Bryan Kest's Power Yoga 2

WOW! What a workout! I'm hooked on Bryan Kest! I love Power Yoga 2. This is a phenomenal yoga video.....where have I been? I've tried may yoga videos and have been dissapointed but this one is fast paced, challenged my strength and flexability. I felt wonderful after doing this. And Bryan.....good instruction, motivating and just beautiful to watch! OK, OK, I'll stop now. Can anyone recommend similar videos? I'm really hooked and would like to include more Power Yoga into my excercise rotations.

I love this tape too! I assume you also have his Power Yoga 1 and 3 of this series? They're great too. I like to add 15-30 minutes of yoga to my Cathe workouts as well as do one full yoga video each week. I do yoga for various reasons but the main reason by far is to increase flexibility. I don't think you can beat yoga for this.

For my add-on, I use Baron Baptiste's Power & Precision Yoga, which is divided into 4 15-minute segments. It's not quite as challenging as Kest but is a solid intermediate tape.

David Swenson has a DVD called "Short Forms" which contains three workouts (15, 30 or 45 min). Another great video but I wish the poses were held a bit longer. Good instruction, though, with an emphasis on breathing.

I just recently bought a Body Wisdom DVD called "Yoga for Every Body" from Best Buy for $14.99. This video contains dozens of workouts of varied lengths and purposes at three different levels (beginning, intermediate, and advanced). The workouts range from 15-75 minutes. There are 65 poses and/or series of poses which appear in a different order within the various workouts you can select. They don't exactly flow like the workouts listed above but I've done two of the advanced workouts so far and really liked them! (Although I wouldn't call them advanced. I am by no means advanced in yoga. Advanced is Madonna or Bryan Kest or David Swenson.) But they were challenging and I feel like I got wonderfully stretched out. If you go to the "Combinations, Rotations, & Modifications" section of the "Video Fitness Community" of videofitness.com, you will find a post by Jennifer R from 2-16-03 entitled "Chaptering and Decoding for Yoga for Every Body" which provides a detailed list of the asanas.

Good luck!

Alexandra,

I love the Kest series as well. I also love, in spite of the fact that my husband ruthlessly makes fun of her, Wai Lana. You may have seen her series on PBS. She has several levels, and while she's not technically ashtanga in style, you get a workout, plus she tells all the health benefits to the organs and mind of the various poses. She has a website, wailana.com, and I have gotten her vids used through amazon quite inexpensively.

Wai Lana is great. I have her 9 video series and if you follow it from Easy to Fun Challenge in order she teaches you the major Yoga poses in stages just like a progressive class does. Try her you'll like her I think. It's not Power Yoga but it's good.

I totally love Kest's PY series. When I feel really tight or if my back hurts or I'm just really stressed this video fixes things almost instantly. I couldn't find any other series that could do that. Somedays I wished they were shorter so they could be tacked on to other workouts. I'm trying to run and find yoga a phenomenal addition it.

Hey!

I love his workouts too. He has some new videos out too, power yoga advance, basic and for weight loss. I have them all and they rock! Also he has some cd's of his live classes which are so great. I like the videos, but not matter how hard i try, i can't help but try and compete with the super flexible people on screen. So this really helps me to work with only me. His Long Slow and Deep class is great as is his Adcanved Boot leg. Give them ago, well worth the money.

Icklemoley,

How are his newer videos? Do any of them compare to his Energize, Tone, Sweat series? I love the way he holds the asanas for a long time. You're right about the "uberflexible" class participants. I was a bit intimidated by them when I first started doing the tapes but I kept reminding myself that yoga is about MY body and what I am feeling. (BK only reminds us about that a zillion times throughout the workouts!)

Advanced and Weight Loss are great videos. Really make you sweat, especially Weight Loss. It uses similar poses, but in weight loss you actually do repetitions of some of the poses. I've never before done this, and it took some getting used to, but it really does make you sweat and burn those calories. Plus my arms are looking great now. I agree, he does tell you to do the best you can do, but when you see those super slim, fit, tonned and oh so flexible women / men it does make me wish i was more like them and less like me. One women in the Power 3 video (sweat series) at the front of the class, dark hair, short(ish) is so perfect, her body, wow, to die for!
