Beat the Winter Blues 2/11

Hi guys,
I'm starting early today - see if anyone else starts at the same time:eek:

My dinner yesterday was wonderful. This restaurant is small family owned (owner does the cooking) and the food quality can be inconsistant. Last night it was fantastic. We even had a new server who was GREAT. The good news is that I ate only 1/2 the lasagna and took the rest home. The bad news is that I ate 2 1/2 breadsticks (they are large) AND I LOVED EVERY BITE!!!:9 :9

Sabine, thanks for the info on your dental work. I'm sort of a tooth nut and I believe in really taking care of your teeth, gums and jaw. The one area in which I was a STELLAR mother was dental hygiene - and it shows in my children. The work you are having done almost sounds like a miracle - I know you must realize the full benefit since you are electing to have it done. It sounds like they did one quadrant of your mouth at a time. (I think you said this was #4)

LoriH, I don't think the sugar thing is 'all in your head' cuz I'm one that suffers from it. I know that when I used to drink alcohol, I ate very little dessert (I drank a lot of alcohol) The alcohol, I believe, is metabolized into a sugar like compound in your body. (DISCLAIMER - Not biologically accurate - just a summation based on casual reading)

Today was rest day. I did the yoga stretch from KV's yoga focus DVD. Great hip stretch. I've been rethinking the Cathe Feb rotation. At first I didn't want that many days off. But now I'm thinking that I can use those extra days for good long stretches that aren't too physically exhausting - like the ys I did today. I'm gonna analyze this a little closer and set up a schedule. Time, as always, is a problem - especially during the week when I have to hoof it to work.

Hello LoriS, Brenda, Shywolf, Pinky, Tracy & StacyMN and anyone else thinking about jumping in here.

-joy

Good morning everyone-

Yesterday was PowerHour. Didn't get any cardio in except for vacuuming. Joy, I understand what you mean about the prep for setting up the barbell in SS and all the time it takes- that's one of the reasons I get so frustrated with the Pyramids. It takes me forever to adjust my barbell so many times I keep it on the medium weight.

Lori I am hearing you! I was fine all day until the night time and had a Balance Bar to tide me over. I also had to catch myself not putting a few forkfulls of fettucini in my mouth that I made for the kids.

I'm heading out and will get a skim/sugarfree vanilla latte at Starbucks which should hold my cravings for a while. I also drank a ton of water yesterday - a few days ago I was adding a little Crystal lite mix to break up the monotony and I don't think it was working. I don't know why, but the regular water seems to go through me better (literally).

Sabine, your description gave me the chills. I'll be thinking about you tomorrow at 8:45. Are you going alone or will someone hold your hand? Is it outpatient surgery?

Also, I do have Step Blast and love it but now I'm afraid I'm conquering it so I know what's coming and that's one of my problems.
I need to shake things up.

Joy- as long as you enjoyed dinner, than good for you!!
I think my body responds the same way as yours. Sugar (maybe alcohol, too) seems to just turn into fat for me. My chocolate and wine intake has been much higher lately than a few months ago. We'll see what happens.

Pinky, hope you get to take a breather before your company comes...

Shywolf, have you tried the Eucerin cream that comes in a tub? Its really thick and works great for dry hands, especially after working so hard (unfortunately we're a very dry breed and in the winter we crack and bleed). Is your work finished now?

Tracy, hope all is well- at least its a little warmer today.

Hi LoriS!

Hope I didn't miss anyone...

have a great day-
Brenda

Good Morning LAdies,
I am glad you started this tread early b/c I always keep my eyes open for it,as soon as I get out of bed.:)
Joy-I love breadsticks! Not the hard kind but the real bread kind. And when I have anything like that I put butter on it to.If I am going to feel guilty about eating something then mind as well make it worth while.:)
I feel weird today.I did S,J&P and during the step part I felt like I was drunk or something.I didn't feel dizzy but I felt like I couldn't focus on one thing. It got better at the end of it.Maybe I am just not use to looking at the t.v anymore. Most workouts I just listen but the newer oens you have to look.OR it could be the fact that I have went 24 hrs without anything sweet.
I have to say it again. Some people don't think its an addiction but I certainly do.I would like nothing more then to go get a candy from the cupboard. But I can't b/c I won't stop at one and I know it will just be a matter of time before I feel like myself again.
Prehaps I will get a hot choc.at work this afternoon and just have enough sips to keep me happy:9
Brenda-I love starbucks.WE don't have one around here.Just a tim hortons and they only make full fat cappucinos(I did'nt spell that right)So maybe a hot choc will do.
Anyway, its not that bad.I am not craving it right now but I don't like the weid feeling in my head and my mood isn't the greatest.I have never seen anyone who gave up something that was in a good mood;)
I did the step part of S,J&P, then I skipped the cardio parts and did a 20min run,and 2-15 min runs in between the weights.I would have done the rest but of course I am short on time again.
Time to get ready for work.
Hi to everyone else and I hope everyone as a good day!
Lori:)

Hello ladies, I'm checkin' in early as I may not have time later. My son's finally off to school. I sent him off with his breathing machine so his teacher can give him a treatment after nap time. The painting people have started work on the townhome, and the next time I'll have to stress over the next group of workers is early next week, when the flooring people come in. I knew, getting into this business (buying and improving homes then getting them rented), that it'd be a lot of work, but with all the other stuff going on around me, the stress is doubled.

Sabine, I was reading yesterday's thread and want to wish you well on your surgery. As early as now, I'm sending you get-well, recover-fast vibes.:) I'll be thinking of you.

Joy, I love breadsticks especially when they're drenched with butter. So if you loved every bite you had, good for you! Last night my son SHARED (we're still getting him to bite into this concept of sharing as the child is so self-centered he sometimes takes my food away and says that it's his) with me his chocolate Teddy Grahams and fat-free Pringles. It was a very nice mother-son moment, so I enjoyed every bite as well.:)

Brenda, I also did PH yesterday.:) I skipped the lower body segments because after PH I did CTX Power Circuits, but only the step and kickbox segments. I subbed regular deadlifts and one-legged deadlifts for those 2 sets of lunges with three pulses. I also did calf raises with 12's instead of the last set of static lunges with DB's. My knees liked it better that way.

ShyWolf, how's the tiling going? For dry hands, I mix Johnson & Johnson's baby oil gel into my regular lotion. It can get a bit greasy though.

All this talk about trying to curb cravings for sweets is very timely for me. With everything going on in my life right now I find myself craving chocolate. I normally don't. I don't have a sweet tooth. But lately my cravings have been for something sweet or salty and junky like potato chips or cheese puffs. It's like I am falling very slowly inside my head and I'm grasping at comfort food to keep myself from going under. Does that make sense?

Anyway, today will be cardio as I did a full body workout yesterday. Something light. I'll decide later.

Hellos to Lorihart, Stacy-MN (are you still there?), LoriSax and Tracy (how's your daughter?). Hope to catch you all tomorrow.

Pinky
