Barbell note

My Troy lite barbell system arrived today and I just wanted to let everyone know that, although I haven't actually used it in a workout yet, it looks great: high quality, good-looking and compact. It is all black and the plates are completely rubberized. If you are thinking about whether or not to get it, do not hesitate. The bar itself is only 5 pounds, but with the plates it can go up to 40 pounds. It's priced right (although the shipping charges make it somewhat less economical). Also, I got excellent service at Fitness First. I apologize for sounding like a commercial, but I love workout gadgets! :7

Hi Nancy

Thanks for the update! It sounds great! Rubberized plates sound good too. It must be easy to put them on, unlike the hard steely ones I have. I will now consider the Troy. I just found out my bar was 10 pounds....all this time I was figuring it to be 5 lbs. No wonder I was having some trouble on bicep curls and overhead presses. I was trying to lift even heavier than Cathe. Well, the good news is that I'm stronger than I thought I was! LOL!

Nancy, good luck with the barbell! I'm sure you will enjoy it!!

Hi Donna,
5 pounds makes a big difference! Glad to hear that you are stronger than you thought. Good for you!
The thick rubber coating is great because, as you said, they are easy to handle, and you don't have to worry about causing damage to floors (or body parts).
It seems silly, but isn't there something kind of empowering about owning a barbell? I'm not getting along with my boss, our law firm is merging with another firm and we're moving to new offices in a few weeks. I'm very nervous and I'm having daily nose bleeds. There's a lot of uncertainty in my job, but, hey, at least I'm in control of something in my life: I'm in control of my fitness!
Take care!

Hey, Nancy! Glad you're enjoying your new Troy Lite barbell system! I love mine too - don't know what I ever did without it. And actually, the barbell bar can hold up to 80 pounds of plates; you have to purchase the additional plates separately, but doesn't that give you a good goal to work toward?

Have fun!

Annette

You are absolutely right! What I should have said, and meant to say, was that the "system" or kit comes with plates of 35 pounds. NOT that the barbell is limited to that weight! You can always buy extra plates for a maximum of 80 lbs. (I'm not rushing out to buy these myself.) Thank you Annette for clarifying!

Hi Nancy,

Yes, it IS empowering to own a barbell. You can feel good and strong....and when you need that extra push to get that barbell one more inch over your head, just think of your boss and that ought to do it!!!}>

Keep up the good work, you'll make some good strength gains with that barbell. And it feels great to be in CONTROL!!

Good Luck!

I've been looking for Fitness First and haven't been able to find a web address. Can someone point me in the right direction? TIA

RE: Fitness First website address:

Oh, "fitness one-st", duh, I should have figured that out. Thanks, Gill-Woman, have a great vacation next week!
