I have a 15lb body bar (from fitness 1st)& I'm wondering if I can just buy the spings & attach weights to it like a bar bell? I don't see the difference in the troy lite bar bell & the body bar, except that the troy lite bar itself is lighter. size seems to be the same so why should I buy the whole set?

Shipping would be $25 - that's half the cost of the set ! I could buy another Cathe DVD for that so I don't want to waste so much on shipping.

pls help !

thanks.

I don't think that you can put weights on a body bar. They don't have those rings that keep the weights from sliding to the middle of the bar, do they? Is it padded? Most of them are. Check yours out.

I got my set from Wal-Mart for cheap. I was in the same sit, can't spend a lot of money. You may want to check it out!

yes, my body bar is padded, but so is the troy lite bar - someone correct me if I'm wrong.

what is the name of the set that you got at walmart?

You're great! Thanks very much.

I'd still like opinions about adding weights to the body bar I have if anyone has done this.

thanks.

The Troy Lite bar is not padded - it is a slim all-metal bar. The Body Bar is probably too thick to put weights on, and it doesn't have stops on the bar to keep the weights in place, or collars/spring clips. Also, the Body Bar was not designed to hold additional weight and you might break it. I'm saying this from an engineering perspective - I am an engineer and I design structural components for a living. Stuff like this is designed with a specific intent and Body Bars are not designed with the intent to add weight to them.

I have the Troy Lite barbell set and I really really like it. Like others have said, you can also get cheap sets at Walmart and Target. Better safe than sorry - I would not add weights to a Body Bar.

I was about to mention the structural issue, but see someone beat me to it. Bars are usually rated to hold a maximum weight based on material, diameter, length, etc. I don't think the body bars are built for that - it would be awful if it snapped while you were using it!!!
