Ben Stein Correction-Sorry For The Angst

Cathlete
It was brought to my attention that my previous post involved part of a commentary that was in fact NOT Ben Stein. After researching what Mr. Stein actually wrote here ya go. Take it or leave it.Got it straight off his web site. Sorry for any misunderstanding, I should have done my homework obviously. It just kinda nice discussing things other than diet and exercise sometimes, sorry for any fires I started, but than again, I do catch my sweet potatoes/marshmallows on fire ever Thanksgiving!

Peace out.

Herewith at this happy time of year, a few confessions from my beating heart:

I have no freaking clue who Nick and Jessica are. I see them on the cover of People and Us constantly when I am buying my dog biscuits and kitty litter. I often ask the checkers at the grocery stores. They never know who Nick and Jessica are either. Who are they? Will it change my life if I know who they are and why they have broken up? Why are they so important? I don't know who Lindsay Lohan is, either, and I do not care at all about Tom Cruise's wife.

Am I going to be called before a Senate committee and asked if I am a subversive? Maybe, but I just have no clue who Nick and Jessica are. Is this what it means to be no longer young. It's not so bad.

Next confession: I am a Jew, and every single one of my ancestors was Jewish. And it does not bother me even a little bit when people call those beautiful lit up, bejeweled trees Christmas trees. I don't feel threatened. I don't feel discriminated against. That's what they are: Christmas trees. It doesn't bother me a bit when people say, "Merry Christmas" to me. I don't think they are slighting me or getting ready to put me in a ghetto. In fact, I kind of like it. It shows that we are all brothers and sisters celebrating this happy time of year. It doesn't bother me at all that there is a manger scene on display at a key intersection near my beach house in Malibu. If people want a creche, it's just as fine with me as is the Menorah a few hundred yards away.

I don't like getting pushed around for being a Jew and I don't think Christians like getting pushed around for being Christians. I think people who believe in God are sick and tired of getting pushed around, period. I have no idea where the concept came from that America is an explicitly atheist country. I can't find it in the Constitution and I don't like it being shoved down my throat.

Or maybe I can put it another way: where did the idea come from that we should worship Nick and Jessica and we aren't allowed to worship God as we understand Him?

I guess that's a sign that I'm getting old, too. But there are a lot of us who are wondering where Nick and Jessica came from and where the America we knew went to.

Hey tneah,

You didn't start any fires. It is nice to discuss things other than diet and exercise on this site. Watch out for those marshmallows...they're dangerous! :+

There's nothing to apologize for, but thanks for posting the actual comments. I loved both versions myself :7

Wait. Did I miss something? I didn't see any fires and I didn't think the post controversial. Hopefully you didn't read too much into my comment, which was meant in the pure silliness that I am known for. ;-)

No, it wasn't you Beavs, of course not! I look forward to reading your comments, you are a riot. It was something else that happened "off the record". So I felt I needed to make it right with the correct commentary. Thats all:)

Beavs, you really didn't think the post was controversial? It was about separation of church and state and the last time a very similar, if not identical, thread was posted on these boards it caused quite an outcry. I believe it was finally locked or deleted. I was amazed to see it appear here again, and sent a PM to tneah, trying to avoid another public debate.

(But if anyone wants to debate this issue, bring it. }( There are few topics closer to my heart than the separation of church and state in America. That, freedom of speech and a democratic government alone distinguish this country from the frightening fascism we see in so many other countries).

ETA: Thanks, tneah, for correcting the quote.

*GASP* Oh for crying out loud!! I loved it, and I love Beavs wackiness, too :p

I do believe it is a controversial topic Nancy and glad to know you were the sender of the PM (as opposed to someone who lacks your class and pizazz) but I didn't find it narrow minded like the other post I'm thinking of, which may or may not be the same to which you refer. Or maybe you just caught me on a good day. I try to shy away from the more intellectual topics for fear of getting my head bit off and stick to the silly comments. ;-)

ETA
HO HO HO HO! :7

You are very kind, Beavs. Yup, I was the Angster. :p And hey, if I were as hilariously funny as you are, I'd stick to the funny stuff too. ;)
