August Jogglers

Good August everybody!

Due to last week's injury I am taking things slow. My left knee was a bit painful during my yoga workout this morning. As a consequence, I am taking some ibuprofen and I'm making a rotation centered around hiking because that caused the least amount of discomfort. I'm going to try some stationary cycling this afternoon.

Happy August!! Can you believe it? We are in the second half of the year.

My goals for the next couple of months are primarily centered around plenty of cardio, flexibility training, and weight loss (fat loss.) I'm going back to my trusty calorie counting, clean eating, and time in my THR closer to 60 min. rather than 30-45 min. per session. I'm only using the cycling for the next week to help recover from my fall. After that, its all Cathe, road work, and yoga.

Catch ya later!!

Alisha

Happy August!!

I'm back from vacation and fully back in the swing of things. I had a wonderful time at the beach. We rented a very beautiful beach house that had this incredible lagoon pool with a rock waterfall. I spent lots of time in that pool. The weather was nice although very hot and a little rainy. The rain helped to keep the temps a little cooler which was nice. I only went to the beach 2 days because it was too hot to sit in the sand for very long. The pool was much nicer. I ate like I was on vacation but I managed to workout every day by either running or using my kettlebells. I was in the pool at least twice a day for over an hour each time. I did lots of swimming, swimming underwater and also handstands in the pool.

August will be much of the same workout wise. I have 2 races scheduled this month - a 5K on the 6th and a 10.5K on the 27th. My long runs will be 10 miles each week on Sunday with smaller runs during the week. I find it hard to do runs during the week after work when it is so hot so I just doing my 200m or 400m runs with other exercises in between. Doing a 3 or 4 mile run after work is a waste of time for me. So far this is working. Eating will continue to be healthy - with a cheat meal once a week.

Here is my workout for today.

Sparrow's Dozen
12 Rounds
12 Deadlifts
12 Pull ups
12 Push ups
12 Ball Slams

Alisha ~ I sorry about your fall. That sounds like something I would do. You are wise to ease back into your workout slowly.

Tricia ~ Hope your pinkie finger is healed.

Here is the picture of the pool. Mom got into the pool everyday and got in as far as her upper chest. That was HUGE for here. She was really scared. Also she saw her radiologist today and got a clean bill of health - NED (No Evidence of Disease). Yay!

Yay! The whole gang is back together again!

Alisha - If I were to win $100,000, I'd sell my POS house, take the loss and move! I'd outfit my gym and buy clothes that fit with whatever is left over! lol

Sorry your leg is still bothering you! You have a smart plan in place though! Hope it's better soon!

Jane - That's a beautiful pool! I wouldn't have wanted to leave! Good luck on your run this Saturday! The pinkie is better, but still numb. I washed a ton of dishes tonight and when I went to dry my hands, the scab was gone! I almost panicked because it was a deep cut and I didn't think the scab would be anywhere near ready to fall off. It's all pink healthy flesh underneath, but I think I'll be bandaging it back up again when I go back to work tomorrow. There's a flap of skin on top, but it's still live, so I can't cut it or anything right now. At least I can work out again! Did P90X and Insanity Cardio Abs. Unfortunately, it's so stinking hot today (90+) that I overheated some towards the end of P90X and I had to take breaks during Cardio Abs. Nauseous and mildly woozy. I think I'm also a bit out of shape, too from my 2 weeks of laziness! My strength is still there though! Didn't lose much of that!

Have a great night you two!

Hi Everyone,

Here is my workout for tonight.

Workout #1: 30 sec work / 25 sec rest / rounds 3
Swings: Heavy, medium and light kettlebells- switch the weight of the kettlebell after each 25 sec of rest.
Workout #2: Reps: 15-10-5 Rounds:3
1- Thruster R/L
2- KB Bicep Curls
3- Press R/L
4- Reverse Lunges R/L
5- Row R/L

I took a rest day. My hammies were singing to me after the workout on Monday.

It is going to be a hot one tonight. Currently it's 95 degrees with a heat index of 103.

Hi Tricia!

Alisha - I hope your leg is feeling better.

I took yesterday as a rest day. My left knee is purple, its like I took a purple marker and made a bulls eye right in the middle of it. The cool part is, it works fine. Today will be some cycling. Probably about 40 min. I'm spending the day studying for that recruitment. Today is audio day.

Tricia- that sounds like a great plan. I will go buy a winning lottery ticket and then all of us can get new gyms!

Jane- Thats a great looking workout!

Hi girls!

Dang I keep forgetting to check in!

Alisha - Ouch! That must be one ugly bruise! I've had one of those before. Glad your knee isn't damaged! Our lotto is up to 185M right now. I should buy a ticket, but I know it would be waste of a perfectly good $1 or $1.50 or whatever they cost now! lol

Jane - Great workout! I'm so glad we're out of the 90s! We came close today - 86. At least it's cooling down at night! We're hitting the 60s and that feels nice!

Thinking of focusing on kettlebells and running next rotation. Jane, do you think that would be okay?

I took last night off because my arms were sore from Chest & Back on Monday and last night was supposed to be Shoulders & Arms! Can't believe I was so sore, but I guess I should have expected it since I had been so lax in July. Feeling pretty good today and completed Day 3 of my first week. I'll make it up over the weekend and be right back on schedule on Monday. I HAVE to stay on track! Even with the challenge(s), I just am not uber-motivated. There's no real joy and excitement like there used to be for me. I'm doing well with my food though. Why can't I get both working together?

Oh, well. Hoping that shifts soon!

I just typed a long post and lost it.

Here is the condensed version because I don't feel like retyping it all.

Workout last night was all core work with and without kettlebells - planks, sit ups, etc.

Alisha ~ I'm glad your knee is just a pretty color and not hurt. I have a bruise on my arm and I don't know where it came from. Unfortunately at this point it is not as pretty as yours.

Tricia ~ I think a running/kettlebell rotation would be awesome. Go for it.
What is the deal with the lack of motivation for working out? We are going to be the big 5-0!!!!!!! Get on it!! I guess my biggest motivator is seeing my mom. She is so out of shape and her recovery is much slower because of her physical condition. She is a reminder to me to stay fit...NO MATTER WHAT. Besides I have no one to take care of me as I get more..um...mature.

No workout tonight. I have a race tomorrow morning that is going to be really HOT!! It was 84 degrees this morning at 6:30 am!! YIKES! Luckily it is only a 5K.

TGIF!!!

Jane- Yikes, that sounds like a super hot race. You better run really fast to get a bit of a wind going for yourself. I hope your bruise is feeling better.

Tricia-I think KBs and running sounds like a good combo. I'm having a hard time being motivated too. Its not easy when it takes so much work just to keep from gaining let alone the amount of work it takes to lose a pound. The benefit/cost analysis seems be pegging on my 'jeez that sux' meter.:p;)

I'm recovering from all my injuries. My leg is slowly getting better. On Fri I smashed my elbow, twice, and now thats a lovely smooshy consistency. I'm not able to do yoga cause of my knee and elbow. I can hike. I can do step. So, thats what I'm going to do. I'm also working on eating clean this week. I have a home roast chicken in the fridge, a watermelon, and lots of veggies to keep me out of other things (like cookies, ice cream, chips.) Its hard because when its warm I want to eat salty things. I guess I should just salt my veggies. Somehow, its less fun than potato chips:rolleyes:

The race yesterday was interesting. It was a trail run and it was nice...no exposed roots or anything but apparently it had rained the night before. There was a pond that we had to run around and they warned us that it could be muddy. I didn't notice that there was a whole lot of mud but when I started running around the pond, the dirt (more like sand) started sticking to my shoes. It was like running with cement feet. I had to stop 4 times to claw the stuff off of my shoes. That definitely slowed me down...a lot. It was better when we got back on the trail although I just wasn't really feeling the run. I did one of my worst times. I'm thinking the course was a little longer than a 5K because it was not certified. It was HOT too. The race didn't start until 8:30 and it was well over 80 degrees at that point.

This morning I got up early and ran 8 miles. I felt much better today and was finished with the run before it got really hot. I was going to go swimming this afternoon but it got rained out.

Alisha - My bruise is nearly gone. I'm glad your leg is getting better but YIKES...sorry about the elbow. I'm glad you are able to schedule your workouts around your injuries.

This weekend has gone by really fast. Hope everyone had a great one.

Hi ladies!

Stephen was changing my browser for me tonight and I'm still trying to find my way around!

Jane - I know, right? This is going to be my only week slacking! I swear! I'm in this challenge and I've got to stay FOCUSED! I will, too!

I hate when I lose a long post! Happens every time I have a lot to say! :confused:Sorry your race was icky! Guess they can't all be great. I'm going to start planning out my rotation for after P90X/Insanity a little bit at a time.

Alisha - Sorry about your injuries! They really suck, don't they? At least you can still do something! I am enjoying my healthy eating, but today was pretty bad.

Stephen's birthday is tomorrow and I baked his cake today. I had more than I should have, but I used the excuse that after today I won't be able to have any. I won't eat anymore cake! His birthday dinner is on hold until next weekend since the restaurant he wants to go to has been closed for vacation and opens again at the end of this week. It's a french bistro, so I'm not expecting to be able to get a clean meal. It'll be the last big hurrah until my birthday at the end of the challenge, so I should be able to stay really clean from here on out.

I WILL stay focused now. Tomorrow is P90X Chest & Back. I'm supposed to do Insanity Cardio Abs, but I just never really feel like I'm getting anything out of it. I picked up Jackie Warner's Xtreme Abs this weekend for $13, so I'm going to try it this week. If I like it, I'll alternate that with Ab Ripper X and Cardio Abs and mix in some Cathe Ab Circuits as well. I'm getting this body lean and my body fat down this time! I really am and I'm counting on you two to help keep me on target!

Have a great night! I'll let you know how it goes tomorrow!

Tricia- You Got it!! I will be happy to keep my eye on you! I am trying to stay focused on my clean eating too. We are in this together.:D

Jane-I love trail runs! Those are so much fun.

I did a Leslie Sansone 3 mile dVD this morning. My left knee only bothered me twice. My elbow is getting better. I still have an ugly bruise on my left leg. Tomorrow will be the original Step Reebok VHS tape with Gin Miller.

I figure I would rest my legs after my long run yesterday.

Tricia ~ Happy Birthday to Stephen (a fellow Leo). I bet the cake you made tastes great.

You look great the way you are Tricia. Let me know how you like Jackie's workout. I don't have any of her workouts but they look good from the clips that I have seen.

Alisha ~ I'm glad you are healing. Take care.

Alisha - You poor thing! You must look all beat up! Glad your workout went well. I love Gin Miller! I used to have some of her workouts. Wonder if they're still packed somewhere . . .

Jane - Awesome workout! I'm tired just reading it! Of course, that could have something to do with P90X tonight.

Yes, ladies, I did my workout! I really liked Jackie's ab workout! I was having some nausea again and feeling woozy - not as bad as last week - it's just so hot in the house! I managed to get through the ab workout though. I did the standing one and I can see how it can work really well. You do have to focus and contract, but the moves are efficient. I'm going to use that one this week, then Ab Ripper X next week.

I've always heard great things about her workouts and want some of her other ones, but thought this would be a good one to try first since I hate abs so much!

Tricia- I hated that hot weather + stomach thing when I was living in FL. You did a tough thing, working threw it.

Jane- Thats a tough looking workout.

As soon as I find my workout pants, I can do my VHS tape, probably late in the afternoon. I have no idea where those pants are. I've looked everywhere.

Alisha - Are you home alone? Workout in your skivvies! lol

I managed to get 2 days in a row done! Yay! Insanity Plyo Cardio Circuit today. Sweated up a puddle, but no nausea today. Whew! I can usually make it through the first 2 days. Let's see if I can do 3 tomorrow! P90X Shoulders & Arms tomorrow!

Hi Jane!

Caught Peanut outside eating a squirrel today at lunch. Had to run out and grab her or she would have eaten the whole thing! Luckily, she only ate the head! Called my vet to make sure there was nothing I needed to watch for. She seems fine. Beagle has an iron stomach!

Today will be a Leslie Sansone dvd with some band work. I enjoyed my step workout yesterday. Tomorrow will be another Gin Miller workout. Today I am focusing on keeping my eats in check. I think I need some Cathe brand measuring cups!:p That way I can say to myself, "Measure, measure." its like "work work" only less fun;)

Tricia- I am home alone, but I found my pants, they were at the bottom of 3 hampers worth of clothes. Peanut should be on Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern, she could be a star:D

Hi Jane!

Alisha

Here's my workout for tonight. I took a rest day yesterday.

2 Rounds - 21-15-9 reps of:
Pull ups
Push ups
Squats
sit ups
walking lunges
200m run after each set of 21-15-9

Alisha ~ I'm glad you found your pants. I hate when that happens

Tricia ~ I'm glad you got to Peanut before it was too late. Yikes!! We had a cat that used to hang around our house. One day I found him eating a lizard. Yuck!!

Hi ladies!

Better late than never, right?

Alisha - Glad you found your pants, too! I hate when they end up in the laundry basket! Cathe measuring cups is a brilliant idea!

Jane - I like this workout! Looks like one I could live through! lol

Yes, Peanut could do a travel & food show! She'd literally eat anything!

Well, did not get to Shoulders & Arms today, sigh. Had to stop at the grocery after work and didn't get home until 6 p.m. If I had worked out, I wouldn't have been starting dinner until 8 p.m. I still didn't eat until almost 9:30, but that was because I got too hot from cooking and lost my appetite for a bit. Only ate a little since it was too late. I made a fish stir fry with veggies and some brown rice for me and jasmine rice for Stephen. I'll get my upper body workout in tomorrow or do Insanity Cardio Recovery and do Shoulders & Arms and Legs on Friday. I'm off so I can do that. Stephen wants to play 18 holes of golf tomorrow, so I'll be hard pressed to get anything else done. That'll take us all day!

Have a great night you two!

Tricia-Thats a show I would watch.

Jane- Tastes like chicken?

I did get 3 miles yesterday. I'm taking today as a rest day. I'm tired and I need to pay attention to other things right now. I have that interview/exam on Monday.

I've joined the injured check in too. There are so many of us coming back from injuries. My Dad twisted his ankle on Monday. My brother had a migraine yesterday. Sheesh.

Here is my workout for tonight. It is going to be HOT today but the humidity is low so it doesn't seem as bad somehow.

Workout: 30 sec work / 20 sec rest / 4 sets (example: Swing for 30 sec – Rest 20 sec- Triple Crush for 30 sec. Repeat 4X)
1- Swing / Triple Crush
2- Swing / Kettlebell Squats
3- Swing / Clean & Press R/L
4- Swing / Upright Row
5- Swing / Thruster R/L

Tricia ~ Enjoy your time off and your golf game. I need to send you another workout. I will try to send it tonight. For some reason I have been very busy since I got back from vacation.

Alisha ~ Enjoy your rest day. You are going to ace the interview/exam! Hope all your injuries and boo boos get better soon!

Take care!
