BOSU Ball

I used a BOSU(Both sides up) ball for the first time the other day in my pump n pace class. Man what a strange thing that is! Basically it's half a fitness ball with a flat side to it so you can sit it on the ground and use it like a step. Except it's very springy. I found it kind of difficult at first to even stand on this as there is very little area that s flat for a person to stand without falling or being off balance. And I feel these can be dangerous, especially with jumps, because in my case mine was soaked from my sweat and I actually slid off a few times. Anybody else use these before?

Hi Trevor:). I have resisted the BOSU this far but I know I soon will cave. Plenty of my VF buddies have one and are enjoying the heck out of it.

The reason I've waited..I want videos and there really haven't been any good ones to make me jump on it..pun intended! I'm not the best at modifying a piece of equipment to a video it's not featured in. LOL But, that will soon change, Mindy Mylrea, Rob Glick, and Keli Roberts are a few that filmed for the BOSU company this last month. I'm guessing the workouts will be ready before spring??? I'm also hoping they are cardio-ish workouts.

My only exeperience playing with one was at a conference and Rob taught a class that had a lot of explosive moves on it..not just balancing and stationary core work. It was fun!

It will be interesting to see if you can work it into Cathe's new workouts with the big ball? One other big selling point for me is for pushups, folks say it's great to hold onto for pushups and helps with the wrists a bit..I could use that too;-)

Your class has me intrigued...how did they use it in the pace and race class? Is it a cycling class with interval work..I'd love that, now that would be a good workout for video/DVD!

RE: Oh..pump and pace

LAST EDITED ON Nov-30-02 AT 08:07AM (Est)[p]Hi Nancy!
Great hearing from you! The class I was referring to is called "Pump and Pace". It combines interval work on the spin bikes with weight/floor work. We do the first half hour on the bikes and then hit the weight/floor part of the class using dumbbells, bodybars, step, mats, and now BOSU.
The club just purchased a bunch of these BOSU balls so the instructors are working them into the various classes. It was my first time using one. I just thought they were a little dangerous when they get wet from sweat. And I always leave a puddle under me so I was slipping a little on it.
We did lunges, squats, situps, pushups, marches, and jumps right on the ol' BOSU. For pushups you flip it over so the ball side is against the floor and you grab the handles.
Drop me a line sometime if you like Nan.
