Bathing Suits

Any one out there have trouble finding a swimsuit that fits right? My dilema, i wear a size 6 in womens jeans or a 7-9 in jrs and look pretty good, but when it comes to swimsuits, forget it. i usually order 2 pcs. thru venus but the elastic is tight (i order a large) and it looks small around the waist, fits great in the butt and i like the way i can order tops as bra sizes, they fit perfect too. Last year i tried an extra large and it was huge thru the butt and crotch but still tight around the waist. My stomach is flat, just mushy, not real tight and i'm working my a$$ off with Cathe but i don't think i can be in tip top shape by summer. Why can't swimsuits fit like bikini underwear?! We can all look like models if bikinis fit like underwear!! :p

I use board shorts or shiny spandex bike shorts for the bottoms and just buy the top separately. Tyr makes great tops. I refuse to agonize over what's hanging out of the bottoms, just wear shorts.

I totally agree w/you on why can't swimsuits fit just like underwear!!! Ha! I don't have a problem w/the bikini bottom but forget about it for the top; I'm a 32C & I like to have a lot of coverage on top b/c I swim. I'd perish the thought of losing it in the water!!! I'll go check out Venus. I did like a suit from Victoria's Secret but wouldn't you know it it was on back order until June + it was $128.00!!!x( I just can't justify spending that kind of money for a bathing suit. I hear your dilemma. Good luck on your search. Kathy:D

Mogambo: Where on the Tyr site can you purchase the tops? I only saw 2 one piece bathing suits.

Tyr suits are wonderful. You can buy bathing suit bottoms and tops separately at http://www.athleta.com or http://www.title9sports.com . I like boy cut bottoms myself. Otherwise, the leg holes are, well, embarrasing, on my rear-end-less body. :) I find sizing a nightmare. An apple- my waist comes out as a size L but my hips measure in as an XS. I'm a rectangle. I have found that if something fits in the waist, it's huge in the hips, or if it fits the hip the waist is too small. I hate buying clothes!

I get my Tyr tops locally, but I do think Title 9 has some. Check Bobbi's links. I also think, but am not sure, that D!ck's carries them.

I normally hate this time of year! Especially this year because it has come a bit early for me....I am going to Hawaii in two weeks and the snow is still lingering! Needless to say, I am not in swimsuit mood:p In desperation, I went to Target, and was stunned at how many suits actually looked good! I walked out with 4 new ones, at great prices:D I was in the dressing room thinking the old "Why can't a suit fit like my bra and panties?" and as I tried on one in particular, it did! They also had a ton of those really cute little skirts made out of lycra, so you can walk around in that, and then if you lay down to sunbathe it can be slipped off.

For me the problem is actually trying them on. I have never had luck through the mail. Some suits have a cut that looks like it would be perfect, but you try it on and something isn't quite right. I need to be able to see how it is on me, not the hanger. Good luck!;-)

Once you get to that beach, pool or river take a goooood look around: Most women are not in tip top shape and you probably look better than most of them because you exercise.

I don't care what I look like to other people in a bathing suit. I have to be comfortable in it. I am very active at the beach, play tag, volleyball, jump of the dock etc (just like a Teenager) that's why I bought a 'workout bikini' - the top looks just like a sports bra and I am used to seeing myself in it.

Life is really too short to worry about how other people might perceive you.

The Gap (Gap Body) has started carrying swimsuits this year. They have one pieces and mix & match tankinis and bikinis. I tried a few on and thought they fit like underwear and seemed very comfortable.

They carried swimsuits eight yrs ago or so, and I bought three on sale. I don't know if their new line is of the same quality, but I STILL have the other three. They have worn like iron.

I've never tried them, but it looks to me like Land's End has a good selection of suits that strike a happy medium - enough coverage but don't look like they're made for the Golden Girls. And they have three different levels of leg openings.

I ordered a bikini from Venus - my first - and love it! No problem with fit and I love being able to mix and match all the different top and bottom styles.
