a time you did have.

Need to find out how to get the smiles working.

Have a great day!

Laurie

Laurie – What a great experience for your DD! I hear Puerto Rico is a beautiful country. The cruise ship on our honeymoon left from Puerto Rico but we didn’t see any of it except the airport. Glad to hear Faire is going better this year. How’s your young Queen doing? To get smilies to work, go to UserCP, Edit Options and at the very bottom make sure the Message Editor Interface is set to Enhanced Interface – Full WYSIWYG Editing. Then you can click on the smilies and they’ll be inserted into your message.

Kay – Maybe I’m using the wrong terminology here. DH is in a splint now or half cast as the doctor called it to allow for more swelling. Next week he’ll get a full cast on which he’ll wear for 5 weeks or so. (Cross your fingers it’s less than that!) Wow, your parents LIVED in Puerto Rico? Was your dad in the military? How cool is that.

Susan – I really think you need to speak to your alderman or someone about all these dogs attacking other dogs. Seriously. We had a dog in our neighborhood that killed another dog. Not trying to scare you but Ruby or some other dog could get seriously hurt and it’s not fair to you or Ruby that these other people who aren’t following the law are taking away the pleasure of your daily walk and potentially hurting Ruby. Easy for me to say I know. I’ll get off my soap box now. ;)

Yesterday was a pretty good day. I managed to give DH a sponge bath, wash his hair, get him into a real short-sleeved button-down shirt (he was wearing the hospital gown) and go for a 2 mile walk together. Last night we went over to a friend’s house to see if his friend could cut off the very end of his splint which was rubbing against his fingers. He managed to cut it off with a hack saw without cutting off any fingers along with it so that was good. Today I’m going to try to do a circuit workout. I need to get my oil changed and headlight replaced before I get a ticket and it’s a busy softball/baseball night. Will try to see a little bit of both games and take DH along so he doesn’t go stir crazy.

Thanks for all the support, guys! This has been quite an adjustment for our family but we’ll survive.

Have a great day!

Sue

Checking back in again to say I did a SB/SJP circuit premix. It was only 45 min. but it whipped my butt. I went really heavy with the weights so I'll probably have DOMS tomorrow. Off to cut up one of DH's old t-shirts and attach velcro to make it easier to take on/off.

Sue

Good morning! Today I have a PT appt for elbow tendenitis (yes, the ol bod is falling apart :() and I´ll walk home from there. It may be over an hour walk, i¨ll find out! I have some itrain ellipital and swim workouts and one is an outdoor walk, so I´ll use that.

Laurie, nice to meet you. Your DD will have a great time in PR.

Karen, Wausau is right in my backyard, so to speak. It is the closest place to do any "real" shopping :D:D

Susan, ITA with the others. I would maybe start with talking directly to this woman or just go ahead and make a formal police complaint. There is a reason for leash laws and it is just not right that poor Ruby suffers for others selfishness.

Sue, Sounds like you are all managing well. Had to laugh about having the end of DH´s splint cut off. Sounded like something from "Home Improvement!"

Enjoy the day, it´s supposed to be beautiful:cool:

Hi gals,

Today I am doing CC7 on my spin bike. Didn't end up doing legs yesterday, I was just to tired.

Laurie, I really like your avatar. What a pretty picture. I have to figure out how to get one of me up. All our pictures are lost on the other computer so we don't have any on the loaner. I'll bet that makes a difference.

Susan, hope you and Ruby enjoyed an uneventful walk this morning.

Sue, how are you all holding up? What profession is your neighbor in that he felt comfortable enough to cut near a hand? You sure wouldn't want me doing that.

lala, it sounds like you will have a nice walk home. To bad our family is not going to this race we could see you. Hope your Dr. appt. goes well and they find nothing wrong with you.

Have a good day.

Laurie! I feel like such a dufus for not noticing your cute Avatar. How appropriate for you! Oh, my P90X + workouts came last week. I already did the kickbox one. It'll take some getting used to the combos but not as repetitious as the original P90X kickbox.

Karen - Our friend who did the cutting is a pharmacist and project buddy of DH's. What I mean by project buddy is that everytime DH has a question about some remodeling/repair project he's doing around the house, he'll call this friend up for advice, go over to use his power tools or actually have this guy come over to help. He's a good friend so I trusted him with DH's fingers. ;) It really wasn't that close to his fingers and he cut away from the hand.

Lala - I didn't know iTrain had anything for outdoor walks. Let me know how you like it. Hope you get good news about your elbow today.

One of my sisters broke her elbow in 2 places last year which I forgot about (Lala - I come from a big family of 8 girls and 4 boys) and told me the Ortho surgeon wrapped her elbow in an ace bandage 5 days later and told her to start moving it around so she wouldn't lose range of motion. Wondering now if we should try to see the Ortho surgeon before Monday???

Anyway, DH has learned how to do quite a few things on his own so he's a little more independent. He can lift the toilet seat for example and open the car door. His legs will be in great shape from all the squatting he's doing.

I plan to do cardio today. Gotta get going and take DS to Summer Rec.

Later,
Sue

Morning BB's,

Todays workout was P90X Total Body Plus.

Nothing exciting going on tonight, will be heading out to church and then DD11 gets to decide where we go for dinner. She just loves that we go out to eat after church. I never was able to head out to the shoe store yesterday, so I'm thinking that we will be doing that tonight after dinner.

Karen, I was very happy with the avatar also. I think that is the first picture, that someone has taken, that I don't have my mouth open. ;) Yep you will need to have the pic on the computer you are working on to put it in your avatar, or if you have a web shot you can link it. Still having a great time with those CC workouts I see.

Lala, I have been though Wausau many many times. My parents live up in northern WI, so we have to go through Wausau whenever we head up there. That city has really gotten so big since I first moved down here. I used to live in Medford, so Wausau was one of the biggest cities to shop in at the time. :) Yep the body sometimes doesn't do what we want it to.

Sue, Is your DH off of work right now? Can't even imagine all the hoops that you have to go through just to get him dressed. DD15 will have a free day tomorrow before they head home on Saturday. The hotel they are staying at has a phone, so I'm hoping to get to talk to her tomorrow. Will be happy to hear her voice. Our young Queen did a great job, and I wish we had her permanently. Our current queen is a diva! Don't get me wrong, she is a great actress, but is very high maintenance. Thanks for the info, as you can see I'm using the smilies. Of course I found out that you are limited to 4 only.

Susan, Hope your day is a good one. Are you getting outside in this beautiful weather. I'm hoping that next week is good, because we are going to spend one day at the State Fair. ;)

Have a great day!

Laurie

Hi!

Man, if I don't check on here I miss so much!

Laurie, everyone is right! Your picture is very pretty! :) Hope you enjoyed your dinner!

Lala, my BIL and SIL live in Wausau. However, we only head up there about 2 times a year. It is a pretty area.

Sue, I am glad to hear that your DH is managing to do some things on his own. I am sure he still gets a little frustrated now and then. It would be great if he didn't need surgery!

Karen, my walk was uneventful this morning, cuz I didn't go for one! LOL! I overslept big time and had to rush to get myself and DS ready to go to his rec sports. Ruby didn't seem to mind the off day and we made sure to run her around the yard.

Today I was gone all morning at the park and this afternoon was mow the lawn and yard work. This is my weekly Thursday workout! It was a hot one today!

Hope you all have sweet dreams! Susan

Susan - I'm sure Ruby was happy to run around the yard. You're right - it was a hot one. I'm sure you got a good workout in doing all that yardwork.

Went to Dojo tonight for the first time in weeks. Brought DH along to watch and get out of the house and of course everyone had to hear the story of what happened. I think he's scared at least a dozen people away from riding their bikes for the rest of the summer.

The Dojo workout was pretty easy so I fit a few things in here and there: SJP abs, PS-SLA floorwork and BBC Legs cardio. Yeah, I know - I'm all over the board aren't I? :D I like mixing and matching like that though.

DH is managing to do more and more by himself. He still can't drive (of course) or lift his arms over his head but he's figured out how to feed himself and turn pages and even use the pc. Where there's a will, there's a way. Talked to my boss today and said I'd come in for a few hours tomorrow to see how it goes. DD will be there to help him. He can use the bathroom himself now (aside from showering and washing hair) so he should be okay.

Good night,
Sue

Good Morning,:)

Thanks for the info on getting smilies to work. Today I am doing B&G. Yesterday, I took CC out on the road instead of on a trainer--what a blast compared to being inside. Tomorrow I will do CC on the bike and Sun. will be Kettlebell Way.

Susan, how did your yardwork go in the heat? That is a good Thursday workout.

Sue, you do quite a mishmosh of workouts. It keeps it fun that way. Glad to hear DH is doing well with it all. I'll bet you guys had fun telling the story at Dojo.

Laurie, what are your girls up to this summer? Are they still doing some jobs to help you out around the house.

lala, how did your walk home yesterday go? What did the Dr. say about your elbow?

Have an enjoyable day and weekend. Love the smilies.:D
