Are ab wrkouts 6-pack or long & lean?

I am not interested in 6-back abs. Instead, I prefer the long & lean pilates look. So I was wondering if Cathe's ab work is meant to get a 6-pack or get long and lean? ANd specifically, anyone know what Core Max is specifically targeted to do?

i think it depends on the person's repsonse to the workout. core max for me doesn't build a six pack but i still get nice defined abs, whereas someone else will get that hard 6 pack look.

although core max has some pilates ispired movments in it, its mostly traditional ab/back work esp. the stability and medicine ball segments. its still a good one.

6-pack abs are the result of a very clean diet, cardio, resistance training and genetics. Not everyone can build abdominal muscles like this.
Even at my leanest when I was competing, I never had the "pack". My abs were defined, but "longer" looking-no 6, or even four pack. I get very defined in my intercostals-the muscles that run above the obliques, which I really like, but sigh, I only see those in the am when I twist and flex!:7 Thats ok though, Cathe's core workouts are keeping my middle strong and supple, you will find a nice variety of exercises on Coremax.

Cathe's CoreMax is designed to strengthen the entire core, not just those front, surface muscles. She works the lower back, the obliques, and muscles deeper in the core.

She has three very good 20-minute segments, and I really like them all.

As for the six-pack look - tneah's right. You have to have very low body fat to actually see a six-pack.

6-pack is mostly genetics (after the clean eating and exercise components, of course). If you look at true six-pack owners, most of them are shorter folks, with shorter muscle bellies (at least among women). This look is very hard to achieve. The taller you are, the generally longer the muscle bellies, and the longer look you will have. Notice that Cathe and her team all have the 6-pack, and they are all under 5'6" (Rhonda - the tallest - doesn't have one). Then, look at for example, some of the female beach volleyball players - super-fit people (Gabby Reece and ? Walsh) they are quite tall, and have long, lean torsos - no six-pack. Some people are just not destined for that look, no matter how fit.

It may depend somewhat on your own anatomy and body type, but I think weighted ab work, done less frequently, tends to build more of a six-pack (the 'bulgy' looking abs that some Oxygen cover models have), while pilates-type workouts and unweighted work with higher reps and done more frequently tends to get the leaner look. Of course, both depend on diet and reduction of fat for either look to show.
