Hello Runathon,
I finally made the Arepas using the recipe you gave on the polenta topic. I started a new topic so you could easily see that YES I made them and they came out really good. I ate too many though!!

Haaaaa! FINALLY!!!! Someone made the Arepas! :D :9 :D Yipppeeeee!

I really was looking forward to knowing how they came out. Watchout! They are addictive. The more you make them, the more you will add your style....:9

Ok, give it up.....HOW MANY did you eat?????:9

Well...
Your recipe called for 2C pre-cooked cornmeal 1C milk and 1Can creamed corn. I cut the recipe in half and I ate 1/2 of that!!!! (with cheese of course) :9
So I ate 1/4 of a recipe (in one sitting) which, yes was LOTS.

In retrospect, I should have flattened the patties out a little more and made the outside a little crisper (next time)

The following day I cut one in half so it was thinner and I toasted it and put strawberry preserves on it. That was also EXCELLENT. I did NOT over eat that day, but this little taste was my breakfast appetizer!

Try adding some sugar to the mix and definitely flatten them out to make them crisper. They are sooooo good! I prefer them thin and crispy with a bit of sugar sprinkled and then with a thins slice of mozzarella cheese on top of that itty bitty sugar....:9

They are soooo versatile....keep trying them out different ways. I believe it can be part of a healthy breakfast.

I tried the Arepas for breakfast this morning--and leftovers for a snack this afternoon. They are excellent!! I didn't exactly understand how to do the chocolate ones with cheese though. Could someone elaborate?? I think you're supposed to use hard chocolate, but is that baking chocolate or something like a Hershey's bar or what? Is that supposed to be part of the original mixture or put on after they are turned over? Are you still supposed to put in the sweet cream corn? Obviously, I'm a little Arepas challenged. Help!!

Hi there dsmiller! You are too funny: "arepa challenged!"

What I was saying about the chocolate was that you should make a hot chocolate "drink" to go along with your arepas. :9 ...instead of coffee. Just heat some evaporated milk with water (50/50) and add a square (per cup) of the unsweetened or sweetened hard chocolate, found in the baking section of your supermarket, boil the milk with the chocolate while stirring, add sugar to taste. Pour it into a cup, then add slices of mozzarella cheese and let it melt. You can then spoon the mozzarela out and eat it....it should be delightfully melted and stringy! Deeeeelicious! This hot chocolate drink goes really well with the Arepas.

Did you find them easy to make? :9

Yes, the arepas were easy to make and WAY too good. I ate about 1/2 on Saturday morning and 1/2 on Sunday morning with a partial one leftover for a snack. Guess I really missed the boat on the chocolate--told you I was arepas challenged. Never had hot chocolate with mozzarella before, but it sounds interesting. I save my experimenting for weekends when I have plenty of time, so next weekend will be more arepas and hot chocolate with cheese. Yum!! Thanks for the recipes!!!
