back pain with legs

Hi,
Can someone tell me if they have experienced any back pain when doing exercises like the pizza presses in B&G, or in GS legs. Especially when you have on leg on the step and you are pushing high up. My back gets strained. Any suggestions???

Thanks

Hi there!

I actually have the same problem. I start out fine but by the end I'm really hurting. I do the stretches that Cathe does in between sets but I don't really get relief unless I actually sit up. After I'm done my back doesn't hurt any more!

I'll be interested to see if anyone has any suggestions!

You might be emphasizing the height of the move too much.

Don't arch your back. Only push as high with your foot as you can while keeping your core engaged and in normal lordosis (natural curve). If you do this, you'll still feel it in your glutes without pressing too high (no higher than upper leg parallel to the ground).

I notice I have back pain when doing the 8 billion squats and the single leg squat. I have to stand up quick and go back down. When she does the side lunges where she forces her hand down I just stay up more. I really have to modify with B and G more than any other leg workout because of lower back pain. However as soon as I stand up the pain is gone. I don't know if it will ever get better.

be careful

Hi,

I agree with Kathryn that you are probably hyperextending the back.

I started with similar back pain type issues (especially with squats) and pushed it way too far and ended up with 2 herniated discs. My advice is not to do an exercise if it causes bad pain. Sometimes you end up doing cumulative damage and then the final injury is inevitable. It is not worth it.
