August Jogglers 2012

Whoa. It kind of blows my mind, all the back to school sales everywhere. When I was a kid school started in September. Now, I know one little boy who starts next week. It kind of stinks to be him.

Well, welcome to your Fall. I know that technically Fall does not start for a while, but don't we tend to think of the year in terms of Fall semester? Well, I do.

So. 5 months. Its time to get on the 'Make it great' train!!Whoot Whoot!!! All Aboard!!!

I took a rest day. We watched the Olympics on DVR most of the day. Tomorrow will be a joggle/6 pack Abs.

I hope that both of you had a great weekend!!

Alisha

Happy Monday!

Saturday I ran a 5K trail race and I managed to get 1st place in my age group. They gave plants as awards so I got a nice plant that I gave to mom. The first plant they gave me had a spider web in it and a HUGE spider. I had them give me a new one.

I did over 4 minutes faster this year than last year. This was mainly due to the fact that it had rained last year and there was one area that slowed me down. This year they put down mulch which wasn't exactly the best choice because it was chunky and I was afraid I was going to lose my balance and trip so I went back and forth between the outer edges which was bumpy sand and the chunky mulch. Luckily this was only a small area and the rest of the course was nice, flat and easy to run on.

Sunday morning I ran 10.7 miles. It should have been only 10 but the train schedule was not in are favor and instead of waiting for the trains to go through we took a detour and ended up running 2 large hills. The weather was actually nice...not so hot and humid. Then I went to mom's house and worked in the yard for over a hour. Mom did good too with lots of bending and pulling.

Today will be a leg workout...my usual squat workout.

Alisha ~ In our town school starts TODAY!!! They do get out on May 24 so I think it works out the same. We started after Labor Day and got out in June. I would hate going in August because I would not want to spend my birthday in school.

Hi Tricia!

I am taking a rest day today.

Alisha ~ I just went back and read the last couple of posts for July. I'm sorry to hear about all that has been happening. I hope your brother is feeling better.

Hi Tricia!

Yesterday I went for a long hike with some friends and we saw a bunny. He was so little and fluffy. I could have held him in my hand. This morning, I did Low Max premix intervals 4-7 and then 15 min. of 6 pack Abs. I plan to do some yoga this afternoon. Tomorrow will be a rest day. I have an OSHA seminar. I need to go to the laundromat this morning. Our washing machine is dead for certain.

Jane- Thanks! I appreciate it. Congrats on 1st place in your age group:eek: I would have given the spider back too! I'm glad that your Mom is feeling up to working in the yard, thats really good. I would hate for school to start in August, it did when I went to college. I don't remember grammar school or high school starting that soon.

Tricia- Hi!!! Had a good workout lately?

Alisha

Happy August ladies!

I know I haven't checked in this week. The usual stuff. I've been running errands, then coming home and cooking, taking care of the pets, then sitting on my butt for an hour or two catching up on my tv shows.

Jane - Congrats on 1st place in your race this weekend! Woo-Hoo! My squash, zucchini and cucumbers are taking over my garden! Ack! Oh, well. I'm not sure my tomatoes and peppers will have room or the sun to come up any more, but, by jove, I'm going to give it my all!

Alisha - I keep missing the train! Send a schedule please! lol I started a new challenge in group and I'm going to be the worst one for the first week! That's okay. I have my plan together and I still have the rest of this week to get it going!

I am going for a 4 mile run this afternoon unless it rains but so far so good.

Alisha ~ We have bunnies in our yard all the time. They are so cute and apparently they love eating our grass.

Sorry to hear about your washer.

Tricia ~ Great job on the planting. I have to get out and weed my beds in the front of the house but it keeps raining.

Jane - I'd love a little rain every evening so I can stop going out to water! Hope you had a good run!

We had a bunny by the tee mound golfing one night and it just sat there munching while all 4 of us teed off! He didn't move until we started down to the fairway! They're all over the golf course where we play. Nice to have a little furry company!

I'm glad that's one thing I have not had to do - weeding! Love the raised beds, but something ate my tomatillos. : (

I think I'll do a little something different next year. Maybe no big bushy veggie plants and more other things. Not sure yet.

Hi Alisha! - Hope everything is settling down for you! New washer yet?

It's Stephen's birthday today, so we're having sushi and sake, then his favorite cake, yellow sheet cake with plain chocolate frosting. He's playing Halo right now, so we'll eat soon!

Have a great night you two!

Tricia- No new washer yet. We are trying one last thing first.

Yesterday was a rest day. I went to a seminar on OSHA and then to a HP book club mtg. Now, I'm feeling poorly, some GI bug. :( Tomorrow (later today) is supposed to be a Cathe but it depends on my insides.

Jane- The bunnies ate my flowers again, all the way down to the nub. :( I keep hoping that I will get flowers but my poor plant doesn't stand a chance. I'm thinking about putting it inside unless I'm outside to plant sit. I may need a sling shot.:p

Alisha

I did take Thursday as a complete rest day. I don't normally do that, but I was so sick. Today is a hike down by the Parkway. I will try to do some yoga this afternoon. Its supposed to be super hot. 105 deg. F.

Keep cool!!

Alisha

Ok...so it rained on Wednesday. I only ran for about a mile and then it starting raining, thundering and lightening so I had to pack it in. I went inside and did leg work, abs and some stability ball stuff. I actually did about 10 pikes on the stability ball. I haven't done those in a while and usually I could only do 3 or so.

Here is my workout from last night:

6 Rounds
10 – H2H Swings
10 - Double Kettlebell Press
10 - Halos
10 – Renegade Rows
10 – Alternate Reverse Lunges (5/5)
10 – Pull ups

This will be my workout for tonight. I hope it doesn't rain.

400m Run
100 walking lunges (50 each leg)
200m Run
100 jump rope
200m Run
50 squats
200m Run
50 Swings
400m Run

[FONT=&quot]Alisha ~ I'm glad you're feeling better today. 105 is hot but I would rather have that than the 90's humid, rainy stuff that we are having now. I think we should trade because I think you need to the rain, right?

The bunnies ate my red flowers and the purple flowers off another plant as well. They apparently did not like the white flowers because they did not eat those. The deer pee on my mom's bushes and it kills them. We don't have that problem though.

Tricia ~ It has been nice that we don't have to worry about watering but I don't like to miss my runs. It can rain during the day when I'm at home or during the night. I think next week it is suppose to dry out a bit which will be nice.

I hate weeding.

Happy Belated Birthday to Stephen. Wish him Happy Birthday from another Leo!! I bet that cake was yummy!!!

I took Saturday/Sunday as a rest day. I was just wore out. Today was a hike on the parkway. I plan to go do some laundry at the laundromat. We just ordered a new washing machine. Its all so very sad because we spent so much time and effort trying to fix the old one ourselves. My brother did the brunt of it himself and I did the washing at the laundromat. I smashed my right index finger in the car door this morning and it is hurting. Normally I try to get some yoga in, but I don't see that happening for at least a day or two. Its ok, I can do hula or Belly dancing instead. It is so hot out there. Its 92 deg. already and its only 11:18 am. This evening I'm going to my sci/fi book club meeting. I hope we don't melt. Tomorrow will be a rest day. I have a class on business writing and grammar. They say we are supposed to use just one space after a period, but I was taught to use two when I was young. I don't know what to think anymore.

Tricia- I hope that you don't think we need you to work out before you can check in. Honestly, we don't mind one way or the other.

Jane-Good job on those pikes on the ball, those are not as easy as they look.

Alisha

Happy Tuesday!

I missed a couple of days.

Saturday - Rest day

Sunday - 10.5 mile run

Monday - 320 squats plus deadlifts, calf raises and farmers walk around the block.

Today - Rest Day

I'm so excited because I got a workout tire last night. A co-worker of my sister's got one but didn't want it so I took it. It is 60 pounds (truthfully I probably could have a heavier one but this is fine for now). So now I will be flipping that thing, dragging it (she put a hook it in and gave me the chain that goes with it), hitting it with a sledgehammer and jumping in and out of it. I've wanted one for a long time. I can't believe I can get so excited over a stupid tire!!!

I am counting down the days because I go on vacation on the 26th. So I only have 8 more days of work (I'm taking next Monday off).

Alisha ~ Good for you for taking some rest days. That is really important. I'm sorry you have to get a new washer but you did all you could to save the old one. Sorry about slamming your finger in the car door. I have done that a couple of times.

I always put 2 spaces after a period. I was taught that way as well and now it's just second nature. Enjoy your class today.

Tricia ~ What Alisha said. We miss you!

I did laundry in the heat yesterday. I thought it was pretty clever because I dried it there and not in my house. Tomorrow will be a jog/walk and some yoga. I haven't been stretching out and I'm paying.

Jane- A tire of your very own!!! Its a dream come true:p Only a Cathelete would completely agree with that statement. Those are some great workouts!!

Alisha

Change of plans: tomorrow will be SG because its a 'spare the air' day. I won't be going outside much to avoid dying from the bad air.

I will do SG this morning or later this afternoon. I have to take my Dad's truck to the shop to get the locking mechanism fixed. It is so super smokey out here. We have 5 fires in northern CA right now. Its awful. Tonight I'm supposed to have a meditation class downtown. Tomorrow will also be a Cathe workout, I just don't know which one, maybe LIC (new).

Alisha

I am going for a 4 mile run tonight. Hopefully it will not rain.

Alisha ~ Sorry about the fires and the smoky conditions. I remember a couple of years back when we had lots of smoke from fires east of us. The area where I live does lots of control burning that helps to keep wildfires at bay around here. We are surrounded by lots of plantation land so we do get smoky conditions but it's for a positive reason.

Hope all goes well with your dad's truck.

Sorry ladies!

I never realized what a pain it is to need a desktop computer! I'm spoiled! My laptop died and I can't see all the posts when I use my iPad for the forum, so I hold out for the desktop. Either I'm busy with other things then just want to sit and read or veg with the tv or Stephen's busy on it. Eventually, I'll get a new laptop, but that's going to be a while!

It's official - my garden has been completely overtaken by the squash, zucchini and cucumbers. My tomatillos were taken by some bug and my tomatoes are gone. I have used all the lettuce and just harvested the rest of my kale. Oddly, my pepper plants still look healthy, but they're under the huge squash leaves! They might still make it. I saw my first cucumber coming out the other day, but none of my other ones have produced yet. I hope I at least get lots of squash, zukes and cukes out of this!

Jane - There's a white powdery stuff on some of the leaves. Any ideas how to get rid of that naturally?

Still no workouts for me, but I have gold tonight and I'm determined to get my head wrapped around my workout plan! Really! Someday! Sigh. I'm such a wembler!

Alisha - Stay safe! Hope they get those fires out soon! How'd you make out with your dad's truck? Hope they didn't charge you a fortune!

Jane - I'm jealous of your tire! You have all the cool toys! Maybe that's what I need - more cool toys! Yeah, Stephen won't go for it. I'm not using the toys I have now! I shall live vicariously through you! I have vacation next week. Not doing much exciting. Golf, maybe some surfing. The boat should be here around Wednesday. I'll take pictures if I can get some!

Have a great day you two!

Tricia- Don't worry about it. I was just worried what had happened to you. Ever hear that terrible song from that bad movie "Attack of the killer tomatoes!" Thats what I'm thinking right now.

Jane-How was your run?

My Dad's truck is in a tragic kind of a way. Its going to be 600 bucks when all is said and done. In the meantime, he has a 'loaner' vehicle which is a white mini-van. Its funny: my Dad, driving a minivan.

I did the intervals 1-4 premix from Low Max this morning. Tomorrow will be a hike/joggle. I think I need to buy some new shoes. My right foot is starting to bother me. I'm also going to get a foam roller too.

Alisha

I got my run in last night. It rained but it was over by the time we went running. My sister found a Zombie run in October in your old neighborhood, Tricia - Albany. So we may do it. I guess it's a 5K and you have to pick up flags along the way and keep away from the zombies so they don't get your flags. There is also (I think) a 10.2K run that I want to do that day as well so I may do both. The Zombie run is in the afternoon.

Here is my crazy workout for tonight. I switched it around so I could do tire flips!!!

30 Squat Thrusts
30 Pull ups
30 Step ups (30 each leg)
30 Ball Slams
100 Rope Slams
30 Tire Flips
30 Push ups
30 Bicep Curls
30 Overhead Tricep Ext.
100 Crunches
30 Military Presses
30 Weighted Squats
30 Side Kicks (15 each side)
30 Squat Jumps
30 Halos (alternating sides)
30 Weighted Squats to a front Kick (alternating)

Tricia ~ You shouldn't worry about a rotation. You should do whatever you feel like doing (but no sitting on the couch reading :p), even for just 20 minutes. Get that kettlebell out and just do some swings, squats, lunges, whatever. No pressure.

I am not sure what that what powder is. Did you try to google it? I have something similar on my lemon tree. I have to find out what it is.

I would love to see a picture of your boat!

Alisha ~ You will LOVE the foam roller. It will be the best purchase you have ever made. I tell everyone about my foam roller. Sorry about your dad's truck but that is still cheaper than a new vehicle. LOL...I actually saw the movie Attack of the Killer Tomatoes :D.
