Ha! I love your honest memories of childhood - not all sugar and spice for some of us little girls! LOL

well, my daughter is almost 7 and we just bought a "12 dancing princesses" barbie today. she was dressed fine. i agree with others - the bratz and horrible. they look like hookers.

i played with barbies growing up and i don't have "issues" because of it. i just try to provide some diversity and not be a bad role model MYSELF with body image and clothes. i figure that counts for more. as much as i wish i lived on a planet where i could shield my kids forever from images i don't like that's not reality. make it too taboo and it gets all that much more interesting.

My two girls started playing with Barbies around three. My older daughter is 11 and likes to dress them in different outfits now.. but when she was three all barbies ended up naked. I have never had an issue with her or my 5 year old dressing skimpy but they like to get made up once in a while. I have written the Bratz co about my concerns about the dressing and availability of different color dolls and they replied back within a week. So voice your concern but remember that kids follow what we show as an example more than what others do. They are our mirror most of the time.

Love the feedback here! Great advice about body image and setting examples. We do love our Barbies here, though! I do like the princess and ballerina ones the best. Hey, maybe they should make a Cathe doll, with the Crew, and cool workout clothes!!My daughter would love that, and what excellent role models!!!Just a thought...:7 Nancy~~~

I think one of the reasons that Barbie ends up naked alot is because it's so darn hard to get those tight-fitting clothes on her. Especially for 3 year old hands. My kids are 6 and I am still helping them get her dressed.

I think a Cathe doll is a fabulous idea . . . although, maybe just a tad scary. Not sure Cathe would want what could be a voodoo doll available to all of us after she kills us on a workout (insert her evil laugh here).

My dd pretends that some of her dolls are Cathe, Cedie and Brenda! She thinks that Cathe is the mommy and the crew are the kids. We play "Cathe" often.:)

I gave my daughter Barbies when she was 3 or 4 - she never liked them. She's not the "doll" type and prefers animals. She has only one doll that she likes a bit, and that's one of those Bratz Big Babies. And the doll is dressed in a way I would never allow my daughter to dress, even as a teenager...but it's just a doll. I don't worry too much about that. If she ever says, "I want to wear a micro-mini skirt because Baby Yasmine wears one" I'll just say "Baby Yasmine is a piece of plastic!"

Now that brings back memories. Of course Barbie never married Ken, she married G.I.Joe! My daughter had a few Barbies, both black and white, since she is mixed. However, I have enjoyed my daughter collecting American Girl Dolls. And I just love the movies and the books. They are expensive however but sometimes you can get movies and other collectiables on eBay.
