back exercises (? for Cathe)

Hello all!

Does anyone know of any back exercises which don't require a bentover position? This position really aggravates my lower back. I think the single arm row is still OK for me because I can support my back by putting the supporting arm on a stool. But, bentover double arm rows, T-bar rows, and deadlifts really hurt. I hate to give up doing back exercises. Is doing single arm rows enough?

Thanks!

Hi Melanie,

I'm not Cathe but I think I can answer your question. Single arm rows are a great option, especially since your weight can be supported in this position. I can see why you are experiencing discomfort with your other options. All of your baby weight is pretty much "hanging on your spine" so to speak. Another option is to do rows using an exercise tube with handles. These are called "Exertubes." You can order these from Spri Products (www.spriproducts.com). You will also need a door attachment. That way you can do them either standing or seated. You attach the tubing at the midpoint and create yourself a "simulated rowing machine." Does that make sense?

Hope this helps.

Hi Melanie! Sorry it took so long for me to get over here (thanks for jumping in Sheila). Yes, as Sheila said, single arm rows are great because your weight is supported. And yes, they are enough to keep your back conditioned at this time. Good Luck!
