Best CC for running outside

Worknprogress

Cathlete
Hey everyone - I've been off the boards for a while and just picked running back up since everything seems to be "healed."

I am looking for a good interval running program to do outside. I have for years, before all of my injuries, just run to my IPod, walkman, or whatever but I think I could really benefit from a program for interval running.

I started back running a few weeks ago and am doing HIIT running twice a week but of course there is no "program" for true HIIT running. I also do one tempo run and one endurance run which leaves me two more times a week for running which I would like to do a regular interval run of about 45 minutes.

I don't normally just do all running for cardio, even though it is my favorite cardio. It just isn't something I can do year round due to weather and right now, early morning has incredible running conditions right now.

Will CC fit my needs for this interval run I am talking about and if so, which one?

Thanks!

For outdoor running, I'd go with 5, 7, and 8. I don't (usually) have a prob w/ the hill section b/c my neighborhood has plenty of hills. Funny, I never notice them so much when walking, but I do when running. If I am at a "hill" in the program and I don't have a real hill, I will normally just go with a sprint or a pace that matches the exertion level I'm supposed to be at. When I take CC outside, I normally power walk the steady state/recoveries, and run the intervals.

Cardio Coach would be a great choice for you! Volumes 5 and 7 were designed with the runner in mind and have a little faster tempo than some of the other workouts. I believe Volume 4 is also popular and one of my good friends likes to alternate between 4 and 7 for her outdoor runs. I just started running and Volumes 1 and 2 are perfect for me.

The other great thing about CC is that you can customize the workouts to suit your tastes and/or needs. Sean had the good sense to put each segment on a separate track so you can mix and match challenges from the various workouts to make your own mish moshes! :D

If you go to the CC store and click on a workout you can see the complete breakdown and interval structure. HTH :)

Nan, you can run to Volume 8!!?!? That totally scares me!! :p :D

Yup, but it ain't a pretty picture. The last half of the last challenge is beastly. The only thing that keeps me moving on that one is that every step gets me one step closer to home, the shower, and the couch!!:p

I need a cardio for tomorrow morn. I was thinking a steady run, but maybe I'll pop this one in. Hmmmmm..... Let's hope for a good snooze tonight.

I just did Volume 5 for the first time a little while ago. I really like how the challenges were grouped, kind of like doing all the exercises for a body part in a group before you move on. I did it on the treadmill, though, not outside.

I chuckled when I heard in the Coach's Notes that he is part Italian, along with his Irish last name. I had the Italian maiden name to go along with my Irish blood, as well. I knew there was a reason I like him so much!:p

I wanted to buy Volume 4 today, but the prices went back up to $14.95! :( :( :(
Shannon, he had them on sale for several months at, what I thought, was a ridiculously low price. He might as well have been giving them away . I truly believe his workouts are worth every cent he's asking for them. The quality of his audio workouts is on par with Cathe's DVD's -- they're THAT good! He pays a lot of attention to detail, and he uses original music that, just like STS, was composed and scored to fit the workout. Also, unlike the iTrain workouts, when he says an interval is going to last for 2 minutes, it lasts for EXACTLY 2 minutes, not 3 minutes or 2 1/2 minutes. And the workouts are complete with a warm-up and cool down, and some include a stretch segment, too. I think the price is very fair when you consider what all you're getting. They are the best on the market for audio guided workouts, and like Cathe, he has the right to ask for a higher price because he's giving you a better product than his competitors. ;)

Yeah I agree they are awesome! I'm just sad because I can't really afford that right now, I lost my job, story of everyones life right! haha. I'll gladly pay it though when I can!

Oh Shannon, I'm so sorry! I didn't realize. So many people have been hit hard by this economy :(. I will keep you in my prayers and I hope that things turn around for you quickly.

Nancy, I'm Italian so I was thrilled to find out that he is, too, on his mother's side. I can't remember when or where I heard it, or the circumstances under which the remark was made, but I recall him saying something about his mom coming after him with the wooden spoon (i.e. the sauce spoon), and it cracked me up! My grandmother and mother both had such a spoon -- LOL!!!

It was my grandfather who had the spoon -- married to my Irish grandmother. When they argued we hid! ;-)
