Body for Life opinions please

Yep, tytbody is right. The wonderful thing about BFL is that you don't have to count! You just naturally vary your calories. I have spent quite a bit of time on the phone w/the EAS folks (you can call for advice on the program anytime) and have learned that is important w/bfl that you do NOT count calories. You should eat different foods often so that you are not letting your body adjust. By varying your foods you will naturally have higher and lower days in regard to calories, carbs etc. It is all about choosing the RIGHT foods and eating the right PORTIONS. On days that I can feel my body being over hungry and needing the carbs I eat a portion of whole wheat bread or make sure to have a potato for dinner, something that helps fill me up - days that I feel I can eat less I don't.

Also, before I got preggo w/my last baby I was counting calories on fitday just to see what they came in at. It did help me in realizing the types of food that made my calories spike so high. However, when I asked EAS about it they said to STOP counting and that you shouldn't worry so much about calories and that when you start counting then you start selecting and narrowing your foods too much, and then end up without the variation that is so needed with this program.

There is also a great reference site www.hussman.org It has great info on the program, how our bodies use the food and why bfl works!

Hope that all made sense :)

Hey Fitnut,

how are we to do it all? I feel some days I got the food down and then someone says calories, I go ballistic. I now buy anythng, things that I like, low in fat and I watch the sugar but today, I had to have a piece of cake. Oh well. I had a very busy day at the hospital and I'm glad you don't have to *go nuts* if you eat something not in the plan.

They have made it easier for us. I've never called them but good to hear they answer questions. I'm lovin the compliments I get today even if I'm not feeling or looking like I'm losing anything. I swear I don't know why people say things like this. Cheryl, you are doing great... Cheryl, are you losing weight??? no. you just have not seen me for 2 weeks. LOL. But the food plan is ingrained and I'm still working on it.

Do you make a lot of the recipes or did you adapt your own after seeing how it is done?

tytbody - I do a combo of the recipes and my own stuff/recipes. I love the EFL meal that has cabbage, hamburger, brown rice etc. I add in this asian spice, extra garlic and we eat it all week. Don't know if it is the cabbage or what but every week my hubby and I eat it we both lose weight.

I also always make this garlic pepper chicken - I just chop up the chicken, saute it in the pan w/garlic, veggies and then put it with brown rice! Yummy!

I also will throw lean steak strips in a pan w/garlic and spices and then throw on top of brown rice. Only takes about 5 minutes to prepare and is fabulous!

I also just found this awesome brocolli in light cheese sauce. I think it only has like 1 gram of fat and 60 calories and something like 3 servings per box? I love it when I am craving cheese and veggies! It goes good w/the steak I describe above.

I like you just know what to eat... I don't have to hardly think about it anymore which is nice. I usally eat a shake after morning workout, oatmeal and cc or eggs for brkfst once I get to work. I vary what I eat for lunch, eat a bar for mid-afternoon and then vary dinner. What do you usually eat?

I too struggle w/being good all week. It is so hard. I sometimes have a snack mid week usually on Wed. Then on free day (saturday) I usually go to the gym in the morning and do a killer step class, eat bad 1/2 the day and good the early 1/2. I find this works good for me as I get a break mid-week and am able to eat a snack, bowl of cereal or a white tortilla with my dinner (funny what becomes a treat, heh?) When I workout on Saturday I usually take a free day from workout on Wed or Thurs and then do a total body workout on Friday.

I too can relate to all the comments. People lately have been telling me every day that I am losing weight. My clothes are getting baggy, but I just don't feel like I have lost that much. I can relate to this thread and others on how sometimes you just feel "squishy". I use to hang out on some BFL boards and they always said to "embrace the squishy" that is a good thing. I am hoping next week or soon after I feel harder and that maybe this fat is getting ready to fall off (at least the top layer). I am needing to buy all new pants so I guess that is a good thing. I have 5 pairs I bought in late December and they are the ones that are all too big.

Tomorrow I have UB and I am sooooo excited to do PUB. I did GS on Sunday. PUB is an old favorite of mine as is IMAX2. What workouts do you usually do?

We should really try to get the bfl check in going...seems there is starting to be more and more of an interest.
