Awesome Moms Weekly Check-in

Cathlete
Hi ladies!!! Okay, I'm not sure how long I'm considered "postpartum" and several of us ladies like to post here, even though our 'babies' are approaching/have approached the 1-yr mark & beyond. I"m hoping that we won't get boo-ed off using this forum. ;) I've checked out other forums & they're so busy to be cozy. :) I like to be cozy...

Justin is doing well. He's 8 mos already. He's FINALLY beginning to eat solids. He has 2 bottom teeth. This week we began to give him Cherrios. He's sooo cute.

My childcare lady is expecting 2 grandchildren this November, so November 30th will be her last day. I tried to get her to agree to watch Justin just one day/week...but I'm afraid that won't work. I'm at total peace, as I know God will provide someone awesome in her place. Dad has been watching Justin 75% of the time, so maybe he'll be able to take over completely. Anyway, if you can remember this in your prayer it'd be awesome!!!

Here's my workout week:
Sun: 5 mi run
Mon: off
Tue: off
Wed: 5 mi run + Ab Ripper
Thurs: 5 mi run
Fri: Step Blast (no challenge) + Ab Ripper
Sat: off

It's been so long since I've been on the forum that they made me login again....now I really feel like a stranger!! Melanie....they can't boo us off the forum, it's just unCathelike :) :) :) .

I -like you- just can't get into posting on the VF forum. And although I'm doing the P90X still.....I'm still a Cathe girl at heart and can't imagine posting on any other forum. Not to mention the fact that my computer is so slow that even if I wanted to post on the Beachbody forum (which I would probably do sooner than the VF forum board) my computer won't let me due to speed. Hopefully other moms will join in. If not....we'll have a fun time chatting Mel!! My five year old wasn't sick at all....must have been too much icecream the night before - we're not used to a lot of junk food here and I think it didn't agree with his tummy. No one else got anything!! YAH!!!! (sorry everyone else...that was an answer to an email!!)

I'm on week 5 of the P90X, second cycle. I'll have to look at my log to see exactly what I did this week, but it's basically:

Sunday: Yoga,
Monday: Chest, shoulder, and triceps
Tues: IMAX II, and Ab ripper, B&TR Leg work
Wed: Back and Biceps
Thursday: SJP/SB cardio 60 min. combl Ab ripper
Friday: Rest
Saturday: B&TR leg work and legs and back

I'm sticking pretty close to the original P90X with some Cathe cardio mixed in and BTR stuff (bun and thigh rocker - newly acquired). Can't wait for the HARDCORE to arrive.

Thanks for starting this Melanie!!! What an awesome mom you are!!

Briee

Thanks for posting Briee. I was afriad I was going to be the only one!!! ;)
I'm pretty beat today. Justin HAS to start sleeping through the night! I"m getting so burnt out. Some nights are better than others. Last night was one of the worst, he was up at least 4 times. I have to get ready for work in an hour, too short of a time to squeeze in a nap. I've already made a committment for tomorrow (my day off). It's all about mindsets, right?@?@ I am NOT tired. I WILL make it thorugh the week. :)

Hello Brie & Melanie! As long as any Mom can join then I would like to as well. My son is a little over 2 now (turned 2 in June) so I am waaay past postpartum. He is my only one right now, but DH and I are hoping to be pregnant with baby #2 by Christmas. We will see what the Lord has in store for us. All in all, parenting has been a wonderful experience. I love seeing my son, Alexander, experience everything for the first time. He actually has taught me a lot in such a short amount of time.

Melanie, sorry DS is not sleeping through the night yet. Xander did not sleep through the night until he was a year old. He would only drink 3 or 4 ozs of formula at a time and the doctor even had me put cereal in his bottle from the time he was 4 weeks old because he would not keep it down otherwise. He would then be hungry again in 2-3 hours. Hopefully Justin will find his niche soon and realize mommy needs some sleep.

Brie, I am like you about Cathe. I am the most comfortable posting on this forum even though I am at VF just as often. For a little while now I have been posting on the VF Moms check-in, but while everyone is really nice, I just don't feel like I belong there. Does that make sense?

Oh, workout wise I did Rhythmic Step last night. I have forgotten how much fun it is. Maybe I will do PUB tonight.

Thank you Melanie for starting this.

Welcome Kristi! Nice to see a new face (or name?). Rhythmic STep is lots of fun. Maybe I'll do it next. ;)

Hi Kristi, thanks for joining in. My 9 month old, Noah's, middle name is Alexander....love that name!!! I think I remember rhythmic step as being fun :p :p :p it's been soooo long since I've done it. Guess I'll have to work it back in sometime!

Melanie, I was going completely NUTS with Noah not sleeping through the night if you recall. I finally did what everyone told me to do and let him cry. It is hard for me to do this - very hard. He was stirring every half hour and I was sticking the binky in his mouth etc... giving him bottles. Now I'm making sure he gets a bottle around 8:00pm and sometimes I even give him one when I go to bed if it's later like 10pm. Then he has almost routinely got up and cried around 12 or 1, but I ignore him and he goes back to sleep now and sometimes he does it again around 3, but I wait for him to return to sleep and then around 4-5am I give him 6 ounces and then put him back in his crib asleep and go work out. He sleeps until around 6:30 or so and then gets up. I've had the same experience with nap time. He would wake after 30 minutes and I've had to let him cry and he goes back to sleep. The crying is getting shorter and sometimes he makes it through the night without crying....but he usually still cries a little. Don't know when this will stop. Again....the crying is getting shorter and he is getting himself back to sleep, but it took time to get to this point. Don't know if this helps or not. I hope he will be sleeping through the night without waking soon. I'll be praying that we both can get some sleep!!

Have you found a person to watch Justin while you work???

Briee

Hey where's Maggie???? Ohhhhh Maggie?? Shopaholic?? Emy?? Have they all left for VF???

Briee, so sweet of you to ask about Justin's childcare. ARe you moving to the area?!?!? ;) I have a couple of people in mind...not sure if they've been seeded their by the Almighty yet...I'm at total peace though. RoseAnne will be watching him until December so I have a couple of months. :)

Hi ladies!

Hoo boy! No I have not left for VF, I just have not been around very much on the web and when I am I am lurking at political sites, being a political junkie and the election only about a month away.

I am also sooo very busy, as we have started school and I am teaching 5th grade, 2nd grade, K, and keeping thing 1 and thing 2 happy and cleaning and cooking and yard work and what not. I have started getting up at 6:00 am and having coffee and doing my devotions and then working out from 6:30 to 7:30. It is going well, because then it is out of the way for the rest of the day, but it is taking some getting used too.

My weight has stalled again, but actually I'm pretty happy where I'm at (I never thought that I would say that, because I'm not bone thin or "cut" or anything), but I'm pretty happy...I'd like to lose about 1 more inch off of all my measurements, but if I don't that's okay.

Hi Briee! How's school going?

Hi Melani! I hope you find a wonderful child care provider. Keep us posted.

Hi Kristi! It's nice to meet you.

well,
take care
Maggie

Maggie....you're still here!!!!! I've missed you. Is there an election coming up that I should know about?????   Just kidding.....I love not having TV as I don't have to watch the pre-election junk as well as all the other junk that's probably going on about now. So email me regarding your views on who to vote for and why. We are having the eternal debate over who to vote for and whether or not we are "splitting the vote", "throwing our vote away" and why or why not we should/should not. I think you know what I mean!!

I was also having the eternal debate with myself this morning over whether or not to do the AB ripper. "do I really have to do it this morning, is anyone really going to see my abs, can I just eat a little less today and my abs will be even better, can I just do the first set and skip every other one, should I just "bring it" and quit thinking about not doing it....which is what I should have done....but I didn't, one of those other voices won somehow. Maybe I'll do it later in the day...yeah right. x( x( x( x(

MelANIE, I WAS GOING TO SUGGEST WE START A NEW CHECKIN HERE. Glad YOU DID. My computer was dead for nearly a month but is finally out of the computer hospital. Ms. Alexis weighed in at 14.4 pounds, 27 inches at her 1 year check up. She is now wearing 6-9 month outfits. What size is Bardric in now 2T? Suprisingly my weight has dropped to about 5 pounds lighter than before pregnancy, i keep thinking my scale is wrong. I have been doing firms and cathes this week. Today (Thurs)was firm lower body split. I can't remember last week's workouts . I didn't abandon you gals,my computer died. Although prior to my computer's illness, I was checkin in at vf i felt lost in the crowd there and didn't feel missed being gone for 3 weeks. I yeah, i now have a new nephew born Sept. 9 weighing almost 10 pounds at birth. The bet is that he will surpass Alexis in weight by christmas.
melanie, any luck with childcare? Getting any sleep? Is justin teething? If he is try some baby motrin, if not check with your pediatrician, is he waking up for comfort? Have you tried ignoring him during the night to see if he falls back to sleep? Is he in his own room? if not you really may want to move him, it may improve his sleep. Sounds exhausting for you. alexis usually sleeps from 8:30 pm-6:30 am, occasionally waking once crying for a few minutes. she finally got teeth, 2 in front.

You guys are such Awesome Moms & forum companions!!!! Missed you Elyse. Glad to see your post. Let's see if I can answer some ?'s.

1) RoseAnne has agreed to watch Justin 1 day/week until end of November. I"m not going to worry about things until closer to then. Perhaps DH will be able to handle all the days by then!!!

2) Justin's in his own bed (despite DH's cries for him to be in our bed)!!!

3) Justin has 2 teeth now...don't think it's teething.

4) I've tried Motrin & Tylenol...doesn't seem to help unless he's teething.

5) I've let him cry for up to 10min at night (again DH hates this & thinks I'm a neglectful Mom for doing this). Sometime he goes back to bed.

6) When he wakes up I nurse him. Comfort nursing?@? Maybe. He seems to drink an awful lot. I've been trying to feed him solids at night & then keep him up later. Now I find that he sleeps in later & I oversleep in mornings. That's not working!!!

New plan: I"m going to attempt a schedule. Hopefully baby Justin is ready for this.

I was actually so exausted that I asked my boss for the day off today. He's so wonderful (may God bless him) he gave me the day off. I've been cleaning, baking & bonding with my kids today. DH needed some attention too. I'm going to catch up on my Bible study too. I was in serious need of TLC & housekeeping (internal & external). :) I've even allowed myself a week "off" of exercising. I worked out just two days this week..not allowing myself to feel bad about it either!!!! Next week is a new week!!!!

Thanks so much for all your support ladies. Ya'll are the BEST!!!

Melanie,
Aren't dads such softies? My hubby like yours has trouble letting Alexis cry it out. justin still may be teething. Alexis got her bottom 2 teeth and now the top two are coming in but maybe there is no real answer. Trying a schedule may help. How hard for you. I am glad you were able to take a day off to rest and i am sure your body needed the rests from exercise.

Hey friends!

Briee, I just had to log in again too, it's been so long since I've been on here!

Anyway, Briee, first I would like to butt in with my opinion (but, you did ask for input afterall :+ !) I am voting for Michael Peroutka, Constitution Party candidate. You should check him out at www.Peroutka2004.com. Maggie and Melanie, you should too, I can see from your posts that he may fit with your beliefs, etc. I just saw him speak last night. It was so inspirational. I want everyone to know that you don't have to choose between the 2 major parties (which when you look at them they really aren't that different anymore - they may spout off verbally about seemly opposing view points, but it's the actions and not the words that affect the lives of the American people! -- and their actions aren't all that different -- they both will creater bigger government and a heavier debt load on us citizens, which is just continually devaluing our dollar, don't get me started!) Anyway his slogan is God, Family, Republic... which is to say he is for Honoring God, Protecting the Family, and Restoring the Republic. You guys should email me and we can have some good discussions. I don't want to get into it further on here - since people are prone to getting upset (you know, some one from the open forum could wander into our moms section and start something - those open discussioners love a good online fight!)

Shopaholic, I am way in awe of you being 5 pounds under! I think I am permanently at least 5 pounds over! When will it all come off??! I'm not bummed about it or anything, just REALLY ANNOYED...

Anyway, I have gone this far and failed to mention the most important part - my little guy. Max is all over the place. Today, he took a few steps on his own, moving between pieces of furniture. I tried to get him to do it again, but to no avail. "Forcing" them never works does it, they make these progressions when it suits them. And, the best part is, Max sleeps for 10-12 hours per night. No throwing tomatoes at me! I feel for those of you still getting up at night!

Anyway, I'm glad our check-in has been revived. I vow to check-in often!

Hi to the other moms I haven't "met" yet!

Oh Emy where do I start. FIRST....... DUCK...or you'll get hit with a tomatoe, many tomatoes!!!!! (noah was up twice screaming last night, but he did sleep longer the night before - thus a smaller tomatoe would have been chucked at you yesterday).

AND thanks a lot......here's a scene from our home this morning. I'm at the top of the stairs yelling down "Hey Brian, guess who Emy's voting for" And the debate begins again. We were just given a DVD about Peroutka and my husband had a "discussion" with the other men at a meeting on Wednesday morning. He is concerned that Peroutka hasn't had any real experience in leadership and why doesn't he go the route of running for mayor, governor and then run for the presidency. ie gain some leadership experience and his example was... would we bet on him if he was racing in the Indy 500 if he hadn't any experience racing, but he was Godly. Okay we don't place bets here but you get the picture. Of course David hadn't any "real fighting experience other than lions and tigers until he fought Goliath", but things have changed a bit since then although God has not. And God is going to appoint into leadership the person he wants in leadership which incidently happened to be Herod when Jesus was born - he wasn't too cool of a guy if you ask me (herod i mean). So.... should we vote for the man we really want or the lessor of two evils seeing that one of them is going to be in office unless "peroutkians" (is that a word?) have a major unification which I wish (and my dh wishes as well) would happen.

Thanks for posting Emy....I have missed you!!! I love someone who's not afraid to speak up and who's not worried about being blasted by those open discussioners :7 :7 :7 . And the one person who could blast you to kingdom come and very eloquently I might add is Aquajock and you are so very tricky because you posted this under the "awesome moms" sight which AJ would never venture to go and CAN'T - because she is NOT a mom. }( }( }( (AJ knows I think the world of her, as liberal as she may be - she is one of the kindest people around and she likes squirrels). And I'd love to vote for Peroutka, but am still undecided - thanks for the information!!!!

I'll shut up now. Thanks Mel for starting up the Mom's checkin...you had no idea what you were getting into did you? Hey who are you voting for anyway??

Briee

To Briee

Briee, First I must say, I am glad and shocked that you have heard of Peroutka. For someone who lives in a quite conservative area, no one around here has heard of him, nor do they care it seems. I feel like I am surrounded by people who think if you are conservative, then it is your duty to vote for the Republican party. Well, anyway, I am solidly behind the Constitution Party platform, and the only way this party is going to get anywhere is with support. So, maybe this election isn't ours, but I hope it can be influential in the future. Plus, when I heard him speak the other night, I learned that there are 38 Constitution Party candidates running for other offices in my state of Utah alone.

Anyway, I am curious what exactly you think of him (and I'm assuming Brian would be your husband, right?) and is his lack of political experience your only doubt concerning him? I think that career politicians are out of touch with the people. Maybe it would even be better if every elected office were limited to one term! Anyway, it's just fun to find out that you've heard of him!

RE: To Briee

Emy, so nice to hear from you again. I must confess I am not big into politics but we vote democrat. My husband is a federal employee and the republicans never give them raises, whereas the democrats do. I vote democrat as democrats usually support human services. i give you credit for voicing your beliefs here. You talk of max getting into everything, as I typed this, Alexis pulled apart a casette tape.
I won't throw tomatoes at you Emy. Alexis sleeps about 10 hours from 8:30-6:30 then takes at least a one hour nap from 8:30-9:30 am when i workout. I am assuming you are still breastfeeding, my body held onto the pounds while I was nursing. I can't say for sure if I am thinner than before pregnancy since I am going only by doc's office weight, i got so frustrated before pregnancy that I stopped weighing myself, but I do think I have at least gone down a few pounds which is probably due to less eating and more exercise. (although i do still eat all day)

RE: To Briee

I"m not a very political gal. I'll be voting for Bush. ;)

RE: To Briee

Hello you fantastically fit moms!!!!! You ARE an inspiration!!!!!! I eaves drop (that is what I feel like I am doing anyway:) on your discussions when I feel that I may never lose another ounce of fat. :)

Emy, thanks for the info and link on Peroutka! I do agree with his position on various topics, but the Constitution Party is against the foundation of my employment. :( Not that I agree with the views and opoinions of any candidate 100%. Anyway, I plan to email this link to some of my friends who may find him the best candidate.

Take care ladies!

RE: To Briee

Shopaholic....I'm chucking tomatoes at you too!!! You guys are so blessed to have babies that sleep at night. Sometimes I try to figure out why a workout is so good or so bad and I think about what I ate the day before....did I get enough carbs, protein etc.... What I believe has MORE to do with a good workout is number of hours slept the previous night.....which seem to be few lately!!!!!

On a good note, Noah has been eating, imagine that. He hates "baby" oatmeal, but will eat my normal oatmeal mixed with bananas and he's eaten some sweetpotato/apple/rice cereal baby food as well. Not a lot, but it's a start. He seems to like texture instead of mushy food. He has NO teeth yet. My other babies were all nursed and got their teeth around 7 months (painful biting at times)and here I finally have a bottle fed baby and he has NO teeth and I can't feel anything coming anytime soon. (sometimes life doesn't seem fair ;) ;) ). But he's such a sweetheart....can't complain.

Emy...I didn't watch the DVD ;( ;( so sorry. I have received info second hand from dh and I should really watch it myself. I do agree with you, but I have a baby screaming and need to post again later. Where is Maggie....I'm betting she is voting for Peroutka as well.

Briee

Tomato Shooting!!

Bombs away!!! Justin sleeps in about 3-4hr increments. :( Typically I nurse him (he feverishly eats) then he goes right back to bed. I'm determined to get myself on some sort of schedule, then Justin. My alarm is going off at 630am...with plans of Justin waking up at 7am. Wish me luck...

Shopaholic, you are amazing with your weight. One morning I went for a run w/o eating breakfast. Then I had a bout of diarrhea. I weighed myself before I got in the shower and I was 5-lbs lighter than normal, does that count? }( My body's pretty happy at my current weight, it doesn't fluctuate much. I do have some sponge in the middle still...
