Hello all

In a few weeks we (husband, our 2 kids 17-20 y old) are going to the Cayman Islands for a vacation. We'll have a 3 br condo for a week. My kids want to invite 2 friends, (16-21 brother and sister). I know the kids, but their parents are going throu some really tough time with their marriage, and not so cooperative with us at all.
I think that we are taking a tremendous risk by taking the kids out of the country, for a long week, specially when the kids parents are just so not on board with us. I guess there is a lot of liability etc that we have to face. Can you get any consent form in a case like this? Anybody ever took guest kids for an out of country vacation?

It is really bothering me, I like theses kids a lot, but I feel that we are taking a huge risk with the tripp, specially with loony parents in the backround.
Any advice? Thanks,Mari

Personal opinion only: I think it is wonderful for you to offer to take these children with you for a nice vacation. My brother took two of mine when I went through a divorce and it was so great for the kids.

On one hand I would doubt there is any liability for the 21 yr old, after all that "child" is really an adult in all eyes. The 16 yr old could be a possible problem.

On the other hand, I am not sure that even though your intent is absolutely generous, doing something with ones children that is against what they would accept is not a good lesson for those children or yours.

I remember having the conversation with my DD who was always trying to help others. I wouldn't do anything against her friends' parents will because I thought it was setting a bad example for an adult to go against another.

As I said, just my opinion and again, I think you are wonderful for the offer. I cannot imagine letting my children go with someone who was being so generous, especially if the home front seemed to be at war.

Hope all works out for the best and they get to go with you.:7
