Bombed out on dive bombers

I try...I really do. After all this time, I STILL struggle with BG pushups.

I did DrillMax tonight. Here's my qustion:

How can I learn to do dive bomb push-ups correctly? Even trying it LG-style I'm a complete wimp!

Thanks for any advice!

It's easier for me to do Dive Bombers than regular push ups-straight. It does require some core and flexiblity in your back. Don't give up and don't get burned out on it either.

I did Drill Max today, too. I have improved, working more slowly than Cathe, I can finally get the downward motion and complete half of the reps that Cathe does, but the form on going back to starting position is no good...yet. I guess we just keep trying?

I think you and I are in a simiilar place. Plank work and push-ups are the only exercises that I ususally ignore what Cathe is doing and go at my own pace.

Hi Susan,

Are you doing them with your feet together or apart?

I learned the dive bombers in a martial arts class where you have your feet spread apart at or a little more than shoulder width apart. Tony does them like this in P90X.

For me, Cathe's version with the feet together feels awkward.

Just a thought...

You can also try doing just the "down" portion and then instead of coming back "under the fence" you just move back with your butt up into the air into a downward dog position. Tony Horton suggests this mod in P90X, and that way you can work up to doing as many full bomb diver push-ups as you can and then modify the remaining the ones. I know that doing them regularly in P90X was what really helped me to improve.

Good luck!

Thanks for the tips!

I do try them with Tony H.'s modification from P90X - feet apart and going under the fence, but not back under the fence.

I'll keep working on it. It just seems to be one of those moves that I'll always continue to improve - BG pushups, pikes on the ball, and dive-bomber push-ups!
