Beat the Winter Blues - weekend of 2/28

Hi Sabine, Joy, ShyWolf, Lorihart, Lorisax, Elizabeth, Lisa, Brenda, Elizabeth, Tracy and Stacy...

Anyone up for a weekend edition?

Yesterday I did CTX All Step without the step and kept the moves low. I had to do it TWICE just to feel the workout. Then I did PLB floorwork -- TWICE -- again, just to feel it. I am so used to high intensity workouts that whatever I have to do to preserve my knees these days feels so lame. All this, and I was barely sweating.

This morning was KPC, and the only time I jumped was during the combos. I kept my squats from getting too low. Since there was a lot of punching and jabbing, I felt really worked out, unlike yesterday. Finished it off with the ab work in KPC and SJP. Felt good.

Have great workouts this weeked, everyone.

Good Morning everyone,

This morning decided to do a new-to-me Cathe workout, Circuit Max. Oh my goodness!!!!! This is one amazing workout. By the time I was done I didn't have a dry stitch on me. And even though I was using very light weights my arms are very tired. This is so much more intense than Cardio and Weights, although I think I prefer the weight work in C&W to Circuit Max. I'm beat and am quite pleased that I got through this one.

Pinky- glad to hear that you are taking care of your knee even though I can hear the frustration in your post about wanting to push yourself to get a better workout. It's such a fine line and balancing act. How much longer before you start lifting for the lower body again and adding some more impact?

Shywolf- saw your thread about whether or not to get the new DVD's before the presale is up. How about just getting one of the beginner/intermediate and the advanced one? IMO, the second and third DVD's sound remarkably similiar. I imagine it would be fairly easy to either increase the intensity for DVD2 or decrease the intensity of DVD3 and wind up with the same workout. Just my two cents.

I am contemplating getting the high step and a couple more of Cathe's DVD's (then I'll have almost everything on DVD). I got a small bonus at work and that could finance this. The fiscally responsible thing would be to put it in savings and yet what fun is that? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Hello to everyone else. Hope to 'see' you around this weekend!

Hello everyone! Been busy with Mr. Cat who absolutely refused to give a sample to the vet- even though his bladder was really full- talk about bladder control!:p He's doing better now and is on a round of antibiotics. Yesterday did TS5- man love these workouts!:)

Pinky- how's your knee? I can certainly understand a little apprehension about using them again in your normal routine- just take it a bit at a time and listen to your body. I know you enjoy kickboxing so I'm glad to hear that you had a great workout and you feel *mah-velous*!:)

Sabine- congrats on getting through Circuit Max! Especially since you just got back on a solid food diet. You rock, girl!:)

Shywolf- think you're right to go with your first instincts to forgo the new DVD's and instead treat yourself to a new wardrobe and the troylites (love mine and you'll get such great use out of them in your other workouts!). It's hard to decide sometimes, isn't it? Do what feels right for you.

Lisa- hope you're feeling better. Colds are so hard to shake sometimes. Please take care of yourself and I hope you can get back to your workout routine as soon as possible. I know I miss it when I'm sick, too...

Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend and workouts! Hellos to Brenda, Lori, Tracy and Joy!

Hello everyone!

It's good to be back posting again. Since my last post, either Monday or Tuesday, I really got sick. I was in bed for three days, with a sinus infection/bronchitis, and then an extremely intense migraine yesterday. I'm on biaxin for the sinus infection etc, and can't take my migraine medicine (Relpax) when I'm on that antibiotic. Relpax works wonders for me, but I guess I need to get another migraine medication, just in case. I don't know if my migraines are worse now that I'm getting older, or if it's just a sharp contrast because I know I can get rid of them if I can just take the medication.

I think I got sick because I was run down from my son being in the hospital at the beginning of February. He was in for five days with viral meningitis. I was with him the whole time except for a few hours one day, and although I wouldn't have been anywhere else, it wasn't conducive to getting any real rest. I think I can back to fast and hard, and my body just put on the breaks. Anyway, today I just did a 30 minute Tamilee Webb stretching video. I hope to progress to either yoga or pilates tomorrow, and pretty much stick to that until next weekend. I have to go to Texas Wed-Fri (I might actually get to meet Pinky! How cool is that!). Anyway, I'm goig to finally try to use some common sense and take it easy for a week or so, but it's going to be hard!

Pinky, I'm glad you were able to do KPC today. I'm sure that your legs appreciate you're taking it easy, even though it's hard to do when you're used to doing more.

Elizabeth, thank you so much for your well wishes. I really appreciate it!

Sabine, Joy, Lorihart, Lorisax, Brenda, Tracy and Stacy, hello! (I'm cheating off Pinky's list, although she has Elizabeth twice. Do we have two Elizabeths? If so, I'm sorry, I'm still learning about everyone!)

Hope you all are well!

Hi Everyone,
Im late checking in.I worked all day and I just got home from my in-laws house where I had stew and dessert.:9 It wasn't my kind of dessert but I ate it anyway. Now I feel very bloated:eek: I don't know if it is a sign of pms or I just ate to much.
I don'r know if I will workout tonight.I am sort of not in the mood and wating wasn't to bad today. When eating is bad I sort of feel like I have to workout.
Anyway,I will be around tomorrow morning.I have been so lazy the last couple of nights.I am ready for bed now and it is only 7:30
Lori:)

Hi all;

What a day it has been LOL

I've decide to hold off once again on preordering those new dvds and until reviews/clips are out. It was very hard ...but I got my senses back.

Instead I plan on ordering some wax to make some more candles, this time votives. My house is going to smell lovely :) I enjoy pouring wax and playing with blending oils and colors. Fun , fun plus after pouring I end up smelling like the oil I poured ...yummy.

Didn't workout today I was still feeling zapped from this week we'll see how Sunday fares. I plan on ordering just the troy lite bar as I already have enough plates . Plan on ordering it sometime this week. Plus I'll be picking up some new pants soon too. I love the fact that I've lost over 20 lbs so far but my clothes are just hanging ...lol I can actually see my hip bone again. Yay for WW and Cathe, this soon to be 37 year old mommy is gonna rock this summer!

Thanks all for letting me share :)

Hi Everyone,
I didn't workout last night.I was just to lazy. But I did keep moving until the fullness went away.I tidy the house a little and cleaned my floors. Then we watched a movie and episodes of Will and Grace(I got the first season for christmas)
I got up early today and I was working out by 9.I did Supersets,1/2 of K,P&C and a 40 min run.
Shywolf-I am really interested in this flex points system.I am still trying to find something.:-( My mind goes all over the place.I guess I am one of those people who always says they are going to do something and never does it.Funny thing is...I hate those kinds of people:) I was thinking about starting the BFL program this week but that means I have to go get groceries and I am not totally excited about it.And I really think that when you are about to do something you need to be really motivated, and I am not. Then last night I went and got my South Beach Diet book out...put it on the coffee table and that it where it is to now:eek: To lazy to read and I would be even lazier if I had to give up my carbs.I don't need to lose very much.I am at 129 now and I would like to be 120.I am 5'4".I guess I am just at that last couple of pounds that are harder to lose and I am beating myself up for it.I also have a major sweet tooth and lately an ability to over eat! Anyway I was just wondering what it was all about.I understand the WW points system in general but haven't got a clue about the new flex points.
Anyhoo,must get go'in...
Thanks,
Lori

Good Morning all,

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend thus far. Anyone else going to stay up and watch the Oscars? I'm looking forward to it myself.

This morning did Gay Gaspers 2KO1 Step and Strike workout. I opted for this one instead of KPC or CTX Kickbox because I thought it would be easier. While the choreography is not that complicated I really through myself into the kickbox segments and got completely sweaty anyway. So much for me thinking I'd have an 'easy' workout. Felt great!

Shywolf- Congratulations on the 20+ pounds weight loss. Yes, new clothes are definitely in order. Gotta show off what you've been working so hard for. ;)

Lisa- Sorry to hear that you got so sick. Hopefully you are on the mend now and can slowly get back into your routine.

Lorihart- Excellent workout this morning!

With Cathe not having a March rotation I will definitely be doing my own tank top arms/beach butt rotation. If anyone else wants to join in I also posted it in the rotations forum. I'm hoping my limbs don't fall off while doing the rotation.

Big 'holas' to Brenda, Joy, Elizabeth, Pinky, Lorisax, and Tracy.

Hi all...

Lisa, we only have one Elizabeth. I didn't notice I listed her twice.:) I hope you're feeling better these days, and so are your boys. I'm looking forward to seeing you in Las Colinas. We used to live in that area, so driving there won't be a problem.

Elizabeth, my knees are feeling better. Thanks for asking. I still feel this vague soreness around my kneecaps when I go up and down the stairs but it's no longer as bad as before. It's not the area in or under my kneecaps that are sore, but the area AROUND them. I think I have ligaments there have been needing rest. I read your posts in the kickboxing thread on the DVD forum, and am encouraged by your story about how years of martial arts kept your knees so strong that your injury wasn't as bad as expected. When the BB DVD's were released, I shelved my Billy Blanks DVD's. Time to dust them off then. I am very intrigued by the way Blanks teaches you to contract all your muscles as you hold one leg in the air, and keep that position with all your strength and balance INTACT so that no one can knock you over even though you only have one leg on the ground.

ShyWolf, I think you made a good choice. You definitely need new clothes, and a Troy Lite bar is also a great purchase. I don't regret mine. Those candles aren't a bad idea either. So you can work out using your Troy Lite bar, then soak in a warm bath with your candles, then dress yourself in your new wardrobe.:)

Lorihart, it's okay to be lazy for a while. It's another rainy day here in DFW and all I want to do is curl up in bed with my son, although he's so high-energy, and I know that'd just bore him.:) I'm also guessing that once you cut out the sugar, those extra pounds will slowly vanish one by one. I notice that if I eat sweets and starches, I get really bloated around my waist. Too much of these and then it all goes down to my hips!}(

Sabine, I'll do your rotation with lots of tweaking, due to my knee issues. I know the first week of March is upper body/arms, so I'm doing one more S&H rotation. If I can do chest/back tomorrow, and shoulders/bi/tri on Wednesday, maybe I can end the week with CTX-UB. We'll see. S&H is mean and requires extra rest days.:)

Not so sure what I want to do today. I'll decide later.

Hellos to Lorisax, Brenda, Tracy, Stacy and Joy.

Pinky-I thought about just "cutting back" (always seemed to work before) and laying off of the sugar and carbs after 3 ish say? I wonder would that make any difference. All of the low carb diets say that the weight usually comes off of your mid section so there must be some truth to it.
I made some banana bread just now.And now I am feeling sleepy. But I can't relax yet.The little one has to be picked up from gymnastics in a few minutes.I will check in later.

Good Afternoon everyone!

It's a beautiful sunny day here after a few days of cold sleet-like rain- brrr...:) so this is so welcome and appreciated. No workout today or yesterday for that matter. Right now I'm doing M-F and taking the weekends off, seems to work well for me. Though when I see Cathe on Fittv or I come here I get the *itch* to throw on my gear and get moving:p . You guys motivate me!

Lisa- I'm sorry to hear how sick your son was. It must have been a terribly rough time for you and your family. I hope he is doing much better now. And stress can play such havoc with your health and resistence- I think you're smart to ease back into working out. BTW, have a great trip to TX and hope you get to meet Pinky.

Pinky- I think it's good you gave your knees a break and that they're responding to the rest (though not as fast as you'd like, I'm sure...:) ). The rest definitely helped my knee heal quicker.
Billy Blanks is wonderful, isn't he? You're right, when you kick and punch, you also utilize your core muscles for both power and balance in addition to conditioning the legs and upper body muscles. You can also do slow concentrated front kicks to help build more strength in the muscles surrounding the knee- hold on to a wall or chair for balance. Keep your standing leg's knee soft (slightly bent) whenever you kick (fast or slow) so you don't hyperextend it. Take good care, sweetie. I'm thinkin' about ya'! BTW, how's the *houseguests* situation? Psst.. are they gone yet?... (hushed whisper here);)

Shywolf- congrats on your weight loss. Way to go girl! By all means, go out and treat yourself to a new wardrobe and show off that terrific bod!:) Also enjoy your new *toys*!

Sabine- so good to hear you're feeling really GOOD! I'm looking forward to hearing everyone do and talk about the rotation you came up with. Take care!

Hellos to Tracy, Brenda, Joy and Lori.

Hey everyone - just walked in the door after a 9 1/2 hour drive with three unhappy kids- we spend the past 5 days househunting and scouting out Michigan- I am feeling very frazzled and overwhelmed - I think my husband is going to accept this job offer and just thinking about all the things we have to do makes my head swim.
Anyways, I just got on to say that I am definitely going to try Sabine's beach butt rotation- now I just have to go and look it up again to see what is on the schedule for tomorrow.

Hope everyone has a great night!

tracy

p.s. I know I missed a few days, but I just wanted to chime in with Shywolf and say that I also decided to wait on the new dvd's until I got some feedback and reviews - I guess I need to save my pennies for a new house!!

Hi Lori, from what I've read, you cut back after 5. Last month, when I tried to get rid of the holiday flab, I cut back after 7. I'd have my whole wheat bread in the morning and oatmeal after I worked out in the afternoon, but I'd only have steamed vegetables with my chicken or fish for dinner. It worked wonderfully, but it wasn't something I could keep up for very long. Now that I'm barely doing any cardio or weighted lower leg work (which makes me sweat like a hog), the flab is slowly creeping up again. I'm trying to watch what I eat, but clean eating has always been more difficult for me than keeping up with my workouts.

Pinky:)
