Barry's Bootcamp

Barry's Bootcamp. Feeling tempted but looking for opinions. Anyone try them and how do they compare to Cathe? TIA

I would like to know also. I love bootcamp workouts and have made some combos out of Cathe's stuff. I would like a little more variety so if anyone has opinions please let me (us) know. Thanks so much!

BBC are tough endurance work outs! I just finished a 3 week rotation using them and they kicked my butt! They are no joke, ladies. If you like tough work outs, you will love these!}(

I know I'm hard on instructors, but once again, I was disappointed here. The music is pretty good (but very repetitive). In general, I don't like when instructors make a workout tough just so they can say they're tough. IMO this seems to happen more with males than with females. I felt as if he was throwing one 'hard' thing at you after another with no thought behind them. He also doesn't strike me as very knowledgeable about fitness (specific exercises, yes, but the reasons behind them, NO). This is one of the reasons I love Cathe. She is VERY knowledgeable about exercise and how to provide a well thought out, well rounded workout. I respect this attitude. He doesn't explain the purpose of the exercises other than to make them 'tough'. This 'I'm going to make you suffer' attitude really turns me off. This is just me though, I know many people really like him.

I really enjoy these. Nothing fancy or flashy, basic moves for the cardio and weights. You feel like you're in a gym class right there with everyone else. For me, the cardio is challenging, especially the treadmill portions. I really have tons of room to improve. And I like having a different instructor everyday. I like Nadia for butt/leg day, but nothing beats the male instructors! Hey - anything to get me out of bed at 4am to workout! :p

Overall, very happy with my purchase and will keep these. I've done four 5-day rotations since I got these and really have seen awesome results. I go heavier with the weights and my arms and upper body look great. My lower body has really leaned out from doing all that intense running.

I just got these and I'm enjoying them. Good 30 minute weight workouts. The cardio is killer and short. You can get a lot done in a short amount of time.

That being said, I can see why someone would not like them. They are not 'pretty' and they are tough. Definitely more P90X style than Cathe style. I like them because I've trained with more men then women so I'm used to their style of training. The non-treadmill portion of BBC Arms and Abs is probably the toughest 20 minutes of exercise I have ever done, but I was very proud when I did it.

I have thought about purchasing these but am concerned I won't get my money's worth because I do not own a treadmill. Is a treadmill necessary to get the workout's full benefits? Thanks.

Cheryl

I did the TM part on my bike this morning. And if you don't have anything like that, then you can do the non-tread mill cardio - but I would not do that every day as it's extremely high impact. I mainly do my own cardio afterwards.

I LOVE these ..

LOTS .. LOTS .. LOTS of reps though.

It is a good change of pace from a regular "choreographed" workout .. and you will be challenged. No "fru fru" stuff here!!

If you have knee issues the cardio segment is mostly plyo work .. so take that into considerations.

I have not dared the treadmill part yet .. I viewed it and it is very unique and looks really tough ...

If you don't have a treadmill you can do the cardio segment - and it will push you!! (watch your knees on some of the moves though)

and if you do just the weight part .. you will get your money's worth .. IMHO anyway!! HTH!!

but if you like polished - "choreographed" workouts .. this is not for you .. it is more truely "bootcamp" ..

I love Barry's Bootcamp as well. They are very basic but intense workouts. You can definitely do them even if you don't have a treadmill. There is non-treadmill cardio sections on 4 of the 5 dvds and it's kick your butt cardio. I like these for a nice change of pace. I have a lot of Cathe's, Amy's, Jari's, some Tracey's, and these are a great add to the mix. Personally I think they're fantastic workouts.

Wow! Thanks for all the replies. I think I am going to end up purchasing these tapes. I adore Cathe and am definately getting all her upcoming workouts. I think, though, variety is good. I do mostly Cathe kickboxing, plyo (imaxs), and drillmax/bodymax workouts. Her weights are too light for me though, so I go to the gym to lift heavy. I think she is the best and my rear has for sure tighten up thanks to all the plie jacks...KM blast challenge and Imax 3!! Anyways, thanks again

If I had, for some reason, to choose between Barry and Cathe, there's no question I would still choose Cathe - but since I don't have to I love Barry as well.
The only issue I have is the same one I have with P90X - I love them and want to do a total rotation - but don't have the discipline (or interest, really) for walking away from my Cathe workouts for that long. For a while I was working them in with my Cathe's, but now I am back on pure Cathe rotations. I got great results with last months rotations but really want some fat loss, so I am doing the May rotation now. I'm really enjoying it as it has me using the premixes.
I'll get back to Barry and P90X possibly next month - but I can't see myself using them as anything other than "seasoning" for my rotations. I just never get bored of the Cathe workouts- there are so many, and now that there are plans for more...
I'm really glad I bought them, I would buy from both camps again - and I guess I would do a pure roatation of one or the other if I noticed a plateau in my results.
