Hi There!

I was wondering if any of you can give me some input about Bare Escentual's mineral make-up. I was watching an infomercial about this product and was wondering if it was any good?

Does anyone have suggestions or recommendation for a great skin line?

I appreciate your thoughts!

Hi Karen,

I've been using the Bare Minerals "foundation" (in quotes because it's more like a powder) for about two years now..it works really well--good coverage. My favorite thing about it is that you don't have to be really careful with it..you can brush it on almost carelessly and it still blends well. It also lasts a very long time.

I'm 34 and still have oily skin. This is the only makeup that I have used that I absolutely love! It gives nice coverage yet looks natural. And as the above poster said it is really hard to mess up. They have some nice brushes too that help with the application. I have tried everything from the drug stores and from the department stores and I always felt so made up and could never find the right color. A little bit of this stuff goes a long way and I REALLY like it! Good luck!

Hi there!
I have been using bare minerals since February and I really like it and will never go back to any other foundation. It does give great coverage and I have big pores around my nose and the mineral veil really works to make them appear smaller.
 
Another Bare Minerals fan here! Check out qvc.com You can buy all the BE/Bare minerals products there. If you don't like them, you can send them back! Also, QVC has fabulous BE "Today's Special Values". They usually have sample sizes of the latest products. Bisque is my all time favorite product. I use it as a concealer, eye shadow, etc. If you buy the foundation, consider buying the kabuki brush as well. I have found it seems to blend the foundation easier.

I've been using Bare Escentuals foundation, mineral veil, and blush for about a month. At first, I wasn't sure if I liked it and almost returned it. I was very used to "regular makeup." I decided to keep it, though, and I'm glad I did.

I am ridiculously pale and wear Fair #1 which almost looked darker than my skin in the container. It blends in well, though. I love it for under my eyes to cover the purpleness. It never settles into the lines. When I get a blemish, it is super red and stands out a lot on my skin, so it's hard for me to cover it with the foundation using a smaller concealer brush. For minor imperfections like redness around my nose, it works very well. For a really bad red spot, I usually put traditional concealer on first.

The mineral veil is awesome. In the past few years my skin has gotten really oily, and this is the only thing that keeps the oil at bay for the entire day. I even wear it at night when I got to bed because I used to wake up an oily mess. I do, on rare occasion, have a dry skin day, and both products work just as well then.

The blush- Sorbet, is also very pretty. I'm not crazy about their brushes because I prefer ones with longer handles, but that's just me.

I also recommend ordering from QVC. They carry the whole line and give you the 30 day money back guarantee.

What type of skin do you have, if you don't mind me asking? I use ProActiv and like it very much, but it's definitely geared toward acne.

Thanks for all your feedback. I am a little nervous aobout ordering make-up that I haven't seen. I am not really sure what to order. My skin is just kinda normal. I really don't break out...not oily if anything it is more on the dry side. Do you think this make-up would work well on my type of skin? Should I order from QVC or Dermstore? Will any brushes work or do I need theirs? Hmmm....decisions...decisions.

Also....what does the veil stuff do? Sorry....I can't remember the actual name.

My daughter (15) has oily skin and breaks out alot. We were thinking of getting pro-active. Is this a good product? Where do you order it from? She is getting ready to go into high school and she feels better about herself when her skin looks good. We have tried many products...dermalogica works okay for her skin but for the price we would love to have something that works great for her skin type.

Any help is appreciated. Sorry that this is so long!

I was very hesitant about ordering products I’d never seen. I’m very picky! I chose to order from QVC because of their selection and customer service. I hate to be a home shopping addict, but the company really is excellent. I believe there is a beauty hotline for BE products. Also, I noticed that when I’d swirl the foundation powder in the lid, a thin residue of powder would develop. On the QVC website, there is a live chat area, and in about 5 minutes, I spoke to a rep who said that this was not unusual. Another plus is the money back guarantee. If you are uncertain about a color, you can always order more than one and return the one(s) that you didn’t like. You will lose out on the shipping back and forth, but it’s still not a bad deal. And finally, when you place an order, you get a tracking number that allows you to see if and when your order has been processed and shipped and when it will arrive.

I think Bare Escentuals will work well on drier skin. As long as you exfoliate weekly and moisturize or put on sunscreen prior to applying, your skin won’t appear dry. I think it’s one of the few lines that truly works well for all skin types.

The BE brushes are good quality, feel soft, and will not fall apart when you wash them. If you already have a powder brush that you like, you can certainly use it. I recently ordered a powder brush from Garden Botanika because I was looking for something not made of animal hair, and the synthetic fibers work well with the products, too.

While the foundation powder is intended to provide some coverage, mineral veil is considered the finishing touch. It is completely sheer, even more so than most translucent powders, and is supposed to diffuse light, give a soft glow, and control too much shine without drying the skin. Your daughter may even enjoy these products. I think they are very appropriate for teens because they will never look overdone. The mineral veil would definitely help reduce the oiliness that contributes to the breakouts.

I also think ProActiv is worth a try for your daughter. The products really are everything you hear on the infomercials- safe, gentle, and effective. As they say, the key is using the cleanser, toner, and lotion as a system, not separately. They also have a mask with sulfur that is supposed to draw out impurities and can be used a few times per week or overnight as a spot treatment. I order ProActiv from QVC, as well. The ProActiv website sells the basic 3-pc system for $39.95 plus shipping. QVC sells a 4-pc system that includes the basics and the mask for $41. If you choose auto-delivery, you pay $8.50 initially for shipping, and never pay shipping again. You get a new shipment every 60 days, and you can adjust the time period if necessary. Again, you have the return policy, and if you want to stop auto-delivery, you can call customer service and cancel it. There’s no cancellation fee, and you won’t get any emails encouraging you to buy again. QVC also sends you everything you’d get if you ordered directly from ProActiv- instructions, tips, catalog, etc. ProActiv sells a product called Daily Oil Control, a lightweight lotion, but it didn’t work well for me. The mineral veil worked much better.

If your daughter has acne, I assume that you have probably considered a dermatologist. Before you go that route, try ProActiv. Most dermatologists will prescribe a retinoid lotion like Differin, an antibiotic like clindamycin, and a benzoyl peroxide lotion. The products definitely have the potential to irritate, and a huge drawback is that your skin typically looks worse before it clears up. Not the case with ProActiv.

So, if you decide to buy the BE foundation and mineral veil from QVC, one combo happens to be less expensive than the other. You can use the same powder brush for both. If you purchase the foundation and brush ($35) + mineral veil ($19), it is less expensive than buying the mineral veil and brush ($33) + foundation ($25). Each combo contains the same sizes.

I love this makeup! I have very sensitive skin and I couldn't use makeup unless it was the Prescriptives brand (very expensive, only in upscale department stores). I have been using it for over two years and will not use anything else. You will not be disappointed in this product it delivers what it promises.
 
I'm interested in trying this product but how do you choose a color for foundation? I don't trust that my screen colors are true. Do they send free samples for color or anything?
 
Being a man i'm not one for makeup (clearly). However i have redness under both eyes due to an alergic reaction years ago. And though some has gone now i'm still left with redness that makes me look tired or life i've been bitch slapped. My derm told me to use a little bareminreals under both eyes to cover it up. So i did. I used 2.3 (shade) and it just goes. Gone. Can't see it. Can't see it on. Nothing. Fab stuff. In winter i'll use 1.2 shade. I would never consider wearing any makeup other than to conceal these marks and i'm glad the derm showed me this stuff.

I just ordered the foundation and veil stuff! I hope I picked the right color.. it's really hard for me even in a dept store or drugstore when you can see them... How do you know, when you get the stuff if it is the right color? how should it look on your face. ( you can see I am very unsofisticated when it comes to face makeup!

When buying any foundation, the goal is to find a color that most closely matches your own skin. Most often, when you visit a department store and would like to buy a liquid foundation, they'll take 3 cotton swabs and put one vertical stripe of each color they think may work on your jawline. Then they'll blend each one just a bit and look for the one that almost disappears into your skin. The "jaw test" is done to make sure you use a color that doesn't cause a line of demarcation- a different color face and neck. Since Bare Minerals is so sheer, you really can't do the jaw test. You can, however, apply it to half of your face. If there is no line on your jaw and one side looks the same color as the other, then it's a good match for you. If one side looks ghostly or too tan, they you need to go up or down a shade.

This question is for all of you who replied to Karen's question. Are Bare Escentual mineral makeup pinkish? I haven't tried them for fear that they will be too pink. Powder or foundations that are yellowish tend to match better my skin tone.
 
Adding my love for the whole line of Bare Minerals...If you live in California they actually have Bare Escentual stores (I'm lucky to live by 3 of them).
