At home spinning workouts

I'm thinking about getting a spinning bike, does anyone have any recommendations for at home spinning workouts? I would love to have recommendations of workouts that have excellent music (top 40). Is there anything out there like this? I want my workout to be like at the gym. I think an audio workout that I can download to my ipod would be best.

I've heard of the "Spinervals" workout system, that might be downloadable; I don't know much about it but I'm sure if you googled it you could get some good information. Several people on this forum have discussed it.

Mindy Mylrea has several spinning DVDs on the market, some of which are marketed by Collage Video, others (the newest ones) are available on her website; I can't remember what her web address is but I'm sure she's google-able too.

I am about to order Spinervals Lean and Mean, I think it is. Their website has small clips of the workouts. Personally, I like the looks of these better than the Mindy ones, but that's just me. Mindy does have quite a few - the Spinervals just seem more raw and sweaty to me, and that is what I want. I do not have a spnning bike - lucky you!! I always go to the fitness stores and mess around on them, but I have the Cyclops Fluid trainer and love that, and the DVds are geared towards either type of bike.

If you want to download them on to your iPod, probably the closest workouts to a true spin class are the iCycles by iTrain.

Don't get me wrong, I ADORE Spinervals, but the music sucks at best (fortunately the later ones have a music off feature and you can play your own music) and they are really not like a spin class - they are interval and steady state work.

I have not used Mindy's yet, so I cannot tell you anything about her.

I honestly do not know the difference b/w a spin bike and the setup I have with my bike and the trainer. From what I can tell, they are similar but I have to get off to adjust tension. Would the iCycles work for me? And how are they different from Spinervals? Thanks!

I use a bike on a trainer for Spinervals, and iCycles too. I'm confused as to why you have to get off the bike the adjust the tension. I simply change gears and the tension changes.

I do use the gears to cycle through but didn't know how the DVDs/iCycles were set up. Do you set tension on the back tire at the beginning and use gears for the rest? I assume so and know it will all make sense when I do it for the first time. As is, I set the tire tension for as hard as I want in the highest gear and go down from there via the gears.

Ah okay, this makes sense now. You just set the tension at the beginning of the ride and shift gears from there. For Spinervals he tells you the gears to pick. Spinervals are pretty tough, so you may way to ease up the tension a little or go with a lower (easier) gearing ratio than Troy does for the first few workouts until you get used to it

I don't know of any spinning DVDs or mp3 workouts that have top 40 music, unfortunately. I adore Spinervals (DVDs), itrain and Cardio Coach (mp3s). I tried Mindy's workouts and honestly she talks way to much and I could only stand to do it once. If you are interested in her and have Netflix you can rent a couple of her cycling DVDs from there. You can also rent Cy-Yo which has spinning and yoga. These are the most like a real spinning class to me. My favorite Spinervals are Lean and Mean and Enter the Red Zone.
