Bicep vein...Just curious

Since I've been lifting my forearm veins have really enlarged (the veins from my neck down to my chest too), but no sign of any bicep veins yet. Is this more of a genetic thing or will the bicep veins eventually enlarge as well. What is the medical reason for this happening? In Cathe's words "they look so cool". Just curious. Also, what happens to these enlarged veins once you stop lifting, do they actually shrink?? Hope this isn't a stupid question, I first did a search on the subject and didn't come up with anything.

This I cannot help you too much on, but I can tell you that the degree in which you experience "vascularity" and the severity of that vascularity is going to differ from individual to individual. Body fat of course matters, so your body fat must be pretty low for you to see veins popping. I think the bicep is just a bigger muscle and there is more fat around that part of the arm than on the forearm. It will probably take a little while longer. However, I have the opposite goin' on right now, a bicep vein (which only "pops" when I am working out, does this count??:) but no real vascularity in the forearms. Diet has alot to do with it as well. I don't know what would happen if you stopped working out other than eventually you would not be able to see those veins anymore because they would be hidden by fat.

Hope I was of some assistance for you. BTW.....TTR is kickin' my butt!!! I am having a hard time following it too a tee cuz I am training a few people at work and they are not quite at my level yet. Maybe after they get a little better with the weights, but I say I am doing it 90% and it is still kickin' my butt!! Going to the track tommorrow!! Hope all is well with you...

THANK YOU. And of course it counts only while working out in my book!!! Glad TTR is going well and your helping others is so very important - priceless!!! I'm loving TTR. You know some people just do awesome with cardio (I'm not one of them). I love to lift weights so this rotation is FUN FUN FUN. Must be that I'm more of a fast twitch muscle person (is that correct?) I love to lift slow and heavy. I love PH, but again have a little harder time with endurance, but I'm getting there. I did IMAX today in its entirety, that is if you don't count a few modifications. (I LOVE HOPE, it's times like that when you need someone to cave with). AND, Cathe's EXTRA encourage at about that time is immeasurable!! It really is a fun workout for a cardio that is.

You mentioned that you have to have a pretty low body fat in order for your veins to be visible. Is there a body fat tester out there for home use that is more accurate than others??? Any recommendations anyone?

Go, GO TTR. I plan on going full force next week, now that I'm seasoned ha ha. Very optimistic aren't I!!! :-jumpy

You can get calipers for home use. They are all over the internet. I purchased digital ones that will calculate everything for you, they are called "Accumeasure". You can also buy non digital ones that cost less and come with a booklet on how to measure yourself. I find it is very hard to measure yourself no matter what method you are using. DON'T get a body fat scale...those are really depressing and never seem very accurate.

I don't know. At one time I was into all that...measuring fat and blah..blah. But now, I just know whether I am losing fat or not. And those things never have a number low enough for me to be happy!!! I would just go buy your veins. If they keep popping out more and more, you know you are getting leaner and leaner!!
