Beat the Winter Blues - 2/18

Cathlete
Hi ladies, my insomnia's back. I woke up at 5 a.m., tried to go back to sleep. By 6:30 I gave up so I did Step Blast and ab work from SJP and ME. Maybe this afternoon I'll do PH, upper body only. I have more time today and plan to take advantage of it.

The forecast here in DFW is mid-70's in the afternoon! Is spring in the air already?

Lorihart, I kinda like the rotation you're doing this week -- chest/back, then tri/bi/shoulders, then legs, then a full-body workout at the end of the week. I think I know how my March and April rotations are gonna look like. I still want to alternate strength weeks with some other kind of week, maybe a cardio or kickboxing week. When I do strength training, I hardly ever get to do cardio.

Sabine, I hope every day brings you more healing.

Brenda, I AM/HAVE BEEN feeling your vibes. THANK YOU. You have no idea how much I appreciate it.;-)

Tracy, how are those workouts coming? I hope you're having fun and are getting to release the tension from the last few weeks.

Elizabeth, are you addicted to Cathe yet?:)

Hellos to ShyWolf, Stacy-MN and Lorisax. Have a good day, everybody!

Hello and good day to you all.

The sun is shining bright today although it is still quite cold outside.

Just finished up BootCamp ...did the core only 1st then everything but core. I think I will do this again on Friday, Rhythmic Step for tommorrow maybe.

Will check back in later on if I can, my days can get very hectic.

Hellos to everyone!

Hello everybody,
I hope everybody is having a great day/week/etc.
I really could use a rotation - but I don't think I can invent one until I figure out if I have a goal, and what it is. I did a couple of day's of cathe's Feb, but realized the weight/imax day was just too much for me.
As for today well all the talk around here about bootcamp and that is what I reached for this morning. While doing the workout I must admit I was having some regrets.
Now I'd like to talk about boot camp a little, if I may.

I was pleased with my weights. I went 5# heavier than Cathe except on the leg presses, lat rows, tricep french presses and dumbbell hammer curls.

I was not too pleased with my abs/core. When I do those kick your leg up to the ball sits ups, I can barely lift my shoulders off the floor. Also, forget about those side to sides (sitting up holding the ball) I can do a few, but after about 8-12 my hip flexors, groin area really begins to ache.

The cardio - the later the cycle the worse I did. Forget those sequential power kicks - again achey flexors/groin. And forget those knee up/front kick 'ka-ching' kicks. Ditto on the flexors/groin. Okay on the squat thrust climbers but I didn't 'climb' very deep. The cardio got me extremely winded....

Gang, I'm barely hanging on here. My mental attitude is really really bad. I'm apologizing in advance for well all kinds of things, like forgetting who said what and who did what. I know that people are just about as happy as they make up their minds to be (paraphrasing Abe Lincoln) but I guess my mind is made up to be unhappy. I've always been an Eeyore, never a Tigger, but it seems to me now that Eeyore is an optimist! LOL

The wind finally stopped blowing and the rain has passed (for now). It actually looks like I'll be able to get out of the house today to run some errands and not be blown away.

Today I did PS Legs and Abs. Because I'm having a hard time getting enough food and protein the work is starting to get difficult. I got totally winded and had to stop frequently to catch my breathe. I made it through and was actually feeling really strong by the time the floor work came around. Have to say, I think this is some of the best floorwork out there. The inner/outer thigh raises torch my legs and I only use my 8# sculpting stick as a bar. My hats of to those who do it with a 15# bar. OUCH!!!

Pinky- thanks for the well wishes. My mouth feels pretty good and I think is improving daily. I just want to be able to eat more solid food again (as I whine and throw a temper tantrumx( ).

Elizabeth- don't be too intimidated by Cathe's ball work. You just need to jump on in and try one or two reps to get the feel of it and then you can start working on form and building up the number of reps. And Cathe's choreography is just a matter of doing the routine a few times to get the hang of it. Are you having fun?

Brenda- will go to the post office today and mail the package. I'll let you know for sure when it's done. Enjoy!

Joy- did you see on Christi's website the Humble Beginnings may not ship until early March? ARGH!!!

Shywolf- great work on Bootcamp. Was that in your workout space or in DD's room?

Hi to Lorihart, Lorisax, Tracy (tough workouts to start with after a break, you go girl!), and Stacy MN.

Hi Joy,

Sorry to hear that you're having a rough time of it today. I've only done Bootcamp the one time and it's interesting that I had difficulties in the exact same spots that you're mentioning in your post. BTW, I can also barely lift my shoulders on the kicking the ball ab work. Is Cathe insane?!?!?

Don't beat yourself up. Some days you have 'it' and other days you don't. I purposefully put 'it' in quotes as 'it' can refer to so many things (motivation, energy, ability to laugh at oneself while trying to emulate Cathe, etc.). Today was a don't have 'it' day. I've been with you on the check in for many months now and can remember many a post where you had 'it' with room to spare.

As far as direction, maybe you could look up some of Cathe's old rotations and do one of those or head over to VideoFitness and see if anything there interests you. Maybe you could do a 'Joy's Greatest Hits' rotation where you do the workouts you love to do to help you over this hump. As far as working toward something, any exercise you choose is going toward being a healthier, happier, fitter person! All the other benefits are the cherry on top!

I'm thinking about you and sending you positive vibes.

Hello All! Just finished Timesaver #3- as always had a BLAST! And yes, Pinky you're right- I'm ADDICTED to Cathe now. I ordered the Pyramids- heard so many good things about it, the Classics (to learn the moves) also CTX with my preorder (Somebody stop me...!) I'm looking at (later down the road), BC/MC, S&H- yikes! BTW, I think that chances are your great granddad was Cantonese also. Sorry about what happened with your great-grandmother. How are your knees doing? You did some great routines today- you are heroine, as many of the ladies on this board <S>. Most of all, how are YOU? Hang in there, girl. I've had/have in-law troubles sometimes- the SIL's. I'm sending you a cyber-hug...

Sabine- hope you're doing well, too. How's the swelling? Did you feel up to working out today- if not, that's OK- take a break and rest. I'm thinking about you, too...

Thanks for the welcome, Shywolf (love your name as I love wolves...).

Lori, taking power naps is great, isn't it. I feel so refreshed and ready to go afterwards (I love to sleep, too).

Brenda- hope your day is/went well- what workout did you do today? If it was a rest day- enjoy!

Tracy- I trust you're enjoying your *new* workout room!

Hellos to everyone and have a terrific day!

Elizabeth

Edited to say: Thanks for the encouragement, Sabine. I felt more secure on it with #3 today. Later I'm going to practice just that move. I appreciate your help!
:)

Good afternoon to everyone....

I just finished doing the cardio-only premix of C&W and PUB - I had to rearrange a few of my workouts so that I could fit in lifting upper body 3x this week. My muscles are fried (but in a good way)! Tomorrow I'm doing Imax 2 (I really mean it this time!) Then Friday I am going to do ME, and Saturday I am going hiking with some friends. Sunday will be my day of rest.

Joy - I'm so sorry that things are getting you down- I also tend to have lots of down times, and I hope that you will continue to check-in here and let us try and encourage you. It's funny, since we all don't really "know" each other, but when I was not working out for those 2 weeks that my in-laws were here, and I wasn't checking in, I really missed hearing about how everyone was doing. Sometimes just sort of "coasting" is okay. I loved Sabine's idea for your "greatest hits" rotation - just do what makes you feel good and happy, and eventually you will want to get back into the game! I know that I definitely go through times where I want to throw in the towel and give up this pursuit of fitness, but knowing how good it feels to be fit always wins me back. Please keep posting and checking in, even if it's just to say how much you dislike Boot Camp.

Sabine - keep slurping through your straw to get the energy you need! Good for you for keeping up with your workouts- I tend to use any excuse to take time off, and oral surgery would definitely count as vacation time for me.

Elizabeth - have fun tomorrow! timesaver #4 is my favorite on that dvd (but I must say that #5 is not so kind to me since it is mainly lower body work). It sounds like you have definitely jumped onto the Cathe bandwagon - she is so fun and this forum is great!

Pinky - not sleeping stinks! It totally affects your entire outlook on everything (at least it does for me) I'm sure having houseguests doesn't help the situation. At least you got in a killer workot today. I hope this is just a one time deal, and that tonight you snooze in peace.

ShyWolf- I haven't ever tried doing any of the BC premixes (I love it the way it is!) but I know many people prefer separating out the core work - have you done it this way before, and what do you think the benefit was?

Brenda and Lori- hope you both are having a great and productive day.

Hello to anyone else I may have forgotten!
Tracy

Hi Everyone,
I muss so much when I go to work.I don't have time to read everything but i will when I get home.
I worked out in the a.m.I did BIC & Shou,(CTX AND PUB)then I did 3 parts C&W and a 40 min run.I had a good workout.I was getting tired near the end.I guess b/c it had only been 12hours since I had worked out last.Thats the worst about working out late in the night and again in the morning.
Anyway,I have to go back to work.
Lori

Hi again Ladies;

Just finished dinner and I'm stuffed ...made baked ziti tonight and just had a cups worth which was 9 pts(I'm on WW).

Elizabeth:
I really enjoyed last month when all I did was the TS dvd. I love it as it is quick and gets the job done. Have you done TS#5 ? I think this one and TS#4 are my favorites as I felt a really good doms afterward. I'm sure once you get the other workouts you mentioned you are gonna love them! Yup Cathe is one great personal trainer.
Oh and thanks about my name, This name has a meaning for me and you can pretty much figure me out by it. :)

Joy:
Ahhh Boot Camp ...that one is I've heard you either love it or hate it . I did have some difficulty with portions of the core work but for me I make it a challenge and give it my gusto to do it.
As far as mental attitude; I must say that I can relate. I have manic depression( dx for about 8 yrs and medicated thank goodness) along with adult attention deficit disorder (I just found out last week due to my many symptoms)I was shocked but it all makes sense to me as my focus is foggy and I have a million and one things I'm doing &/or going through my head. My doc offered me some meds but I said no but after considerable thought I may just try it. I'm like a chicken running around with her head cut off LOL :) Ooops went off on another tangent :p Just wanted to say keep hanging on and hugs to you. I personally don't know what I'd do without my meds to help me feel 'normal' and on target.

Sabine:
How are you healing? Have you found any interesting menus that you'd like to share? When I was using Grow's blended protein powder I used to love making it with uncooked oatmeal, lots of ice , vanilla, cinnamon, butter buds and milk or water . I would put it in a blender until it was the consistency of a nice creamy milkshake...it tasted like oatmeal cookies to meand kept me nice and full for a long time. Yummmmm! Hmmm I should go and order some. Oh and I ended up doing Bootcammp in my daughter's room....sigh... I think by this weekend hubby will have my workout space ready.. keeping my fingers crossed.

Tracy:
This was the 1st time I chose to separate the core work from the rest of the workout. It felt a little weird for me but core work is something I need to work on . I decided to do it 1st so I could give it my all and concentrate on it without feeling tired or winded from the rest of the video.
