BFL-ers Workout specific ? pls..

hi!

i just started the bfl program this past week, and so far am seeing encouraging results. :)

my question is regarding the workout portion of the program. i've been using cathe's PUB/PLB and IMAX 1&2. i did a search and noticed that alot of people do something similar, :) but i was wondering specifically regarding the 'rest periods' between sets (do you take a one minute rest b/t cathe's sets? and....do you alter the number of reps to stick specifically to the bfl program?)

also, i'm a bit confused regarding muscle endurance for the bfl program. i know bfl focuses on the high intesity points in the workouts, (maxing out '10' intensity) but can that be achieved via a tape like ME, or PH ?? does it have to be heavy weights and specifically a pyramid style , or can the high intensity point be reached via lighter weights and more reps, too??? (ME is crying out to me! ;) )

i also ordered S&H...i've been hesitant up to now, afraid that it would bulk me up, but so far with PUB/PLB haven't had that problem, so went ahead and ordered it. anybody use S&H with bfl, too?

gee, sorry for all the questions...but after one week with bfl, i "seem" to notice a difference with my body..and i've exercised for over 20 plus years religiously without this much marked success.

i realize alot of it has to do with weights and maxing out with a 10 effort. but i just want to better understand the whole 'building and repairing muscle' ..larger muscle...more fat burning/metabolism concept, ( :p boy, that was a mouthful! lol) and want to know if it has to be with "heavy weights" or if i can exhaust the muscle through endurance type workouts, and get the same positive, fat burning results??

oh, and can i do power yoga (b.kest) on my free day? or would that compromise my muscle rebuilding/rest time?

phew! thank you for your patience in reading my ramblings and questions.

any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

thank you!

I did about my first 10-14 weeks of BFL by the book for weights and used IMAX and Intense Moves for Cardio. By then all my tapes were calling out to me! Then I did S/H for 4 weeks, I've also done PUB/PLB for 4 weeks. Both of them work great with BFL.

I think Yoga is ok on your off day. I still occasionally do a Taebo tape on one of my weight days and we talk the dogs for about 2 mile hikes one day on the weekend. I also do abs or pilates a few times a week.

I saw great results with BFL. I lost about 2" the first time in my hips, abs and belly. Then was in two minor car accidents, and am now just getting back into it. Within the first 6 weeks, I lost the same 2" in my abs and belly and the 1" I gained in my hips.

I don't think the endurance workouts will get you the same results as BFL. But I think you can still get results with those workouts.

Thank you, Colleen! :) your response was really helpful.

btw, do you take 'rest periods/breaks' b/t cathe sets on pub/plb and s&h??

thank you!!!

Oops, I remember thinking I had answered that part...brain not awake yet!!! When I use the videos, I just follow the video. You probably could keep pausing the tape, but I'm one of those people short on patience and I'd probably drive myself crazy :) Sometimes for cardio I will use MIC or a Taebo tape and use the minute counter on the vcr, but it's just too much work that way :) Hope this helps some!

I have done BFL twice....but neither one of them did I finishx( I am so bad with not sticking to stuff.MAkes me sick! The first time, the cheat days got the best of me.In the meantime I don't know why I didn't stick with it b/c I to saw amazing fat loss in just one week.
The second time, I wasn't fully dedicated to begin with, so that was my downfall.
The first time I did it I just used weight lifting videos b/c I can't train on my own. I need motavation and I get bored. But i did do the 20 min runs which I thought were awesome b/c I was done for he day after 20 min.
The second time I tried it, I did the Pyramid System.Sometimes I use to follow the video to a T, and other times I would just do the first 3 sets with her and then I would up my weight again,(like the book tells you to) by the time I was finished Cathe was finished.Took the same amount of time.
My personnal opinion is.....as long as you are working out (in general) and following the meal plan you are going to see results.I think alot of the results come from following the healthy meal plan.It only amounts to about 1200-1500 cals a day.
Reading this inspires me to try it again but I just started the July rotation. Then that means that I never finished the July rotation either! See what I mean!
Good LUck,
Lori

Hi,
I am considering doing the BFL program again. I am still down the 9-10 pounds from the first time. I won't start til next Monday because we will be out of town in Chicago this coming weekend for the Nascar races and I doubt there will be good food to eat : )
Anyway, if anyone wants to join in again with a weekly thread I would love it. It really helped last time.

I started the program last time doing it by myself with watching TV but then half way through I started using PUB/PLB. I always did the 20-30 minutes of cardio the BFL way. I did see there is a new cardio called Guerilla cardio that was outlined in Muscle Media. It goes like this

Minute 1-4 warm up at 50% exertion
Minute 5-8 doing 20 second sprints with 10 second rests
Minute 9-12 cool down at 50% exertion.

I tried it this morning but I think I need to up the speed of my sprints. 12 minutes just didn't seem like enough for me so I will most likely go back to the 20-25 minutes BFL cardio.

Anyone want to join in the next round of BFL? I plan to start on Monday, July 14. That should take me to about the time Cathe's new videos come out.

Rhonda
