Ok I did GS Chest and Tri's. I am on week 2 of the Leg Blast Rotation. I did great on the drop sets of Push ups. I went up to 10lbs and 12 lbs from last weeks 8lbs. I did the tricep dips and after that I could not get my arms up for nothing I had no band I tried substituting the tubing for the bandwork it was not effective in any area for me I ended up doing 3lbs for the crossovers for the triceps I was so disgusted with myself I pushed through the best I could but the entire time I was fuming mad that I upped my weight in the beginning to end up not feeling like I lived up to my workout. I got to the shower and I barely had enough strength to wash my hair my arms were literally shaking. Am I upper body wimpy? Someone help me out here will it take time to strenghthen my upperbody next week I am suppose to go heavy again will I be able to do it?

Sorry I'm feeling down right now I'll stop whining!

Beth...I know exactly how frustrating it seems but like Catherine mentioned we have good days and bad days. Just hang in there and keep doing what you can. I did GS CT on Wednesday and also increased my wts on everything until I got to the crossover tri ext and had to use 5lbs because I was just burnt out!! You don't want to end up injuring yourself by using more than you can handle.

Take Care :)

It took me a really long time to increase my weights for triceps. I have no idea why I was finally able to break the plateau, but finally it just clicked and my body was ready. Just keep at it steadily, and be careful. You do NOT want to drop a dumbell on your face when you're doing those crossovers. Don't worry. You'll get there.

I have the same problem with GS Chest and Tris. By the time we get to the overhead extensions for triceps I'm using a 12 POUND DUMBELL! I NEVER use 12 lbs for that exercise! (Just the other day I was using a 30lb dumbell for the same move--but NOT during GS C&T!) But, hey, I don't want to sacrifice my form. Next time I do this workout, I'll try again.

Stay positive! Think of how well you did with the heavier weights in the beginning--that's some GREAT progress you made. We're all too quick to look at the negatives. Focus on the strides you made during the first half of the workout when you upped your weights. It's hard to imagine that you can keep using heavy weights throughout that entire workout. By the end, I'm always using much lighter weights than when I started! :)

Beth:

Another thing to think about: you do not have to do the workouts as Cathe designs them, i.e. you can do GS chest, then eject the disk and slot in GS back and do back and biceps instead.

I always do these 3 muscle groups together because I can remain going heavy as there is not so much interference between the muscle groups.

Then I do shoulders and triceps on a different day.

When Cathe brings the STS out, I will do the same because for some strange reason she is putting chest and shoulders together, and there is a lot of interference between those two muscle groups.

Keep going with those tricep exercises. This is also my weakest upper body muscle group and it has taken me years to be able to push past 8 pound dumbells for kickbacks, for example. The best exercises to see progress in triceps are overhead extensions, tricep dips off bench or chair and skull-crushers/French press. For the latter, play around with the barbell too as usually I can go heavier with barbell on French press than I can with dumbells.

It is also to be expected that if you did better and went heavier than usual on chest, this will have a pre-fatiguing effect on the triceps and effects how you perform on those exercises, so don't be so hard on yourself. next time, reverse it: do triceps first, then chest, according to what matters the most to you.

Good luck,

Clare

Thanks you guys You really made me feel better. It is funny that you mentioned dropping the dumbell on your face I was thinking that when I had to lay down with the barbell you transition from chest to tricelps thumbless grip that is what was going through my head and I thought should I call my hubby to spot me but I couldn't get the words out of my mouth. Play it safe I will!
