Body fat % during pregnancy

Does anyone know the average or acceptable range for bodyfat % during pregnancy? I know my bodyfat has has increased greatly (and I know this is what happens) however I feel like it seems to have a increased markedly. Thanks in advance.

I don't know how this could be accurately measured because the body retains so much water while pregnant. I know that the usual body fat readings measure the percentage based on weight versus the resistance of water - something like that...I would suggest that you just not worry about it for now and deal with the problem after the baby arrives. It's not something that could be controlled anyway. The body gains what it needs to gain. For example, my thighs have become huge and they were never big before!;)

Hi Babyd,

It's been just over 4 years since I was pregnant, but I can so relate to the statement "my bodyfat has increased greatly", and wanted to share my experience. I remember being quite horrified and dismayed at how huge my arms, butt and thighs were -- they all got really thick. They looked fat, and the tissue felt like fat. Then, within a week after having my daughter, vooooom -- 20 lbs gone, and arms, butt & thighs looked much more normal. If I remember correctly, I think my thighs went down about 2-3" each during that week. So, even though I could have sworn it was all fat, a lot of it was water. I think that during that week, I sweated and peed more than I ever had in my life (sorry to be so graphic)!

You'll be surprised. Even if you do end up putting on extra fat, it's not as bad as it seems right now.

Good luck and I'll be thinking of you!

Thanks for the replies. I chuckled when I read the pee/sweat comment. You guys are great!!! Anyway, it makes sense not to focus too much on this given the water retention and resulting accuracy issue. I think seeing those numbers really can mess you up mentally. Its like all rationale and educated thought goes right out the window!!!
I do appreciate the posts though-sometimes you really need to be brought back to a realistic mindset.
