Best approach to Core Max

Saker

Cathlete
Hi

I recently bought Core Max and did the first segment tonight. In the intro Cathe says the sections get harder by the addition of the stability ball and then the weight. I wondered how other people approached it? Did you wait to master the first segment fully before attempting the second and then the third or do you alternate between each segment or just stick to a favourite one?

Thanks Ruth

I alternate them . If it was a really hard one . I keep the remote beside me. I pause for a minute and get my bearings, then continue.
It does get easier...
#3 is the hardest. I find 3 the easiest.I am wierd.
Now i rarely pause, unless my abs are on fire.
It is a great workout.

I agree with Anne. I really don't think one is harder than the other, they are all just different, imo.

I will be honest, I never watch the introductions, so until I read this I didn't even know that they were supposed to be progressive!:7

I always do 2 sections, & segment 3 is always one of the two. Usually it's sec. 2 & 3, but sometimes I'll do sec. 1.

I used to do 2 & 3 in sequence, but recently I tried 3 first & then moved on to #2. It was much better--I found that things like rocket shoots, which are SO hard, are much better to do before your abs are too fatigued to use good form & get an effective workout.

Thanks for the comments - it's interesting to hear the different views. I have only tried segment 1 so far which I didn't find too bad (except the levitation lifts and planks - aggh) but then most of those exercises are more standard ab work. I am sure I will find the stability ball more challenging because I find everything on the stability ball hard. Perhaps I will do the whole of segment 1 then practice parts of the other segments until I can put them all together.

I love the pre-mixes on this DVD. I love ab work anyway.

Hint for those levitation holds - get a couple of yoga blocks and place one on each side of you and push down on the blocks (lie the blocks horizontal). This is a yoga pose and boy is it hard. After you work up to doing it with the blocks, you'll be able to do it without them - at least that worked for me.;)

Thanks for the tip about the levitation holds. How much do you think that core strength contributes to your ability to do that and how much is in the arm strength?

Ruth

I have no problem doing the levitation holds, and I don't think that's because I'm particulary strong in either area--it's just the way my body is built. So, strength in one area may be a contributing factor in mastering these, but it isn't the only factor :)

I also wanted to mention that I don't think the segments in Core Max get progressively harder. Just mix them up, and use the premixes, and you should be fine.

Ruth - I think arm strength does play a role. Also, I agree that anatomy has a lot to do with this pose. Also, try different foot placing - it is easier to do in half or full lotus but if you can't get into that pose, just do it they way they do it in the DVD.

Well with the levitation pose I take comfort in the fact that Brenda is cracking up laughing at the back not being able to get up there either :7 . Either way I will try the other sections on Core Max and see how I get on. Thanks for the comments everyone!

Ruth,
I just want to say that I also started with the first segment and stuck to that for a while, thinking I wasn't ready for the next segment. However, segment one was too hard on my neck and I'm finding segment 2 to be more fun and less straining on my neck. I can't do the whole thing from beginning to end, but I don't mind. I just do what I can do for now, and still get a great core workout.
