BFL HALLOWEEN day

Cathlete
Good morning everybody! I'm sorry, I didn't get back online to chat more yesterday. I always plan to, but it never really happens.

To answer the question about counting calories. I do not count while doing BFL. I go strictly by portion size. And that's a HUGE change for me. I've been a Weight Watchers member for over 3 years, and I've counted points using that system for that long. But I became obsessive about all that counting. It was driving me NUTS, not to mention that I was using my points for not-so-clean foods. For instance, I had 20 pts per day, and instead of using 6 points for a tossed salad with grilled chicken and some cheese, I would eat a slice of pizza for those same points. I'm SOOOOOOO happy to only be eating my portion.

Now....having said that. I BOMBED last night. Oh my, ladies. I don't know how I let myself lose control. YUCKY food hangover this morning. I was FINE...ate all my planned meals right up to dinner. Then we went to BF's daughter's Confirmation gathering, where I had a ham/turkey wrap. Very wise choice. BUT then I had cake and 3 small cookies. I wish I could say it ended there, but it didn't. Came home, and hit the pantry. I really canNOT belive I LET MYSELF DO THAT!!!!! WHY? Sometimes I just don't understand how the switch can flick from being SOOOOO ON TARGET to being soooooo NOT ON TARGET!

BUT...today is a new day! I FORCED myself out of bed this morning, determined NOT to let last night derail me and my goals. I am getting so close to weighing in at a weight that I haven't seen in a LONG time...the 130s, and I WANT IT BADLY!

So I did this morning's lower body weight work as planned. I have all my meals planned for the day. Tonight is trick or treat, but I"m not worried about that. By the time we get back, I have had the nice fresh air to keep my head clear.

TODAY WILL BE HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gayle

Hi Gayle and Good Morning to you all,

Gayle: You'll have to check back at last nights posts for my comments on eating. I swear by this...your body must be craving the sugar from all the running you have been doing. I tend to have cravings now and then. I believe it is because my body needs something that is in that food. I mean it could be a simple craving like broccoli or that cookie but I tend to go with the flow and not go overboard.

Is this an excuse...? ;-) Anyway don't kick yourself too hard! :)

I have a feeling it is going to be a long day for me. My DD woke up late and somehow it is my fault. She also went to bed as soon as she came home from school and didn't wake up to do her homework. Again this seems to be my fault. If she had told me she needed to be woken up in an hour or so...I would have made sure she got up. I just can't keep track of what she is doing or what times she is going to make that train. I get up expecting to leave early to catch the 6am but she decides in her slummber that she won't be leaving until 8am. How does one win? So now she is working on her lab report and leaving on the 10am train. So I probably won't get to my exercise until late this afternoon. ;(

I will take the time and work on the walls in the back entrance way hall. At least I will get some sort of an upper body work out.;-)

I hope everyone has a great morning.

Gayle, I totally know what you mean about the quick switch from being so on target to so NOT on target! But it was one day and you have been doing so well these past few weeks...you've been very motivating to me!

Heidi, going back to yesterday's thread, Carl's Jr. is a fast food place like McDonald's, etc, but it is like the unhealthiest of the bunch, in my opinion. My chest hurt last night after eating it! I can only imagine how I would have felt had I not had the cup of tea. It is Eater's Diget by Traditional Medicinals and I buy it in the tea section of our local grocery store. If you have a Whole Foods in your town I know they sell them there, too. It has peppermint, fennel and ginger in it, all good for digestion. I like the taste and it works very well. In fact, even DH is willing to use it and he is NOT a tea person! If I know I'm going to eat something high in fat or something I know doesn't always sit well with me, I will have a cup of this afterwards.

Ladies, last night was a good night for me after dinner. I spent some time browsing the Cathe forums, looked at some things in my BFL book as well as my BFFM book. I got a lot of motivation and wrote out my rotation for the month of November...having it written out will make me more likely to stick to it. I will be doing Muscle Max 2x a week, LIC 1x a week, yoga 1x, and the elliptical 2x. I'll allow myself some wiggle room with the cardio but I'm going to stick to it! Then in December I am going to move on to the Gym Styles for my weights...I've never done them!

I have been wanting to get the new Eat Clean cookbook, but haven't seen it in a store. Are the recipes pretty simple? I'm not a big cook and I know I won't make them if there are a lot of ingredients or takes a bit of time.

Good morning girls!

Heidi, I fear that your post is a prophecy for me of the teenage years to come. My nine year old daughter already blames everything wrong in the world on me. I swear, I'm the stupidest person in the world to her sometimes. And yet, there are times where she can't get enough of me. What the...? I blame hormones.

Gayle, one slip up in five weeks is nothing. You're doing so well, and I'll bet your body and psyche needed to just let loose for an evening. You'll be able to recommit today with added vigor. What you said about the Weight Watchers point system is dead on; I've done the same thing. I, too, become absolutely obsessive counting points or calories, and that's what I find so attractive about BFL. But then every now and then I freak out a little (like yesterday) and wonder if I should be keeping track!! If the results seem slow or something, I lose faith and think "Oh my god, I must be eating too much!" I've been eating so clean though, and I haven't missed one workout in six weeks, so I think (?) I just need to keep the faith. That being said, I have run a tally on a few occasions, and it seems I'm in the general area of 1600 calories, sometimes more, not very often less. I'm so glad to hear that you don't count on BFL, because you're having great results, and that encourages me. Bottom line, I'll stick with the portion size method and not drive myself crazy.

Today is Halloween party day around here, and I need will power vibes. Think of me today and send 'em my way, please.

BBL~

Hi Jill,

I really like this cookbook. The recipes are pretty straight forward and have all natural ingredients. Most of which you will find at your local grocery store. Today I am going to make the apple pumpkin muffins. I tend to make several batches at a time then freeze them for later use.
Oh, I got this book on-line through Amazon. Their prices were better.

I will have to check out this tea. I love all kinds of tea anyway. Favorites include: Red Rose, Green tea by Good Earth, Mandarin Orange Spice and Sleepy Time by Celestial Seasonings.

I am still puzzled over the pumpkin soup.

Gayle: Have you made the pumpkin soup in the Tosca Reno cookbook? I made this last night but it seemed very watery compared to the pictured recipe on pg.69. I am thinking that the broth should have been 1-2 cups and the pumpkin 4 cups. What do you think?

It tasted good just the same but I think it could have been thicker some what. My kids and DH liked it so I guess that is what counts.

Hi Jen,

Thanks for the reminder that it isn't our fault that kids think we can read minds or something. :)

I am currently waiting for the grump to finish her homework and catch the 10am train. Working on moving all these plants that we brought in last night because it is starting to get too cold for them. It looks like a jungle in here. My son and I started to hum that song...In the jungle the mighty jungle...etc. It was pretty funny we both thought of this at the same time. :D He always makes me smile. Love that boy!:+

I will be thinking of you tonight as we go out. I too can't give in to trying out a few too many treats. I am going to eat before leaving and have several glasses of water. I should be so full that I can't even think about eating one more thing!
Oh, try to give out the last of the candy to that lucky late trick or treater so you don't have lots of leftovers! :D

Have a great day and workout! }(

Heidi, I think I'll go ahead and order the cookbook, then! I got some birthday money so I can use that. As for tea, I am a looseleaf tea junkie. I'll have my black tea in the morning...English high grown leaf blend, which is even better than english breakfast tea. And then during the day I'll drink something like peppermint tea (from specialteas.com) or maybe cardamon cinnamon from Republic of Teas.

I live about 45 minutes from the Celestial Seasonings factory and went on a tour of it twice this past summer. It's a neat place, has a great cafe, and the best part is the tasting room where you can sample any flavor they make. Their gift shop is pretty fun, too...lots of great tea stuff.

Pumpkin soup, you say? Sounds yummy!!!

Heidi, I'm taking my kids out trick or treating tonight, so that leaves nobody at home to hand out candy. So lucky me...I didn't even buy any this year!! Now the only temptation I have is what the kids bring home, and the're pretty possessive so I probably won't even have a choice.

And I forgot to mention that I worked out this morning (again!) so I wouldn't miss it tonight.

That pumpkin soup sounds yummy. I may have to try that with your alterations. Thanks for the tips!

Jill, I'm more of a Chai girl myself. LOVE those spices! :9

Hi Jen,

I really like getting in that workout early too! It makes the rest of the day go by easier without the worry that you might not get it in.

I am hoping to get an email back from Tosca about this pumpkin soup recipe. I just know that even with 2C.diced pumpkin it was still watery. Trial and error I guess. I will let you all know if she gets back to me.

BBL Time to get DD to train ;-)

Jen, Stash makes my favorite chai tea...I'm a bit picky about that. I will make a cup of chai from a Stash teabag (decaf for me), then mix in a packet of sugar free hot cocoa mix. It's my favorite after dinner 'sweet' when I'm trying to cut down on sugar and perfect for those cold winter nights :)

Well folks, I did MM this morning! Holy cow, I worked hard! I can just imagine the DOMS I'll get in another day or two. Thankfully, tomorrow is yoga for me so that will help.

Have a great day everyone!

Hi everyone,

I am back again!

Decided to get in my workout this morning after dropping off DD.

Did PLB with 2X 10,12,15 pounders (not as heavy as Cathe but getting there slowly)
S,J&P Abs and planks

Jill: I would love to see that Celestial Seasonings company and gift shop! It must smell incredible with all the different spices.
Now you have me wondering about that Stash chai tea. My DD loves chai tea too. Is this available in a grocery store? Would like to try to cheer her up with something different today. She gets back from college around 6 today.
Thanks again for the info.

BBL on to shower and that hallway.

Yes, Stash brand is found in a regular grocery store, Walmart, etc. The box is maroon, I believe, and they carry it in both regular and decaf. Like I said, I'm picky about the spices and I find this one to be just right (well, that's my opinion, at least :)). I don't remember the last time I drank it plain, I always mix it with hot cocoa now!

Heidi, great job on the workout!

Jill, I never thought of mixing in hot chocolate. I may try that! Sounds yummy!

OMG, I cannot tell you how torturous this day is for me. There are a few goodies here that are REAL temptations like the peanut butter m&ms and the chocolate covered pretzels. I can pass up the soda and the cookies and the doughnuts and the chips and dip no problem, but those two things are reallllly testing me. I ended up grabbing a handful of the m&ms. I had no idea that this Halloween party would be this challenging! I don't think you guys are sending me enough vibes. Come on now, where's that butt kicking we all promised each other five weeks ago? ;-)

Jen

Hey ladies!!

Thanks for your support. I am TOTALLY re-focussed today. I'm not sure exactly what demon got into me last night, but it seems to be gone now! LOL

A few things...I have not made anything out of the Tosca Reno cookbook yet. I've been using the EFL one a bunch though! GOOD STUFF!

Trick or Treat tonight. I'm not tempted by it though. And since we will be out of the house, I didn't have to buy any candy either! LOL The boys will come back tonight, go thru the loot, pick out their favorites, and the rest I will give to the garbage men next week. Gotta treat those guys well, right? LOL

UM....what else?

Heidi-I chuckled at "the grump" comment. lol As parents, we just have to sometimes nod our heads in agreement and bite our tongues at the same time, don't we? LOL

OK...I'm DYING to finish up the book that I'm reading (Tracy Chevalier's The Virgin Blue) and I've got about 35 pages left. I want to try to get it done before the bus comes!

Later, ladies!

HANG TOUGH TONIGHT!!!!!!! I WILL NOT ALLOW THE DEMON BACK IN MY HOUSE TONIGHT!!!!!!

Gayle

Hi Jen,

Thanks for the comment for getting in my workout. I am soooo glad I did. It is going to be a long night!

Oh, as for trying to get distracted from all of thoughs sweets...I put candles on that smell of pumpkin spice. Now that the scent is in the air I am not hungry for anything sweet. Maybe this would help each of us.

Limiting sweets to 2 is also a great idea even for the kids. I read this on Tosca Reno's blog last night. After tonight the kids get to pick out 2 for the day and that is it. Bowl is put away for next time. (Might have to get a quard on the bowl however... ;-) )

Jill: I went out special to pick up the two different teas. I made the chai/cocoa for my trip to pick up my son. It was really good.:9
My other son came along for the ride and had a cup too. He liked it better than the chai tea you get from DD's. Thanks for the tip.:)

Good luck and hang tight the night will come to a close hopefully soon.

BBL to see how everyone made out.

Hi Gayle,

Yes, I/we do have to have alot of patience!

I am going to try to get DD with some spice tea when she comes home. Maybe she will cheer up a bit. I realize that school is tough especially when you are going FT, training the new Doctors (which should know how to do some of this stuff by now) and work a catering job all at once. She is just plain wiped out.

I told her that she needs to make a decision to cut back on something. The internship comes first to mind because she isn't getting paid. I have a feeling that they would be calling her back in and offering her a paid position if they loose her.

Have a great night.

OK Girls,

It has been a long time since I've been on.I missed y'all. MY husband and I celebreated our anniversary by going away for several days. It was such a needed rest and I enjoyed it. Of course, the whole diet went out the window but I'm back.

I did upper today using PUB, Then did some pilates/yoga and 45 minutes of stretching. It felt so good. I now remember that it should have been a leg day.See, that's what happens when I don't stay in touch.

Hey, I've been wanting to order that book by Tosca and was wondering if they sell it at Barnes and Noble.I just might go tonight to buy it.

Veronika

Hey Veronika!

Nice to hear your back.

The book is available at Barnes and Noble but it is a little more expensive than on-line at Amazon.com.

She has the original book with loads of information about eating clean. The other is her cookbook. Both are great resources.

Welcome back and we will all be back in the morning or so to check-in.

Have a great night. :)

Hey, Veronika! NICE to have you back! I'm glad you and DH enjoyed yourselves....well deserved!

OK...I'm done for the night! I'm posting right now to stay accountable! I stuck 100% to my plan today...all clean eating, no candy, no extra anything! We did T-or-T and I'm BEAT! The kids have TONS of candy, but I'm willing myself to stay away from it till Sunday for Free Day......NOT A NIBBLE!

Good night! I've got HIIT on tap tomorrow, and I'm debating between an IMax and the treadmill....will decide in the AM (although I'm leaning toward IMax 2).
