Biggest Loser last night

I watched a lot of TV last night. Did anyone see the Biggest Loser couples? The guy on the blue team looked awesome, but I'll bet his muscles were one of the reasons they lost. Why do they have to do a weigh-in? Why don't they measure them in inches or something instead? While I was watching him workout and saw how big his arms were getting, I said to my DH that he's going to lose because those muscles weigh so much. But he was in much better shape than the red team guy, who was probably doing all cardio. It just doesn't seem fair.

Nancy, I thought the same thing. The Red team couple were also much heavier in the first place so I think it was, in some ways, easier for them to lose a greater percentage of weight.

I think what disappointed me the most, though, was their attitudes in general. Maybe I'm too harsh a critic, but I felt that the girls especially, were immature and shallow. When given an opportunity to talk about what this experience has meant to them and how it has affected them, all they could talk about was what kind of wedding they would have. I was looking for somehting a little deeper, I guess. Maybe it's just a function of their youth and inexperience. It seemed a little cheesy to me.

I thought the guys were changed more on the inside. They had a real committment to change from the inside out that the girls didn't seem to have.

I'm awful, aren't I!?

Michele

No, Michele, you're not awful at all! The girls did seem to have more growing up to do than the guys. But I think the red team lady had a wake up call when the dr. told her that her heaviness was jepeordizing her chances of having a baby. Whatever inspired them, though, they sure were inspired! Their accomplishments were awesome. I just wish the show would concentrate more on health than just pure weight loss. I thought the blue team guy was a lot healthier looking than the red team guy, and should have received some kind of credit for doing it the right way.

Oh, I have another criticism: I think the show generally encourages too-rapid weight loss. I think they should have some sort of warning that says "don't try this at home". I mean, these people are surrounded by nutritionists, doctors and trainers and most people trying to lose weight don't have all of that. In general, slower weight loss is more permanent anyway. But it makes for good TV viewing!

I was hoping the blue team would win, but Sasha did seem too caught up in the wedding stuff IMO. I thought the girl on the red team might not stay marry for too long if she doesn't watch her mouth with her fiance...again, my opinion. I wish The Biggest Loser would have given them more time to lose more of the weight. I thought that they all still needed to lose more and I seen Sasha did, at the end, but why not give them more time so it is more dramatic and more inspiring?

Miss Nancy, I totally agree with you! The workouts are extreme, the weight losses are extreme - they should call it "Extreme Weight Loss!" I wonder how many very heavy people get an inner call to action when they say to themselves, "I can do this!"

On the regular longer series, I'm reminded of the men who were way over 300 lbs. and were forced by the trainer (Jillian, who I DO NO like!)to run up and down mountains (or really BIG hills!)
Just Do It! :)

I've only seen one episode of TBL. The family one- can anyone tell me who won that? I don't understand the format of the show, I guess.

I think expecting any woman to be on any show that is in any way related to her wedding and not talk about her wedding isn't really realistic!! But I didn't see the show- I'm sure I'd agree with you.

I found it a little strange that they didn't talk about HOW anyone was losing weight... one guy lost 22 pounds in the time at the ranch. ?!?!!? What happened to safe weight loss being 1-2 pounds a week, up to 5 pounds the first week?

They showed a spread of "The Bad Foods" for about 2 seconds, but never got into what any of them really were and why they got on that list. Seems like the show is 100% for entertainment. (Not that there's anything wrong with that!!!)

I love the special editions of this show! The girl on the blue team did seem more materialistic to me than the girl on the red team, however, especially last week when she was just DYING to eat all the wedding cakes to find the $10,000 rings! Overall, I thought the girl on the red team had a much better attitude, even though she was only 21!! I kept telling my husband that she just didn't seem like a 21 year old to me!

Overall, even with its faults, I think the Biggest Loser shows are great, because it promotes weight loss without plastic surgery, such as the Swan and Extreme Makeover. These folks really work hard!

I just want to say that Jillian is the bomb! She seems to have the winning team. Red seems to always win. I personally like her attitude and style! I would love to workout with her.

I don't remember which girl it was last week, but I was really upset with whichever one made the comment during the temptation part when the ring was inside one of the cakes. The fiance was saying "don't do it, don't eat it" and the girls response was "Do you promise to buy me a ring just like that one?" If that had been me I would have said "See you later" right then and there. I just thought that was terrible. I know that when I got married, the fact that I was marrying my husband was a heck of a lot more important to me than the size of my ring!
And I agree, that they should have been more excited about the changes they made in their life and health rather than the money for their wedding. Your wedding is only one day of your life (although an important day), but still only one day. Your health is your entire life.

Okay, I'm done rambling.:)

Katie

Katie, that was the girl on the blue team. I was utterly horrified by that and if I were her fiance I'd seriously rethink the whole marriage thing. Sometimes I think these young brides are so caught up in the "wedding" that they've actually given very little thought to what it means to be married.

The guy on the blue team was a real sweetheart, IMO. I think he was truly changed by his experience. You could tell that he was going for a lifestyle makeover, not just a temporary reduction in weight so he would look good on his wedding day.
