BPM for Kick Max and Kick, Punch and Crunch

Cathlete
Hi Cathe,

I want to first tell you how wonderful I think you are! I have been a fitness instructor since I was 18 (10 years ago) and worked for a national chain and no matter how many people I trained with you are by far the best. I first saw your workouts while flipping through the channels on Fit TV and have been hooked since! My question to you is what BPM do you use during your kickboxing workouts? The place I work for expects us to use 145+ BPM's and I am finding while teaching it is very hard to keep your balance and effectively execute the movements correctly. I have found your workouts to be much more effective.

Thanks! Jana

PS-As a new first time mommy thank you so much for sharing your story and not being afraid to show the "very tired mommy" picture! Your story really helped inspire to get my behind back in gear after having my daughter!
:)

Sorry to divert your thread Jana but, I read your screen name and said "hey that's me!!" My Marley just turned 15 and I love being her Mom!!!:) I just brought her over to see your screen name and she was delighted. Congratulations on the birth of your Marley and your inspired choice to get your 'behind in gear' }( :)

Just a thought but how would the club know what BPM's you are teaching at anyway. If you have pitch control, then you can slow it down or speed it up during the class. I agree with you on the form issue on kickboxing at higher bpms. My clubs do not tell me how fast to have my music and I probably would not follow their advice or do it their way anyway! They do not buy my music for me so they don't get a vote!

Sheila (Good luck)

Hi Shelia,

Are you sitting down for this.....they come in your class and time your BPM's! And...they have a "talk" with you if you are not teaching the way they want you to teach...no joke...it's not a fun talk to get!
The club supplies you with the music and the training and I swear no matter how much I speak up about it not being safe and effective I am talking to the wall. I even hurt myself one time in class throwing a punch while in bad form.

Geez, they actually clock it! I have to agree that it is too fast. I am glad that I do not work for them (though they do buy your music for you which is way more than my 2 clubs do for me though one is more of an employee benefit and nonprofit and the other is a national chain - shame on them for crappy mics, stereos, and customer service issues!).

Well please take it easy and safe! It can take a long time to recover from injuries!

Sheila
