Bryan Kest videos question

Cathlete
I've got volume 3 and am looking at getting 1 and 2. 3 is difficult for me but do-able; will 1 be too easy? Is it mainly instructional?
Thanks!

These are all great tapes to have. They all start out the same, but each one of them uses different poses from the primary series. They are all about the same length in time. I need to put these back into my new rotation, because I was feeling really good, until I stop doing them. My aches on my upper body are back, as well as my headaches. The only reason why I stopped, was because I need to lose about 10 lbs, so I switched my workout priorities, but I do notice the difference, so I have to do it.

Try them, you'll see.

Hey, if you like the 3rd volume, you will like the other two, they are both as difficult.

Hi Kellib,

I don't have an answer to your question, but I do have some questions for you. I hope that is ok. What is power yoga like?  I see that you've been doing the kest 3 tape so I thought you'd be a good person to ask.  I am getting so bored with weight training and I want to try something new.  I have read that power yoga can take the place of weight training.  Do you think that is true?  What types of results would one see from doing it?  I just ordered the kest 1 tape through half.com, so I am anxiously awaiting it.  I have read in several different places that the 1 tape may be difficult for beginners, but I know that if it is too easy I'll get bored quick so I just ordered it and am going to try it out. It was only $10 including shipping at half.com. Will I need a yoga mat or any other equipment that you know of? Thanks for your help. I hope that someone is able to answer your question about the 1 and 2 tapes. You may want to check out videofitness.com, there is some good info about the tapes there. BYE!!

Oh that was weird. At the same time I was posting my last post, Lourdy was also posting here. Lourdy if you read this again, are you saying that power yoga does not help you lose weight? Do you find that weight training helps you lose weight better?

Hi Kristie!

I try to put one video of either pilates or yoga, sometimes a flex-a-ball tape, into my weekly routine. I personally do not feel the yoga can take the place of weight training but I've heard that it complements the weight training well. I like it because it adds variety and I think it increases my flexibility. I also feel it gives me a good work out. I usually do something else on the day I do yoga or pilates, either cardio or weight lifting (Depending on time).

The Kest tape I have (vol. 3) is difficult and I think it will give you a good challenge. Based on the other feedback I got, I'm going to go ahead and get 1 and 2. Sam's Club online has all the videos for 5.99 each, but you have to have a sam's club card # to order.

I've also got Yoga Journal's Yoga for beginners (which I felt went too slow) and Ali McGraw's tape (I didn't really like it; I may give it another shot though; a lot of people do like this one).
Best wishes!

Hi Kristie, just this morning I did Bryan's first volume (Energize) and I feel better. I absolutely love all three videos, because they do work your body in a different way. I did not like the yoga zone tapes or the yoga from Patricia Walden because I don't feel they move anywhere near Bryan's. I like to feel that I've acomplished something during that time I've spent working out. To answer your question, it hasn't helped me lose wieght, but I feel that I work my all my muscles in a different way. I went to a 4 hour full Primary Series workshop, and it was so intense and hot in the room that I couldn't finish the entire primary series. The sweat was just pouring off of everyone, I was exhausted after that. I started going to a yoga studio and the teacher told me I would have to stop doing wt. training, if I wanted to get the full benefits of yoga, so I stopped going. I'm not ready to stop my wt. training, or anything else. I like doing a variety of things, but I have many friends who only do yoga now, have lost weight, feel great, and think it's the best thing they have ever done. They certainly don't miss the weights, When I get down to my ideal weight which is 10lbs away, I will try to do yoga every day, and see if it works for me. Hopes this helps.

Hi guys!

I've got Bryan's series. I've only done 1 and 2 so far because these tapes were my first experience with yoga. I really enjoy these tapes but have been a little indimidated to try 3 yet since I'm still such a beginner. I need to add them to my rotation more frequently.

I remember reading on Bryan's website that he didn't think yoga and weight training were "a good marriage" which sounds like what Lourdy's yoga instructor said. I keep promising myself that I'll do a "yoga only" rotation but keep delaying it because I've got a cardio/weight mind set and am afraid deviating from it will be detrimental. I'm sure that's ridiculous and with the positive posts I think I'll give it a try asap.

Hi Kellib!

I haven't emailed you in awhile - sorry, but been thinkin about ya, being pals in knee surgery - hope you are completely recovered. I have these tapes and really love them. I actually like one the best - it seems to have the greatest number of complementary poses (i.e. forward and backward). The beginning is pretty slow - he holds sun salutation one a LONG time, I usually do a couple in the time he has you holding down dog for interest. Otherwise, there is probably less instruction than there should be. I really like Beryl Bender Birch's book, Power Yoga for detailed instruction on how to do the poses and this is important for folks with knee problems. Get a copy if you plan to pursue. You can really mess up your knees if you have poor form with this type of yoga. I think volume 2 is the hardest - he has a lunge sequence that kills me - not sure I've ever been able to hold it as long as he and his pretzel crew have! But it is good too! Volume three goes fast and is exhausting in a very different way than the other two. I think you'll really enjoy 1 and 2 if you like three. Let us know! Hope all is well!

Cheers!
Colia

p.s. YOu will get some strength gains - remember - muscle confusion.... :)
