Barrys bootcamp question to those who already have it

When I did it, I put a day of aerobics in between......however, I think it's meant to be done day in and day out. You might want to check out Barry's Forum and see if you could find the rotation they suggest. Personally, I don't think the plyo done daily after the weights is good on your joints (although, I did do it for a while - but my legs got very fatigued). You might also want to do a search on Videofitness and see what others have done.

I agree, with or without the weight work, plyos done 5 days a week are definitely overkill and unnecessarily tough on the body.

I have these workouts, but haven't gotten around to doing all of them. Maybe I'll do a rotation one of these days! I was kind of saving it for a week off (maybe spring break).

I have a bad neck/back and I've just started practicing jogging/running on the treadmill to try and build myself up to be able to be a runner without my sciatica and other problems flaring.

I hope to do the Treadmill aerobics and plyo aerobics with these next time I do them. I think I actually lost a pound or two when I did the short rotation I mention above.......but it was a bit too hard on my legs. I like that these have the treadmill option on them, or you could even use the Elipitical for that workout and follow it.

RE: Barrys bootcamp question to those who already have ...

I did it for 2 weeks. I alternated between the cardio & treadmill workouts and added on to make all cardio at least 30 minutes. Don't think I could do it for 4 weeks.

RE: Barrys bootcamp question to those who already have ...

I think the short, intense cardio workouts were a welcome change for my body and maybe that's why I responded and lost a couple pounds. I also haven't had sore abs since I've done these. Nothing gets my abs sore like Barry's Bootcamp. Barry does these jacknives off of the step with a dumbbell and they do it for me every time. They also do a lot of other different ab work in these from what I remember. I think maybe it's time for another Barry rotation soon. I love Barry and wish he actually led more than 2 of the workouts. He's sort of "mad scientist" goofy but I've always liked "different" people. He's relentless and us Cathe ladies love that, don't we??

I was very surprised to see that they were going to market this set on HSN.....as I think these are a bit advanced for your "average" American, but heck ....if it turns an "average" American into an exercise and fitness fanatic because they love it, then I guess that's a good thing!

I like it. I did it a while back for about 3 weeks. I alternated between the cardio on the floor/step and did the other cardio part on my elliptical. Was fine on my joints that way. The weight work really got a good burn going. Good to do every once in a while for a different rotation. I like Barry's personality and the others too. I also like that every one in the "class" is going at their own pace. Good investment for sure.

Does anyone know how long the workouts are? I went to his website but could not find the length of each workout. Does only one of them have cardio?

Cheryl

Thanks for the quick reply. Do you like the workouts? Are they worth $69 in your opinion? How intense is the cardio and the strength training?

I was thinking of purchasing them, but would like to know more about them. Like how advanced are they?

Cheryl

I am thinking of purchasing them but I dont want them if they arent just as challenging as cathe is. On a scale of 1-10 how challenging are they? thanks!

I would say an 8 but others should give thier opinion too.Hopefully lorajc answers this too. She is one of the hardcore ladies ! :)

Geez - I'm afraid to give my opinion cuz I thought Kelly Coffey's Step Kickboxing was intense enough cardio and someone else posted saying it wasn't..............but I didn't mean it was Imax intense.

I think Barry's is pretty intense. There is a different cardio on each DVD ...totally different and each instructor uses a lot of plyos. I don't think they have a cool/down stretch either. Can't remember for sure. I wouldn't call the cardio "Imax intense" for the total 20 minutes but I think they are intense enough to be what they are supposed to be, which is a shorter, intense cardio. They use an extremely high step (almost unsafe looking to me ......about 4-5 risers) and I didn't even use that high of a step and got a good enough workout. I like that they have the treadmill option also.......which I hope to use next time.

As far as the weights go, there are some different moves...that's for sure and I think that's the best thing about these. I remember Barry doing a lot of isometric holds which seemed to work differently than a Cathe. I guess the intensity of the weights would really depend on the amount of weight you lifted. From what I remember, they are higher rep workouts....so everyone would need to find their failure poundage. It might take some playing around with (which is normal).

The only reason I would call these not as intense as a Cathe workout is because of the time factor. I think each weight/cardio segment can be done in around an hour. Some are slightly over the hour....can't remember. If you really wanted intense, you could do 2 weights and 2 cardio's back to back...........and I think if you didn't think that was intense enough.....than you're possibly not human??

I know when I first got them, I was so enthusiastic about them that I did 2 cardio segments back to back as a cardio workout one day and it was pretty tough. I never did it again....cuz I think I remember my joints aching a bit......but I do have to modify some of Cathe's air jacks and tuck jumps on my rebounder due to back problems......so maybe it would be fine for others.

I'd just hate to give my opinion here and have someone buy them and be disappointed. I find them pretty tough and can't believe they are even trying to market them to the HSN audience! (There's an idea....check out HSN.com and see what the price is there....maybe it's cheaper).

I tried on HSN and nothing came up. Thanks for the opinion though. I just like to get an Idea on things. I think everyone is going to think differently on workouts. I think I will buy them.

I don't know if this coupon code still works, but just a couple of weeks ago I got $15 off the Barry's Bootcamp at HSN -- it's a first time shopper code. 498201
