Blood Test Question

Hi,

Just a question for those of you who may know about this.

I had met with a new primary care doctor last month. She wanted me to get bloodwork done to check my numbers. then she wanted to see me in a month because I am a bulemic trying to stay in recovery and I am on Lexapro for that and anxiety. I put it off a couple of weeks because it made me nervous being a bulemic. I had them done 2 weeks ago this past Tues (with prompting from people here) SInce I did not hear anything i called yesterday. Her nurse said they were in and she would go over the numbers with me at my next appointment. (Which is friday) I have myself all worried because they did not call me at all to tell me they were in and I am thinking something is wrong. Should I be worried? My practical side tells me I had this appointment and they would have called me if there had been something really bad going on, but just waited because I have this appointment. Oh, I will stop rambling, any advice to keep me sane until tomorrow.

Thanks

Don't be worried. If any of the test results were way out of line, the office would have called you immediately. Relax and wait for the doctor to explain them all on Friday. And don't be afraid to ask questions. Doctors assume you understand what they are telling you, and sometimes it's all gobbledy gook. Repeat back to her what you think she is saying. Good luck and best wishes.

I agree with Robin. Doctors' offices usually DON'T call you with blood test results unless something is wrong. No news is usually good news. :)

Ditto to what Emily said. This is exactly the experience I have had. I also am the kind to call if I don't hear something, but there's no need to worry unless and until you actually get bad news.

Agree with everyone else. My doctor's office actually has a policy that they WON'T call unless something is wrong.

I can understand your anxiety though. I'm always anxious the week or so after worrying whether they ARE going to call. I'm pretty high-strung:)
