Best Combination of Weight Plates

Calling all barbell owners!

I know it varies based on individual fitness level, but what have you found is the best combination of weight plates?

And for those of you who own one of Cathe's new pyramid workouts, which combination have you found is the most practical for routines of this nature?

Here's a fun scenario to help you answer the question:

Say someone were to come into your home and confiscate all but a handful of your weight plates. I know it's a frightening thought, but hey, it could happen, so you better have a plan in the event that it does! So anyway, which ones would you hold on to?

OOOOHHH! Nobody better touch my weights! I'll shoot first, ask questions later. LOL Anyway, I guess I'd hold on to my 1.25, 2.5 & 5 lbers. I haven't reached a level to use my 10 lb plates yet, so I can do without & go buy more when I'm ready. LOL

I'd say get two tens, two 5's, and several 2 1/2's. This way, you can adjust your barbell in smaller increments when needed.

Cathe uses 25, 30, 35, 40(? - not sure about the 40), lb barbells in Pyramid Lower Body. They actually use "real" time to change the plates -- i.e. you're changing your plates at the same time they're changing their's. Put your heavier plates on first, then your lighter plates.

If some uninvited person came into my apartment, I'd club him with my barbbell. Funny, I had a nightmare about an intruder last night -- hope this isn't an omen!

I love all my plates equally! :p

I've got 4 10's, which are nice for Muscle Endurance because she holds a plate a lot, 2 5's and 2 2 1/2's.

What kind of barbell is used in the Intensity Series? I want a second bar and this looks good.

I like the following combo: two 10# plates, 4 5# weights, 4 2.5 # weights, 2 1.25# weights. If you figure out beforehand what weights you need on your barbell for various exercises, you can load up the first weight, taking care to use the smaller plates that will allow you to quickly change weights. For example, if you need 40#, then 35", then 30#, set up your bar so that you can easily take off first 5" (two 2.5# weights) then another 5# (two more 2.4# weights). Keeps you from having to juggle weights so much.

What wonderful responses!! And boy, some of you gave me a good laugh with your comments regarding what YOU would DO to the intruder (hit 'em with your barbell, etc) :7

I have NO doubt that any intruder who targets a Cathe-user's home will regret it!!

Thanks again for your input!

Amy, Wal-Mart - $19.99

Cathe used the $19.99 barbell set (up to 50 lbs) from Wal-Mart. I may just get it too!

Blessings from our home to yours...Runathon
