Hey, Intensity Lisa! Actually, Aquajock IS my real name; I just use "Annette Simmons-Brown" 9-5 Monday - Friday for professional reasons only . . .}(
I both train AND teach in the water. I'm in the pool with my participants actually doing the workout as I'm leading it; although there's some controversy about that practice especially among aqua instructors (there are those who feel the participants need to see what you are doing and you should teach from the deck), IMHO I cannot know whether a movement is effective aquatically unless I'm doing it myself.
Also, I train alone in the pool using extended flutter kick drills, treading water drills, suspended long-lever leg drills, ab work, upper body work, and aqua jogging routines as well. Aqua is a perfect cross-training (I almost typed "crAss-training - what a Freudian, huh?) mode for me because it is such a joint-saver; because the impact forces are so much less and the resistive forces AROUND the body are so much greater, I can go at an ultra-high intensity level and not risk injury nearly so much. Plus it prevents body boredom as well as brain boredom (as if we could separate the two).
