Belly piercing migrated

Shoot!

After all these years of having a piercing it finally decided to migrate through the skin. I had to take the jewelry out. Now it is closed completely. I won't do it again, because it is a hassle and it could happen once again anyway. Besides who ever heard of a 56 year old grandma having a body piercing. I better grow up.

Anyway, what do I do with all the jewelry? I spent a lot of money and still want to use the jewelry. Can't sell it, it's been used. I know I can put them on clothing, that's cool. I even tried to make necklaces out of them, but because of the banana shape, it doesn't want to stay around the neck straight. Any other suggestions on using the jewelry?

Be creative,

Why can't you sell them? They could be sterilized : piercing places should have autoclaves that could do that, and they might buy them from you. Just a thought.

Love your little kitty with ears and whiskers.

Thanks for the suggestion and answering my dumb post. Autoclaving is a great idea to resell the jewelry. I think that's what I will do. Also I was bored and decided to post in hopes to bring out the creativeness in people. It was more for fun than anything else.

Take care,

Janie,

What do you mean that the piercing "migrated" through the skin? I've had mine pierced for about 10 years and your post has me a little freaked out!

Found this on the web, it describes me and my piercings.

How to Determine if Your Piercing is Migrating

Because migration is a very slow process that can take weeks or months, it may be difficult for you to know for sure if your piercing is actually changing. Here are some of the symptoms of migration:

Constant soreness and sensitivity

The skin over the piercing is thin enough to see the jewelry through it

The jewelry hangs differently, more loosely than it used to

The hole around the piercing appears larger

The skin between the piercing gets smaller after awhile

I should also mention that a lot of sources will tell you that migration will only happen to relatively new piercings, but this is not always the case. In my own personal experience, I have had all three of my rejected piercings migrate after they were four years old. That seems to be a limit that my body has determined for foreign objects and after that length of time it says, "Time to go!" So, even well-established, healed piercings can reject.

I would love to have another one done, but I know eventually it will migrate again. I was hoping a third time a charm, but no, it wasn't going to be.

This doesn't happen very often to most people, so I wouldn't be too concerned.

Enjoy your piercings, I'm going to miss mine.

Ive been a little concerned at times that mine might do the same. In the beginning there was a large peice of skin there to hold my jewerly. It did get infected but I was patient and waited it out. When it was infected, in looked as if there were a pimple right in the middle of the peircing. While I was in the tub one night I started to pick at it, (im a picker) and (sorry if this is gross) but is popped just like a pimple would and it healed after that. Thats when the hole started to get smaller and I thought it would work its way out, instead it stopped right where the infection had started. Its been this way for 3 yrs now so Im hoping its as small as its gonna get. The skin is still pretty thick though so I don't think I will have any problems. And if it does grow out then thats all I can do about that, right?

Ha! I think we totally changed the subject. You wanted to know what to do with your jewelry and we started swapping stories!
At times I feel like I should take mine out. I did it first cause I really liked it and DH thought it was "o.k" Now after having a baby he kind of doesn't think its appropriate anymore! Tough titty I say! Get use to it buster! I paid $60 for this and Im gonna keep it for a little while yet! LOL

Very interesting topic... I never really thought about it but Janie you are correct, our bodies usually naturally "push" any foreign object out of the body so why wouldn't it always push out a belly ring that someone keeps in 24/7?

I've had mine since I was 20, so 10 years now & just glanced at it b/c of this thread and the skin amount looks the same as it did ten years ago. I have no feeling in my belly button- you can pull on the ring pretty hard & can't feel a thing but still have same amount of skin there...

I did accidentially put my arm through a glass door once when I was 18 & went to emergency room to have glass removed & 15 stitches put in- about 2 weeks later I was sitting eating lunch w/ a friend & felt something poking through my skin- went back to the doc & they pulled out about a 3 inch piece of glass that was missed!! It was too far down but my body pushed it out... so does make you wonder why it doesn't do the same to my belly ring.... any ideas from the wonderful information resource here??? :)
