Bleachers

At the end of my 8 laps around the track every morning those bleachers are just calling my name. My ? is: Will bleachers help me lean out or do they bulk you up? I use no weights and do them at a moderate pace to keep my form correct. Thanks

I doubt they would bulk you up...but burn out those legs and be great for you...YES!!!!...:)...Carole

Should I walk the 8 laps first and then do them? Walk 4 laps, bleachers then another 4? I do notice that my heart rate kicks up while doing them.

RUNNING????????????????
I walk around the track 8 times. I am 5'3" and weigh 204. I think I have entirely too much weight to be running yet. I really wish I could though. BK (before kids) I used to run a lot. I WILL get there again some day soon. Sometimes when I'm walking I want to start running, but I hold myself back because I know what that much weight could do to your knees.

Sorry....:)...you might try the 4 laps first, then after the bleachers if you feel good try the other laps. I bet you will get back into it as you had run before...just be patient and give it some time...:)...Carole

AOK, tomorrow morning I will try the 4 laps ,walk and then 4 laps. I will let you know how it went. Tomorrow is supposed to be my day off but I like to do cardio still.:D Good night .

I never felt for a second you were snooty...:)...I have just run for so darn long, when I hear laps...I think its running...yes, let me know and have a good time!!...:)..Carole

I have thought about doing the same thing....well, not bleachers but steps.
At our civic centre we have a walking track that people use in the winter time and there are lots of steps in the building. I have thought about on my way home from my run sometime, I should go in there and run up and down the steps a few times. Then I wonder...who is in there? Will there be someone I know and then I will have to talk to them....and so on. But I bet it would rid of the last 5 lbs I would like to lose.

Lori - I'm chuckling because it sounds like your brain takes the same route that mine does! I have worried about the same thing... In reality, though, the times that I have done it, it wasn't a problem. The people I know will always take an elevator if possible, so it would be strange to see them on the stairs unless the building was on fire! :) Also, if you just wave and keep moving, obviously concentrating on your workout, most people don't expect you to stop and chat. I have a few cordial-but-not-chatty things I say to acknowledge them without starting a conversation, like 'Gotta love this exercise!'

As to the original post - I say if they're calling your name, go for it, as long as your knees are happy about it. 4 laps-bleachers-4 laps sounds like a good idea, too - you'll do great, I'm sure! I don't think you'll have to worry about bulking up - at least my experience with steps in general has been very positive in that respect. Good luck!

I DID IT! I DID IT! Pat myself on the back.LOL:7
The first 4 laps were great. I went UP the bleachers 4 times alternating my starting leg(that's 24 full steps up, (and then coming down of course). After the 4 sets of bleachers I did 20 squats w/ my toes pointed up (man did I feel that). Then I did one set of 20 alternating lunges.(Would have fallen over if the fence hadn't been spotting me). When I continued on the 5th lap of walking, that lap was kind of hard but I made myself go on and finish my entire walk. I felt really good. There was a lady there who always runs and she was asking why I did my workout like that today and OF COURSE I had to turn her on to Cathe. She is a stay at home mom also. She said she was going to check out the site when she went home. I am going to do my walk like that from now on.:7

Wow...that is so awesome!!!! And to add on squats and lunges. You are doing so well...:)...feels good to tell someone about Cathe!...:)...Carole

Thanks.:7
I started getting off the couch, stopping smoking and 64 oz. of Dr. Pepper a day on June 6th. The scale shows I went from 220 to 206 -208 (depends on when I weigh). I am mostly going by how my clothes fit. Once I get my Cathe's I am sure to see a whole lot more results.:7

Wow...those results are awesome. If you keep doing what your doing, Im sure you will be happy with the way you look in no time!

lorihart-
BK (before kids) I used to run around the track. What I would do is run around the curve of the track, run up the "steps" to the top of the bleachers, run across the top of them , down the side and then finish that lap on the track. I would choose the biggest set of bleachers to run up. Did I explain that right?

That's awesome!!
As for the bleachers, also awesome, do your calves hurt today? Whenever I do them, my legs are shaking by the end of it and my calves are sore for the next few days. I do enjoy them, though!!
Keep up the great work!!! I agree with you, Cathe workouts can be great motivation!!!

amyg-
My calves never hurt. I see people barreling up them. But I started out w/ taking my time because I want to make sure that my form is right. I am using the "knees not over the toes" rule. I know that as I get my form down pat, then I will start picking up the pace.:7
