You know, anytime I have DOMS or even a small injury and people ask how I got it, and I tell them about my fitness routine, they often act like I'm crazy or should stop working out, that I'm hurting myself. They don't get it. If you are going to move, you will likely hurt or be injured at some point. Athletes get hurt all the time - it's the price of doing something you love. And DOMS is just how muscles work - it's the price of building a healthy body. You do what you can to avoid both: good form, active recovery, stretching, listening to your body, good nutrition, etc., but an active life is just inherently riskier than being a couch potato - at least in the short term. And hey, you might put your back out being a couch potato anyway, each time you get up for all those trips to the kitchen for potato chips and Coke!
