Birthday Surprise

My birthday (39!) is coming up in April. DH has been working on a dresser for me for a while now (I've been without a dresser for my clothes for the last 14 years or so, keeping all my stuff in my closet). I was quite happy to go buy a cheap dresser from Walmart or something, but no...he insisted on making me one, which totally warms my heart. Even more endearing, he's going to be starting radiation treatment for a recent cancer diagnosis, and he wanted to get my dresser done ASAP in the event the treatment left him feeling kinda crappy. Here I am anxious about how he'll handle the treatment, and he's more concerned about my birthday present.

I just found out today...how I discovered this is not very interesting...that he planned on presenting the dresser to me on my birthday, and within the drawers would be all 3 STS Meso Cycles. How awesome and cool is that?!

He's bummed about the surprise being leaked, but I told him it does not matter in any way: I'm just as surprised and happy as I would have been mid-April. And my heart is all a-flutter. <3 He is wonderful.

I told him I HAD to tell you guys. Only fellow Catheites would understand such a meaningful gesture. :)

Lori, you have a wonderful husband. Just wonderful. Please know my best thoughts are with him, and you, in his upcoming cancer tx, and may his good karma come back threefold to him!

Happy Birthday!

A-Jock

Thank you, Annette. I will pass on your kind words.

He was diagnosed with testicular cancer, and a very non-aggressive kind that responds beautifully to treatment, so we actually consider ourselves pretty lucky. Well, as far as cancer patients go anyway. :)

Thanks for the b-day wishes! It's my last year as a 30-something.

Oh Lori!!! I'm in tears over the tenderness you and your DH have for each other. I will keep him and your sweet family front and center in my prayers with my best wishes for a complete recovery.

ETA, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Lori, I'm beyond 47-1/2 and I gotta tell ya - the Forties ROCK!!!!! I could live without the tiresome tapdance of perimenopause, which is kind of like puberty only backwards and in high heels, but other than that, it's a great time of life, especially when you are making wise choices (can you spell C-A-T-H-E?), and are reaping the cumulative benefits of earlier wise choices.

My own DH had a heart attack very suddenly almost 4 years ago; thankfully he came out of it blooming. The episode brought us even closer together, and we never ever take each other for granted. I have the feeling it is / will be the same for you and yours.

Take care -

A-Jock

Lori, what a wonderful, thoughtful gift! And, what a wonderful, thoughtful DH you have!

Best of luck to you and him and a speedy recovery!

Oh my, that brings tears to my eyes. What a sweet man!!

What a beautiful story! Wishing you a happy birthday, and praying for a smooth and successful course of treatment for your DH!!!

Proof. Really great men DO exist! And men who can DO things and MAKE things are especially awesome. You are so lucky lucky lucky.

He's pretty lucky, too ;).

Thank you, thank you guys for your well wishes and kind words. They are all greatly appreciated, believe me! <3 I can't wait to run upstairs and tell him about this thread.

Annette, I think I become more and more of who I'm supposed to be with each passing year, so I look forward to my 40s with great anticipation. :)

I'm so happy to hear your husband is doing well. How scary that must have been for you! You are very correct about this recent diagnosis affecting our relationship in a positive way. I didn't think it was possible, but I've become even more protective of him. And simple things, like seeing him ice skate with our girls or watching him play with our dog, make me weepy.

Lori. What a wonderful story. What a wonderful husband. Hope all goes well with the treatment and Happy Birthday!

Thanks, Janie!

His treatment may start this week ~ we're not sure. I'm a teeny bit anxious, as the field that requires "zapping" (as I like to call it) usually leads to the patient getting sick. DH is taking full advantage, informing me that homemade cookies will probably make him feel better. :)
