Best walking and running shoes for overpronation

Hey guys,

I have a problem with my feet turning inward and need a shoe that is good for aerobics and running. I have heard of a tennis shoe that has a bar that keeps the foot from rolling inward. Has anyone heard of that?

I appreciate any help you can give me!

hi kim,

i am an overpronator, and had orthotics made for running. i dont use them for aerobics. avias work well for me. for running, a good stability or motion control shoe should work. the type and brand really depend on your foot. i like mizuno, brooks, and asics, but not all there styles work for me. you have to go to a running store and let them check out your feet. then try on as many as you can. you will know the right pair when you have them on. i also alternate with at least two pairs of running shoes.

I use Brooks running shoes for this problem.

Please accept that you will need to buy two pairs of shoes: one for aerobics and one for running. Each sport places different stresses upon the feet, joints, body and therefore requires different support and cushioning in the shoes and in different places. Your body will thank you for not short changing it with a "one size fits all" approach.

Rykas are excellent for aerobics and kickboxing. They are what Cathe and crew always wear.

I am a severe overpronator with hypermobility in my ankle joints and EXTREMELY narrow feet. For running (I run a marathon each year) I wear new balance shoes with custom orthotics made by my podiatrist. I have been wearing the new balance 850's series since they first came out (i.e. 857 is the current model, 856 was its predecessor, etc), and I have not had problems with my knees. You should try going to a specialty running store like the Running Room or a New Balance store where they will assess your feet and watch you run in several different shoes to make sure you get the one that gives the most appropriate support for your foot type.

Good luck!!!
